    Bless you for speaking clearly in a pleasant, not overly loud voice and saying exactly what needs to be said without a lot of extraneous chatter. I could listen to you all day.

    What is this female presenting thing? I am really confused, is this a sewing term? I've never heard that before.

      Hi Dotty! Great question. Feminine/Masculine presenting is not sewing terminology but rather terminology related to gender expression.
      One big part of our educational mission here at B&T is to be sure that we are presenting ideas and research based on the very best/most current academic perspectives. This includes using the most current/specific terminology. We do this because we feel that precision in language is important. For instance, in this video we assert that the t-shaped garment is a wrapping gown (that could also be known by a few other names) but is not a banyan, and we do this because we are aiming to use the words that are best suited and supported by the most current thinking and evidence.
      The switch from using "men/women" to "masculine/feminine presenting" is rooted in this part of our mission, as well. (If you're looking to learn more there are many helpful glossaries for terminology, but here are just a couple: www.swarthmore.edu/lgbtq/terminology , studentaffairs.psu.edu/csgd/explore-lgbtq-resources/identity-based/gender-terms)
      There are very well documented cases of folks who are intersex/non gender conforming throughout history (we suggest reading up on Chevalier d'Eon and Thomas/ine Hall for early accounts, but also folks like Sarah Edmonds/Franmk Thompson in the mid-19th century). This means that saying strictly men and/or women would be omitting those individuals who had complex relationships with gender/sex and their outward expressions. By using terms like "masculine presenting" and "feminine presenting" when discussing these garments to address who is wearing them we are using the most specific terminology possible to be inclusive to the folks whom we now know did not conform to the assumed genetic binary of man/woman.
      We hope this helps clear things up for you and enjoy working on your wrapping gown!

    Hi, B&T. Thank you for doing this. I've missed the online classes. A question. I'm just about to buy the full sized pattern. Where do we get the mimi-me sized pattern or do we draft our own? Thanks again.

    I would love to buy the pattern. But I am hesitant as I want my wrapping gown to be quite theatrical and therefore a bit longer. Can I just add length at the bottom of the pattern or would that not work, would I have to further alter the pattern to achieve that Alan Rickman in Mesmer kind of look?

      Yes, adding length to the pattern would not be a problem. You may want to alter the angle but in looking at an image of Alan Rickman, is gown appears just lengthened

    Is this wrapping gown the same as a bed gown - only made with a longer length?

    • @BurnleyandTrowbridge
      @BurnleyandTrowbridge  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually no. It is constructed differently from a bedgown although you might notice some similarities in appearance.

      Hey Jessica! Yes, it is! Our first upload had missed a segment on historical context and culture that we wanted to make sure made it in the final cut so we went ahead and reuploaded with the missing couple of minutes.
