- Scout is one of my favorite class in Deep Rock Galactic, especially in season 4. However, I've always used the weapons and builds for the M1000 Classic and DRAK Plasma Carbine, built when I revisited the GK2 Assault Rifle, I was hooked. This gun is super cool and are a masterclass in creativity and gameplay.
This is the most fun, funniest and most creative Deep Rock Galactic weapon, and in my opinion, one of the best. You can make single target builds, speeding chaining builds, and it has so much depth in not only its upgrades, but its overclocks and armor stripping as well. This video has everything you'd want as a person wanting to learn about weapons in Deep Rock Galactic, with funny moments scattered throughout the video.
Seeing as DRG season 4 just released, and every video about DRG weapon ratings are taken. I decided to give you a rundown on the scout's most underrated gun.

dont diss overclocked firing mechanism, speccing into as much recoil and firerate as you can get is an absolute joy
Same for bullets of mercy, yeah it can feel awkward to use sometimes but scout is pretty much as good at applying status effects as driller. The 50% damage bonus applies to most status effects including STUN

Enjoyed this a lot, especially your approach as "most underrated". Really liked your upgrade tier run thru, and had to laugh at your overclock takes. That was fun.
Much like the Deepcore PGL, the GK2 is a solid weapon outshone by others, but makes up for it with its overclocks. Its fire rate can in fact surpass that of the DRAK (or be outpaced by the M1000 of all things, with the right builds on both, just for the hell of it). Its damage is incredible with AI Stability Engine, which completely removes all inaccuracy and makes it deal insane weakpoint damage, resulting in a solid and endlessly reliable weapon that deals high damage for low ammo consumption with no handling issues whatsoever. It's the most reliable of the three, with the DRAK suffering with accuracy and ammo capacity, and the M1000 suffering with sustained damage unless you're _very_ good with it and run the reload speed on kill upgrade without missing a shot. As GSG has stated, every weapon and upgrade is meant to be viable. Nothing is just useless, particularly if you're willing to experiment and try out new things, or old ones, as it were.
Haven't watched yet but the GK2 is based and fun to shoot esp with AI Stability Engine. M1000 is better overall imo but the GK2 is way more fun
I dont understand why you keep complaining about the spread, its literally better than the drak, without any upgrades. You can beam enemies from across the map, it has practially zero recoil. Sure it has some spread but if you want to hit a 300 m shot then just dont? Its not like you will be hitting it with the drak either.
This has been my ole reliable with AI stability engine for a long time now, the M1000 had it's time with me and so did the DRAK, but end of the day I always come back to the ole GK2 cause there's never a situation it lets me down in. Honestly with the addition of the crossbow as an alternative for heavy single target damage and element utility the GK2 has more of a relevant place than ever now imo.

It's pretty crazy, and you can cancel the reloads aswell.
I love the “Daka-Daka-Daka” of it. Simple and reliable. My favourite Scout primary.
I respect any scout willing to enter a hand-to-hand fight with a Bet-C and come out on top!
here are my thoughts on the subject.
1. AOE for the drak is only 1 meter, which is terrible unless the horde is all clumped together, such as in tunnel entrances or with pheromones.
2. the reason why the drak is largely a better horde gun is due to point deflection, aggressive venting, the ROF boost from tier 5, and the splash (only one meter radius). the tier 5 ROF mod is supposed to give up to 5 ROF, but the karl website says it is capped at 20 ROF. outside of these four things, the drak is quite weaker than the GK2.
3. the Tier 1 selection for the gk2 is not bad, or weak. it varies between overclcocks that are being picked for it. bullets of mercy has a massive nerf to the standard 40 round mag, only being 24. because it is a status effect based OC, the additional reduction in reload (which is 1.8 seconds normally) helps speed up reload while the status effect is still relevant. the accuracy mod is of course good for managing ROF based builds, such as overclocked firing mechanism, which has crazy recoil, so building for stability is an option, while the extra ROF point on an all ROF build can deliver up to 14 ROF in total, which is just 2 ROF lower than the draks higher setting, but delivering up to 19 dmg per round doing so.
4. on the bullets of mercy subject, i have no problems with using it solo, as every status effect including pheromones triggers the effect. i use cryominelets more though, because they can be used with the weaker dmg of the zhukovs itself, unlike the cryo arrows, which are only good against the one glyphid it hits. also, you do have the electric bolts from the crossbow as well.
5. the M1000 is good, however, ammo and the need to use super blowthrough to make up for ROF limitations, hurt it for basic horde missions. it is great for dreadnaught missions though.

