The minimum focus distance is my favorite part about this lens because I can do insect and birds with the same lens, especially skittish insects were so hard to shoot with a macro lens before i got this one
The Arca Swiss foot was a big sell point, and it works read with most tripod heads. But I really wish the groove extended the entire length of the foot. I started using the 150-600 for BIF video and the foot doesn't fit a large base well. I had to bolt a 6 inch Arca plate to the foot so I could properly balance my XT5 on the video head. Minor issue, but take note if you're going to use a video head.
I think this a great lens for birding on a bright day or landscapes, but the small aperture is definitely not good for wildlife or sports when the light is dim. The weight is good though, hopefully Fuji comes out with some good primes later like maybe a 400 f/4 or 600 f/4.
Easily could have been a 200-600 f4.5-5.6. I’ll pay an extra few hundred $ and add a couple oz for the faster glass. This thing will take snap shots in the middle of the day or at 12,800 iso lmao
@@bunmeng007 yes it would, just like their 200mm f/2 that has the same build as this one and costs 6K. No super telephoto lens with that focal range and fixed aperture is costing less than that, but you get what you pay for. Canon and Nikon have lenses over 10K!
If you’re in dim light at the equivalent of 900mm, I don’t think putting your iso up a bit is your biggest problem. Ultimately, a bright 600mm on a apsc might have bragging rights, but I don’t see it as practical or affordable to most wildlife shooters.
@@wanderingfool6312 Well I definitely wouldn’t want a 600mm prime for bragging rights personally, but yeah the everyday photographer who doesn’t shoot professionally wouldn’t want or could justify the cost of a fast prime. I do feel Fuji should still step into that market though. They’re definitely the king of APSC cameras and would be cool to see their cameras on sidelines and represented in the professional wildlife community.
Just bought it. The buttons on the lens don’t work when mounted to an XPro3. No worries, I’ll wait for the firmware , hopefully that fixes the compatibility issue.
Dude, teleconverters on these kinds of zoom lenses are absolutely worthless. Might as well crop in post, will probably result in a better image, since the TC will decrease your maximum aperture. The 150-600 is miles ahead at 600mm compared to the 100-400 with the 1.4 tc in terms of sharpness.
Depends… I’d probably wait for some in depth reviews, I don’t think this thing offers the same quality as the 100-400. This wins for the IF system, the insane reach and of course by being more modern but that’s it. I may be wrong, I’m waiting for reviews myself but I’ve owned the 100-400 and this doesn’t fully convinces me
@@brockb4452 If you're a professional ph I'd suggest the 100-400mm with 1.4* TC 'cause it's very high quality glass and the 1.4 does not ruin you photos too much... if you're an amateur or an enthusiast then I'd buy the newer 150-600mm simply for its cheaper price and longer FL! Don't forget there's also a noticeable difference in weight between these two lenses. After owning the 100-400mm I can tell you: that thing gets very heavy very soon when you're carrying it around... If you don't bring you high quality glass with you 'cause it's too heavy it's pointless to own it then...
Looks like widest aperture for this lens at 600mm is f8, compared to f6.3 for Sony's lens. On the plus side, this is lighter (but I'd much rather be able to shoot at the wider aperture at 600mm). Will be interesting to see how sharpness compares, I'd be surprised if the Fuji lens is sharper. Also the Sony lens is about 500usd cheaper.
@@tilikumtim5562 Yes, going just by the price point I expect the Fuji won't perform as well as the Sony -- and the Sony is a bargain at that. But after watching Gerald Undone's video on the X-H2S, it appears Fuji still hasn't improved video AF performance over the XT4, so that's a deal breaker for me.
@@OAK_MTN How's that? They both go to 600mm. Or do you mean at the other end of the range? The extra 50mm at the other end of the focal length doesn't matter too much to me (for wildlife I would be using it mostly between 400-600). If I was wanting to use this at 150-200 range, it would be interesting to see a comparison between tthis lens and the Sigma 150-600 with the Fringer adapter.
Using the FUJIFILM Fujinon XF 150-600mm f/5.6-8 would give you a bit longer reach on the shorter end compared to using the XF 100-400mm equipped with a 1.4X Teleconverter.

2:06 the way I gasped!
I'm so close to buying this lens. What is the one thing that will make me say yes?
Excellent overview, thanks
I think I will still go with Tamron 150-600g2 with adapter, given the cheaper price and wider aperture of the Tamron.
Focus is not very accurate and the extended barrel when zooming makes it more annoying to zoom in and out.
don t do that, had the tamron and i was disapointed.
Sharpness, stabilisation and autofocus is much better with the Fuji.
Will definitely be looking at upgrading from my 100-400.
This lens seems to basically be the equivalent of the 100-400m with a 1.2 teleconverter attached

Thanks for the vid. Does this lens work well with the XT-5?
yes, this lens will fit on the Fujifilm XT-5
superb lens. wud have preferred a max aparture of f4 or 4.5 fixed through the entire range upto to 600mm. at f8- 600 mm its rather slow.
That's what making me doubt about getting this lens, I am very used to the 100-400 mm lens.... but I would love that extra reach!
a fixed f/4 150-600mm? who’s accomplished this?
I hear the complaints about the aperture, but I don’t see the logic of producing a lens that will be twice the price and weight for one stop of light.
Can I use this with my Fuji X-T20? I'm looking into shooting sports photography like swimming and motorcycle racing. What are your thoughts?
yes, this lens will be a great match with your FujiFilm X-T20 for sports photography.
Well... I think I found my lens to photograph my migratory birds...
