The Gelfling have been around since the dawn of time, existing in peaceful, primitive gatherings until the urSkeks arrived on Thra. Their history is riddled with important events and deep mythology. After knowing the Skeksis split the clans, that moment between Brea, Rian, Deet, Gurjin/Kaia, + Kylan seems so much more impactful because 5 different clans probably hadn't come together like that in hundreds of trine. I feel like Sifa ended up with the least representation in the show + I hope they bring some characters to the table in s2.
It’s also believed that the gelflings made the clans themselves
I was 13 when I first watched the movie and was in love. Now, finally there is more of this beautiful world and I feel like a child again. Until the second season comes out I'll stay here and dreamfast with you.

I like to think that at the end of the movie, when the urSkeks gave the light of the crystal back to the remaining gelfling, that the absorbed souls of the gelflings were returned back to Thra and the species came back over time, because they were absorbed into the crystal.
I also like to think that more than just Jen and Kira survived the Garthim wars, maybe 100 at most, but more than those two, due to statistics and pure hope and because it’s depressing if only two lived and the souls of the others weren’t returned back to the planets
What I really want to know, especially now I'm reading the sequel comics, is how the Gelfling 're-emerged', as the wiki page describes it. Basically, how did the Gelfling repopulate Thra?

There would have been other communities of survivors hidden far from the Castle. That, or they set up a foreign exchange program with the titular characters from Elfquest.
Honestly, if "Age of Resistance" is a prequel, we already know the gelflings will eventuay fail and all die at the end anyways. And i find that deppressing in foresight.
Unless something happens that splits the show off into an alternate timeline.
Or reveals that maybe other Gelfling survived? Hiding somewhere undisclosed to either Skeksis or Uru?
True, but its always nice to see how the actual story played out, and they're giving this amazing universe on-screen life again. I'll take anything they have.
@@iona2225 Due to their civilization levels (approx early iron age) and population size - likely yes. Anyway, skeksis even with garthim are to few to kill off the entire race in few decades. My bet is on some sifan, or maybe dousan stragglers - everyone else are wiped out for sure.
@@vladcrow4225 I'm a new convert to the dark crystal mythos (gave the show a watch and got SUPER into it, such a refreshing show, watched the 1980s dark crystal movie for the first time just yesterday!) so forgive any ignorance and newbishness on my part but it does seem to me really unlikely as well that every gelfling got wiped out. In this vid it is said gelflings colonized far and wide, even with the crystal bats and those beetle soldier thingies, I just can't see how they could have hunted down EVERY gelfling save 2 on the whole of Thra. Considering how kira survived (being hidden in a tree), there's room for other stragglers, besides the sifan or dousan, the grottan who live underground should be especially hard for the skeksis to completely eradicate. I'm willing to believe the vaprans and stonewood clans are 100% gone since they were closest to the skeksis center of power but all the other clans have decent survival odds.
Also the mystics didn't know about Kira, so they clearly ain't omniscient and even the narrator of the 1980s film says ONE gelfling survived but we then have 2, so that isn't 100% accurate information either. Overall I just don't see the proof the gelfling have been completely wiped out, the only sources saying that (to my knowledge) were proven to be wrong.

I'd love it if you'd do a video that details the Gruenaks and the Arathim. Were both races driven to extinction, or were they just driven to near-extinction? Is there even any material on them outside of the confines of the series?
This would be great. On a side note... I'm going to the Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance exhibition at the Museum of The Moving Picture this December with family and I noticed already that some people who had been there were finding information not provided elsewhere. For example, the little fuzzball with a beak inside SkekTek's lab has a name! ^_^ And the exhibition DOES have the Gruenaks on display, so maybe there will be something more to learn. If there is, I will find a way to let people know! :)
Good request. I'm 90% sure that whatever Gruenaks were left in AoR were rounded up and butchered up to combine with the bodies of captured arathim... until they were wiped out leaving a select number of Garthim soldiers. I assumed whatever Arathim were left behind were overpowered and killed off by the much stronger and bigger Garthim.

