Thanks Johnny! Kasey has literally lived the life of an artist, touring and growing up with her family' band, (btw Dad on the slide guitar here). She has faced her share of prejudice and triumphed, now an Australian national treasure. You can bet that she "gets it" when reciting Em's lyrics. Kasey deserves accolades and I love to see new people discover her performances. For some of her own music I like to suggest "Ain't no little girl" (Bluegrass Underground live).
Super reaction to this absolutely brilliant rebirth, not a cover to me. Had the absolute honour of seeing her perform this live, I will never ever forget it - phenomenal arrangement & performance from all, on all levels ❤
This song resonates with Kasey as she was raised on the road in the Australian outback as a child. Her father, who’s playing the slide guitar, was a contracted rabbit shooter. The family formed a travelling band when Kasey was a teenager. Kasey struggled for recognition by the music establishment, outlined in one of her epic early songs, Ain’t I not Pretty Enough. Kasey was always popular with her audience but fought her way to becoming an Australian icon. Glad you and your audience got to experience her awesome talent. Hi from Australia! 👋🏻👋🏻🦘🦘
Her family band was called the Dead Ringer band and consisted of her parents, Kasey and her brother Nat. It was formed in the early ‘90’s. After that Kasey went solo.
Those full body goosebumps you got... I've listened to this version multiple times a week for over a year, and it still happens every time. This is a masterpiece of writing, and performance.
Thanks for this one Johnny. Had stumbled on this cover couple years ago and was blown away by Kasey, county/bluegrass artist from Australia. Listened to it over and over, started suggesting it to as many reactors as I could, quite a few did react to it and were blown away. Haven't listened in a while so thank you for that. The audio of this show was professionally recorded but they did not have any video. The band reached out to the folks in attendance for Phone video of the show and many fans sent them videos which they compiled and edited into what you see here.....pretty incredible to say the least. Easily the best cover of Em's song ever done. Cheers, stay well.
I love what she has done; making the song her own. Listen to it so many times now.... Every word she sings hits me right in my feels. Every single time! Thank you for reacting to her and the band. 💚✌
The last time I heard a song that was a cover but sounded like it should have been the original was Jonny Cash's cover of NIN - Hurt This is truly beautiful, haunting and truthful..... We can now understand why Marshal gave his blessing 🥰
That long, winding story from @7:27 about Twenty One Pilots... Kasey went through it. Wrote "(Am I) Not Pretty Enough" about the music industry not playing her on commercial radio. Then check out the goddess she became when she released "Ain't No Little Girl" (Official Video, AND/OR Bluegrass Underground)
Our Kasey shreds the banjo like no other. I’m a welded on fan for decades… that little crack in her voice enslaved me on first hearing. Her ability to tell the story with full emotion is unsurpassed.
Oh man, you should see her on a steel guitar 🤯 Years ago a friend showed me a vid she took at a studio session. it was about 10 minutes of Bill (her dad) and Kasey just having fun, dueling lap steels, and it was mind blowing.
And so it goes. And such is life. You're passionate and we (I, they, people) get it. Try not to be so pissed off that it takes society at large SO LONG to see what you see. Each in their own time. This is a GREAT cover and a really good reaction. Peace.
Kasey is currently touring in Australia. She also has an awesome biography out called Just Don't Be A Dickhead. It's laugh out loud funny and authentic ✌️
Thanks for reacting to this one. It’s one of those covers to me like when Johnny cash did hurt - it has a life and meaning all its own, doesn’t take away from the original but is distinct in hope it hits you.
Kasey's always been an Em fan, and while she is a country artist, she often switches lanes. During lockdown she crafted this arrangement, not to take anything from Em, but to highlight his lyrics as emotional and poetic as they are, it's an homage. She has lived through it herself, hence the feeling. As soon as she started performing again, she pulled this out as an encore. They ended up asking the audience to send in any footage they had taken, that's the video. Em, or at least his people, saw it and told her to go ahead and put it on Spotify. The rest is reaction channel history, lol. ✌❤
Odd lag related skips notwithstanding I'm glad you reacted :) I love the keyboard player in the background living his best life, and the fact that you could hear a pin drop from the crowd through most of it - especially considering it was an encore to the show :)
