Can it be used as a current reference for the uCurrent?
A look at the stability with temperature and time, and absolute calibration of the unit.

before they're called advantest, they used Takeda Riken and some models continue become early models of advantest products; hence some early advantest products do bear model name beginning with "TR"; they changed it on later advantest products.
Thanks for the video Dave! I'd be really happy to see a teardown and a block diagram. I'm curious as to the method used to digitally select output with such consistency. I'm sure it's quite elementary to most but it's a weak spot for me trying to imagine the whole system.

I have an even older 1987 Wavetek Data Multimeter Model 52 that on the diode test function has 5 selectable current sources 1mA 100uA 10uA 1uA and 100nA.
I just love this Wavetek bench top multimeter is a 32k count with a lot of futures is better than most modern multimeter and only uses 500mW that is an important fact since I live offgrid.
A few quick notes while I'm watching the video - Advantest don't make bench test gear any more, their current product line is all ATE testing. A company called ADCMT took over the benchtop/handheld T&M line, but the tech support has taken a complete nose-dive since the Advantest days.
Yokogawa do a couple of units similar to the R6142 too -- the 7651 is the "old dog", they tend to suffer from worn (bouncy!) buttons when they age. The GS200 is the current replacement for it. They're pretty obscure bits of kit, I'd never seen one until I started at my current employer.

Dave, could you possibly make a tutorial on taking a ATX power supply and make it variable or a good bench power supply? I seen a guy do it by just soldering some wires to a pot and got 1-17v of variable voltage. These ATX psu's are are everywhere and would be great to make a vid on. I want one to at least have 13-14v of output
I agree, it'd be nice to see an atx conversation introduction, maybe based on lm317, actually, if you grap the datasheet for that and scroll to the example circuits, they provide you with exactly that.
Not recommended!!! Buy a cheapo $50 bench Supply with Current Limiting.
These things can put out many many amps, so short a rail on your DUT and BANG! If 5As makes a big pop and spark, imagine what 60A will do?
If you must do it, put in a 1A Polyfuse, and a big 5A slow-blow in series...
As for voltage, most of these are Flyback converters, so changing the Feedback Voltage (look up the datasheet of the main converter for the FB/Adj Pin. There will be a potdown going from the output to ground, so put a pot in series with the top resistor going from the output to the pin) will change all of the output voltages. Wouldn't recommend it, though. Post on the EEVBlog forum for more info.
Not to mention the voltage ripple on them is massive as the CPU etc normally have their own tight-tolerance Regulators.
DusteDs Stuff Many tutorials for that online includes shorting a specific pin to ground. There are many cases of ATX PSU's gone bad because they are not built for this.

Dave could spend an hour talking just about the caps in a TV. So trust me, this is a short video considering the topic he's covering. Myself, and I suspect many others, watch Daves videos because they're fun and interesting. Not just to absorb raw facts. Half the time I don't even know what he's talking about but I still enjoy following his channel!