GK2 has a different feel to it compared to the drak, the sound is just way too good
I fix the jack of all trades issue by upping the bullet output as much as is physically possible. I don't really care if it's that statistically effective, mag dumping is fun
I always use the gk2. I prefer it over both the other guns
wow I've been using the gk2 this whole time cuz I liked it and I didn't bother to learn the other guns, but this video has convinced me to try the other guns

I love the GK2 so much, the gun kinda feels like I'm playing CSGO or Black ops 2, I love it, the only scout gun I use (that's a lie)
It actually does feel like I’m tap firing with a M4A4 from CSGO if I’m using the tap fire mod without the recoil dampener.
I honestly just feel so bad*** playing with it in DRG.
Hi, scout main of 900 missions here. I tried the other 2 primaries, and I kinda liked them, but m1000 had too little ammo for its power, and drak had just wouldn't output enough damage for my tastes.
So rather than settling for a hipster build, what I did was build the GK2 for DPS, with armor breaking, NO battle frenzy, NO A.I., just raw DPS, and it absolutely SHREDS. It gobbles ammo, but gobbles bugs just as fast, something I can't say for either other gun. Slap on a rate-of-fire overclock and you're set. Shreds praet plating in under half a clip, kills a praet outright in a clip and change. I'll share my exact build in a bit here, but I've genuinely taken this gun up through haz 5 and been able to kill fast enough to keep up and beg for more. It's a MONSTER waiting to be unleashed, but so many sleep on it for flashy plasma or cool snipes.
I love the scout assault rifle. On my way to 4th promotion as scout and i still use it tons. I guess I just love the idea of 'standard solider' types(clone troopers, M4 wielding marines.. that kinda thing) enough to keep me using it 😂
The issue with battle frenzy is that its completly outshined by the drak and grapple speedmovement upgrades.
I favor electrifying reload as it meshes so well with hit-and-run tactics.

The funny thing for me is that i really ignored the m1000 after a bit of using it i used to use alot but i forgot about it after awhile and i used the gk2 ALOT more than i should have so i have always appreciated the gun especially after the 2nd overclock i ever got was ai stab engine also i just dont use the drak in my opinion its just not that good

The gk2 had always been my favorite weapon, especially with ai stability engine, which was actually the first overclock I got for it. It was also one of, if not the first overclock I ever got for any weapon. Actually, I think double barrel was my first overclock, supercooling chamber was my second, and ai stability engine was my third. I never really liked the m1000, mostly because I want be phast, and also because my aim sucks
I actually use the gk2 in my movement+ scout loudout, ai stability engine with battle frenzy and of course, special powder boomstick.
The gk2's strength i think is just that: its versatility. If you just use your secondary for movement 99% of the time, like with special powder, you need a main weapon thats decent against both swarms and single targets.
It doesnt need to excel at either of these because its essentially picking up the slack of your weapon-turned-movement-tool by being able to do it at all.
The only time i really use anything else is if i am going on a specific mission type like elimination or salvage, or in biomes where special powder wont be useful.

I like the gun, but i haven't got any overclocks for it yet other that the bullets of mercy, which i currently dislike quite a lot.
Using bullets of mercy ovc and slowing grenades is a deadly combo for dreds
Battle frenzy upgrade makes me feel like a fucking space marine, GODDAMN!
I dropped it for a while until I got my first overclock for it - AI Stability Engine. It feels so good now, I use it all the time.
In terms of killing power Scout to me always lacked solo compared to the other classes. Until the last update. Shield battery booster and double barrel with pheromone grenades. 1 second delay shields for survivability. Endless drak ammo with swarm stomping power from double barrel and pheromones.
Scout was my least favorite class until I came up with this build. The only downside is the drak overheating. In boomstick I took 1 in tier5. Swap to boom stick when I’m about to overheat. Fire off a round then swap back. Fluid on dreadnaughts and hectic swarms. Making it a good bring to any game mode build for scout.

After 1200+ missions with 317 of them on Scout, I never really felt like the GK2 was bad compared to the other two weapons. All 3 weapons have their merits and weak points and the scout's 3 primaries are by far the least polar.
7:24 Hmm, if only there was an overclock that could give you big mobility while you have the boomstick. Imagine if you could zip across the cave without waiting on the grappling hooks recharge. It's not like something like that exis- Oh wait!

Bullets of mercy has other effects going for it (it's my go-to solo weapon)
1 - Screw battle frenzy, embrace a 50% stun chance (which counts towards bullets of mercy)
2 - The boltshark (fire bolt + electric bolts)
weaknesses: the caretaker
(also works really well with neurotoxin payload gunners)
Cryo minelets is also pretty nice in this case
between when i left that comment and now i have switched to using cryo minelets in that loadout
I am new DRG player and i think hitting headshots with GK2 is the best...