Right! I cleaned up the lag as best as I could 😂 I got my ethernet cable plugged back in for tonight's livestream. That was my issue last time! I forgot I had moved it to my other computer! 🙏💜🧸
She always wanted to cover this song as she’s a huge Eminem fan, and it took the Pandemic in 2020 for her to finally have enough time. The result? A masterpiece. Em has given his seal as he’s allowed this cover to go up on streaming platforms and for Kasey to get that money. Everyone wins, especially music, and the fans.
Great reaction yet again mate! Kasey’s really something, ain’t she?! Apparently during covid she nutted out this cover and convinced the band to get on board with it. It really feels like she KNOWS what the song is about, I get goosebumps big time from this one! As someone already mentioned, that’s her dad, Bill on slide guitar. I play with a guy who used to tour with her and Bill’s band, he actually went out with her for a while back in the day. I was lucky enough to be invited up for a few songs with Bill’s band at the Tamworth county music festival a couple of years ago, bloody good fun!!! Hope you’re doing well mate, I haven’t been on YT very much recently, look forward to checking out more of what you’ve been posting! And hey, when are you coming downunder for a visit? We’ll introduce you to some cracking bands, barbies, backroads, beers and bundies -you’ll have a bloody ball mate!!
Kasey is so versatile, She wrote a song called Am I Not Pretty Enough when no one would play her songs on the radio. and she struggled to get recognition. So she really gets Eminem's song. Check out her singing "Ain't No Little Girl", totally different style (I like her official video of it). It's her coming of age song.
The part that I loved was when the band dropped, she started thrashing that banjo like it owed her money So GOOD, I was grinning like an idiot😊😊😊😊😊😊 And I'm pretty sure I saw you do the same mate.😮
If you want to see another Australian Artist that make a Beatles song his own by singing it in the time signature that John Lennon wrote in, The manager had them speed help up for the Movie. P.S. His vocals will blow your mind LOL
You were right about liking the Eminem version of the song but not understanding the song - i was one of those people. It wasn't til listening to this version and actually hearing the lyrics that i understood the song better
we hear a lot about m' m's reaction of caseys cover from people that are not m, but not heard it by him. it doesn't matter what m thinks about it anyway, as i have the abillity to decide what 'I' like myself. And i love it.
Kasey Chambers is an accomplished Australian country singer-songwriter, who has won multiple awards and accolades for her 12 studio albums and her singles releases; she is the youngest Australian female artist to be inducted into the ARIA(Australian Recording Industry Association) Hall of Fame. Kasey is a huge Eminem fan, and she took the opportunity during the lockdown for Covid she reworked Eminem's rap song into her own song; such was the difference between the original and her version, that she was given permission to upload this performance to Spotify in it's own right.
If you want to see another Australian Artist who did an amazing cover. Taking a classic Beatles song Help and totally transformed it into a whole new song whilst still keeping the essance of the song alive Check out John Farnham singing Help - live with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. It's from around 1990 and it's one cover that most people agree is actually better than the original. Some background on the artist. John Farnham is an icon of the Australian music industry with 6 decades of number one hit albums and songs. Hes been a teenage pop idol in the 60"s and 70's. Lead singer of the Little River Band during the 80's a rock star of the 80's and 90's a crooner of the 00's 10's with a little bit of country musical theatre, R&B, lots of Soul, thrown in from time to time. He has a "Huge" following of fans spanning generations from Australia and also Europe. I guarantee, if you react to this song the aussies will turn out in force to watch it. 😂
Hells YES!! Best recommendation ever! I can never get enough of reactors reacting to John's version of 'Help'! Those reactions are right up there with reactors reacting to Queen Kasey pwning Eminem, AND reactors reacting to Matt Corby doing his song Brother, live in the Triple J radio studio. And if you want to walk on the mainstream side a bit, just about any live performance by Guy Sebastian will also blow minds.
There's no evidence that Eminem has seen this. "They" say he allowed her to put it on Spotify etc. but he doesn't own the rights to the song, he sold them years ago, so that's also not true.

She made it her own and the way the absolutely shreds that banjo ❤️

Watched her play this last night, @ the Opera House in Sydney, Australia.

@adamposadas4163 that is awesome! Glad you had a good time at the show 🤘🧸
