There was an effort to get a combined ticket of the Rev Jesse Jackson and the Rev Pat Robertson as the ticket for the national election. But the super delegates ALL rejected the idea even though polls showed that ticket would compete well against Ronald Regan in the general election. So the final pick was Michael Dukakis who only carried his home state of Massachusetts in the general election. Jesse Jackson had campaigned on the theme of being a good shepherd for the country and Pat Robertson had a great understanding of the working of the national economy. Jesse Jackson told me privately that he was fearful for the country going forward because the plea for racial unity and cooperation was being ignored. Our country was not willing to heal the racial divisions when the chance was there. Now we are reaping the results of a disastrous choice. I hope it isn't too late to get things back on track!

I prayed a lot for him and felt the assurance that someday he would fill a special role in God's kingdom. Eventually this man repented and went into the Catholic priesthood! Fr. Calaway serves as a spiritual advisor for seminarians in St Louis. Amazing story about God's hand in all things and His ability to bring beauty out of the ashes.
