When I was 14 and My sister was 17 (3 years ago) we played Jo and Beth in Little Women (I was Beth, she was Jo) 4 months ago I found out that I have Leukemia and It's not likely that I will survive. This song gives me so much strength, and lets me know that it's okay If I leave. Some things are just meant to be :) I hope that If I go my sister will be okay. This Musical, and especially this song will always hold a special place in my heart, and really makes me think of how much everyone has done for me. Although my time is running short, there are so many more things that I want to do. Please, appreciate what you have, because you never know when You'll lose it.
Dawn, you are strong and full of god. A old family friend had leukemia. Lucky she survived and I wish the same for you. If you read this and are cancer free:thank the lord almighty. But if your still sick: I’ll pray for you. But if the worst has happened and you don’t get to read this and this is a family member reading this: your love helped her get that far your love gods love and our prayers. She is in a better place. In the song it talks about flying though the air, well now she is running and flying with angels. God bless
We just closed this musical at my high school, and I played Beth and this song just means to much to me. I’ve been going through a lot of anxiety and depression lately, and getting to play Beth and doing this show just gave me so much happiness and hope! I will forever cry and miss this show when I hear this song! I love it with all of my heart!! ❤️
No matter how many times I watch this video, I will never be able to make it past "All my life, I've lived for loving you... let me go now." I get to the final chorus and I'm doing great, but then that part... ugh.
This video’s old, and we all have lost someone important, whether we have ever met them or not. My mom passed away very suddenly when she was seemingly healthy but actually had an inflamed pancreas, eight years ago. I’ve always longed for a goodbye like this, so I’d have already known she left in peace and left with no more pain. No matter what you went through, guys, your deceased family member will always be your Beth, soaring on a kite and never landing, in your heart. They’re always watching you.
This is the best version - the acting is superb and appropriate, particularly Jo's face crumpling in realisation but then recovering quickly to offer comfort to her sister. Just outstanding.
my voice teacher is having me sing this song, I've never seen the musical or listened to any of the other songs from it so i watched this just to see and i am literally crying
My voice coach assigned me Beth as a character and "Some things are meant to be" as my song and I'm absolutely sobbing rn, this will be an EMOTIONAL performance
I’m so sorry about Maria. She’ll always be with you flying on a kite and you guys will never land. She’s in a huge piece of your heart. I cry during this scene because my mom suddenly passed away eight years back and I’ve always imagined a goodbye like this, Beth representing my Marmee
+SweetBalulalow Actually no, the script doesn't ever state when Beth dies. In the story she didn't die from scarlet fever, although her health was drastically damaged because of it. The script leaves the end of this scene up to the Director's discretion. I'm directing this show at our theater and personally I think it'd be a bit too morbid and shocking for her to die so suddenly after such a moving scene (other directors may differ on this point, which is the great thing about theatre).
+SweetBalulalow the structure of the play isn't always literal - there is a lot of suggestion going on. we know what happens without needing to see it.

I will pray for you Dawn. God is always with you, never forget that! You will be in my prayers. Stay strong my friend.
You are such an amazing person, I can tell from the heart put into this comment. I hope you are still alive today
Dawn Rivers I'm praying for you and your family. I hope your okay!

I don't know why I keep watching this video. I know exactly what happens, and I cry every time.
"Let me go now."
NO. STOP IT.
Yes: And, the reaction of her sister at that moment (Jo, right): So priceless. Lovely performance, seen even in profile. Lovely.
When I was in a production of Little Women, jo and Beth were played by two real life sisters and they would sob on stage every night
i can believe it. it’s such a powerful piece!!
edit: hell - my son played laurie a few years ago and we cried tonight listening to this!
That’s beautiful. 🩷🩷
I come here when I need a good cry. It's never once failed to make me shed a tear (or buckets of tears... which is actually more accurate)
yeah - my son played laurie at the school where i worked. i was there for every performance and never failed to cry during this! 😫
Seriously every time I listen to this song I sob.

I don’t think Beth wanted to share that spool at 1:30
They are fantastic!! One of the best renditions I’ve seen of this song. Brava!
This was one of the Best Broadway Musicals I ever saw next to The Secret Garden.