I used the drax once, I’m a scout main and I’ve used it once because it felt like shit to use. Long times to kill, too much ammo consumption per target, and not enough single target damage for scout is really shit, plus add a weapon that feels really bad to use, not rewarding and underwhelming. And boom I love the GK2, to me it’s a straight upgrade. Especially with overclocked feed mechanism and battle frenzy. I cannot see how people stand the drax.
The GK2 with max firing speed is hella fun.
I use ofm with all firerate upgrades because you can never have too much firerate

The GK2 definitely needs a buff of some sort. Although its decent its still weaker than both the m1000 and the drak even once you have overclocks for them. It can do pretty good single target with bullets of mercy or AISE but is still outclassed by the m1000 with supercooling chamber and maybe hipster. This may be due to a lack of blow through upgrade but it has essentially no swarm clear builds outside of electrifying reload, which is in my opinion still not great. Basically what you're left with are a bunch of overclocks that make the GK2 just a better assault rifle with varying degrees of success, the overclocks dont have a ton of individuality. (I know m1000 doesn't have much for swarm clear either but it has blow through rounds and is so good at what it wants to do that it can be forgiven)

The GK2 leans war harder into single target then the M1000 ironically, because the M1K gets blowthrough while the GK2 doesn't. I do agree that the gun doesn't really come alive until it gets good overclocks though. As an unrelated note the drak sucks btw, its basically nothing but downside for scout

I probably should get around to trying out the scout's other weapons some more, but with AI Stability Engine, i just can't! It completely invalidates any other option for me, it does everything I need, reliably, all the way up to haz 5 & beyond
Complete stability and accuracy, great weakpoint damage, ok normal damage & good mag size are all i need as a support scout keeping myself alive to support the team with revives and nitra
Yeahit doesnt have any good crowd control, like most of scouts weapons, so in case i see a swarmaggedon warning or swarmer tunnel, i make sure to not get too far from my teammates and/or keepan ear out with an escape path in mind

All you need to do is be patient with your shooting and you could pop the eyes off a Brood Nexus from the other side of the cave.
Why do people like the other guns so much?
The Drak shoots fast, but its projectiles deal even less damage than the GK2 and you'll overheat long before you deal some proper damage.
And the M1000 forces you to look at a horde and think: "Lemme just slowly pop it one Glyphid at a time."
The M1000 is just an ammo waster with out the charged shot upgrade since you're wasting twice the ammo for only 25% more damage without it and the Drak takes half its ammo reserve and 3 lifetimes to melt anything bigger than a Slasher.
The GK2 is the most ammo efficient, is just as accurate as the other 2, and pairs the best with Scouts secondaries, not to mention how well it pairs with his grenades. Using a pheromone Grenade or an Inhibitor Field to bunch up Glyphids before opening fire on a large, unmissable group.
I build my Gk2 with max RoF, min-reload time to just keep firing and firing and firing AND JUST GOJNG AND GOING AND *GOING*

drak definitely does not dominate the scout "meta" lol, widely regarded by veterans and modded players (6x2 and above) as the worst primary by far
i use this weapon way to much i have never used m1000 or the plasma and i use the crossbow overclocks any and it makes a MONSTER BUILD use it miners

GK2 for a long time is more of a gimic weapon because the other's just seem to out perform it but...that last season that changed BIG time. One you now can make it 1 shot swarmers and that saves ammo. Then you have the fire rate buff that makes it just feel so much better on top adding the OC firing mechanism makes it one of the fastest firing weapons in the game. Then there's AI stability engine and that has one of the highest damage value you can get on a single target that requires no set up and you can boost it fire rate now!

From what I've seen, its perfectly rated. Its mostly just a noob weapon that people who've played call of duty can pick up and use easily, while more experienced players I've seen gravitate more towards the m1000 and the drak. Its potential, though, is quite underrated. It has a bunch of insanely good over clocks, and AI stability engine is something I take on many elimination missions.
GK2 is the best scout's weapon... but sadly it depends on your tracking skills...

"Most ammo efficient weapon" is such a hot take regarding gk2.
vs M1K it lacks armourbreak upgrade (T4 AB does not exist) and can't have blowthrough and even with AISE or battle frenzy you still get many shots miss enemy or weakpoint because you have to keep the gun aimed at the enemy for the duration of entire ttk.
vs Drak - Drak has OCs even more braindead (besides electro-reload may be) and it has T4.electric DOT that deals more than one grunt's HP for full duration.
Jack of all Trades? It lacks the blowthrough and total damage to be viable at gruntclear so you are better off with T4.crit and have an actually good tank DPS gun. Non-ER Gk2 and M1K SCC are the only scout primaries that die of cringe against a pack of grunts, unlike DRAK or M1K. 6 rounds to kill a single grunt if you don't hit the weakpoint is just unacceptable. All scout primary builds are good-to-amazing to kill high value targets, good-to-amazing to eliminate tanks, thus clearing hordes is what makes a scout primary be a Jack of all Trades.
AISE with Armor Break is a very popular and good choice simply because the weakpoint mod does not give you much more of a boost to your already high weakpoint damage, and lets you deal with brundles, shellbacks, stingtails, etc. ten times easier. This actually lets the gk2 compete with m1k

I tried to play with carbine and classic, this weapons just not for me. Gk 2 is just easier to use. I think this is one of the best weak point weapon in whole game, only volatile bullets or executioner are compare, m1000 is not comfortable weapon. (I have 1200 hours, and I hate other scout primaries)