Is anyone else who saw the Original movie steady tryna figure out who Jen & Kira's parents are out of all the Gelfling characters in the new Netflix series? I'm convinced Rian is 100% Jen's father but I cannot figure out if Deet or Brea ends up being his mother. Poor Deet is burdened with the Darkening so the last episode of the season kinda made me lean toward counting her out but we never know... Kira's parents, at least 1 of them is obviously another Vapran, due to her hair & skin. I hope eventually in one of the next seasons(fingers crossed) we get somewhat of a clue to who become the parents of the last two members of the Gelfling race.

Perhaps the farmer couples with the pendant could be Kira’s parents, so far they’re the only Vapra couples.
They could just be survivors of their clan! Strong chance rian is Jenson father yes but rian may have just gon on to have a child with another stone wood/ the other dark haired clan.
You should make video on love life and relationships Gelflings have with each other.
We can’t blame Gyr too much for his sad Ursecks song, as it only reminded the “dark one” that first sang it of his grief and pain. It was Raunip who continued to taunt the dark one at the last moment when the Urseck tried to focus and cast his negative emotions aside, so that as the light from the crystal pierced the Ursecks, the dark one’s rage and grief was renewed and created the unbalance.
Raunip carried guilt over that for a long while, before trying to make up for the harm he did by leading the miners to safety at a great lava field, at a great personal loss.
Prepare for Season 2?? You know something we don't?
I like to think i do haha. But seriously, you think they would really introduce 7 new clans, tease everyone with this show, and thats it? No way. I say at least 2 more seasons are coming.

We all know where it ends; the movie has laid the path, so we're seeing the beginning of the end of their race basically.
Yea its kinda depressing to know that the series won't actually end well and most of the gelflings will probanly die off, onscreen or offscreen between the series and film.

All this would have been solved had they killed or wounded the urgoh! What happens to them, happens to the skeskis right?
1. The Gelfling kill in self-defence but are too gentle to kill another being in this way.
2. The Ur-Ru may be 'good' but they also passively want to reunite with the Skeksis, so they will not harm themselves if it jeopardises the UrSkeks' reunification.

if there are only two left in dark crystal how are there so many of them in the comics after the movie?
From my understanding, a lot of time has passed since the events of the movie. Also, there are a few theories about more Gelfling having survived the wars.

@@DreamfastwithMe you need at least 200 people to create a viable genetic pool to have no side issues later on.
and even with those 200 you have to enact a breeding program to get the most varied you can.
with 500 you can have normal relationships with no "forced" mating couples.
with 5,000 you don't need a breeding program at all.
it's hard to judge how many of them there are in the netflix show you see them pretty populated and it's implied there are a good number of them spread out.
in the comics it appears they have clustered together to more or less rebuild the clans to a point which would help allot with a light handed breeding program of the likes that were common among humans in times of old where a man/woman was encouraged to find a mate outside of there village
@@jamesfranxx6151 somehow I don't think the usual rules of genetics/incest work on Thra. I mean the Urskeks couldn't reproduce, and Aughra produced a son without a mate.

Age of Resistance can’t line up to the movie because in the movie the Gelfling had been nearly exterminated by the garthims and in age of resistance the gnurlocs are extinct so the Skeksis can’t create enough garthims.
I think SkekTek will use other creatures to build the garthim. The one you see in the series also has blue eyes, while in the movie they have purple eyes.

Eran vanRijn yeah, I was wondering how they were going to make more if the Gruenaks were nearly extinct in the movie. I assumed that there were secretly more of them and that the eyes were purple because of the darkening.
Vilhelm Landerman Nurlocs (sp?) were the large caterpillar like creatures in Grot

I actually didn't say vaper haha, i said "Vaypra." There is some debate to the pronunciation in our language, because it has the "ae" symbol. But going by the show, yes, its "Vapra."
