Were you here in the 80's? See Melbourne during the mid 80's at least? The indigenous had their chance and they blew it.. Domestic violence, gang wars [w/ the Maori and Vietnamese, to name a couple] I'm sorry to say but it was a bad time for all involved and the indigenous population had to be moved out of Melbourne, in mass. We still have this bad taste in our mouth and sorry we moved in [to Australia] but the rest of the world has moved beyond such things. We are ONE PEOPLE ON THIS PLANET>.
I vaguely recalled watching a video on MTV for this song as a kid. I was convinced it existed but could not remember the lyrics or the tune and it’s never played in the US. Today, it popped into my head out of nowhere, 40 years later, and it’s just as I remember it. But even better now understanding the meaning behind it.
Happen to hear this song on a Special international rock segment of my local station in Phoenix AZ back in the day. I've introduced many to Goanna and this song! This song is timeless and in my Playlist many times!
You actually be surprised, you could have been walking around the shops and it was played. Im Australian but on a trip to Dallas "USA" I heard it and was shocked I thought it was not released in America. Great song to play while driving alone, even better when its on the radio and you see another driver enjoying it and singing as loud as you.
Shane Howard is a very special man to have written this song. It is however much more than a song; for those who can see the forest from the trees know its true meaning is much more powerful. What is right will always be right. What is true will always be true. Everything will return to its rightful place.
@@westaussie965the indigenous should be. Don't call them that, it's generally offensive. I mean idk if your pro or anti when it comes to the truth of our history and our present but...
No. It was horrible what happened but horrible things were going on all around the world. To every culture, whites included just pick you time period. No one still holds those same beliefs now and plenty has been done to compensate. Maybe in China and Africa where slavery and similar things are currently happening but lets keep doing business with them.. Keep up the handouts and we will revert back to tribalism because our country will be broke (already is). Time to assimilate or go back to the bushes and stop complaining. The amount of hand outs to indigenous is ridiculous at this point. Anyways this was always created by the government and now us people pay for it through taxes and listening to it all. We are all Australians stop playing into the division. 99% of our current problems in the world were created or made worse by the governments around the world, stop listening to them. I am from India.I was searching for this song since 1981.This i heard in ABC program. The ending part is superb. This song was number 2 or 3out of Top 20 at that time.
What a moving comment, in the opinion of this 57 year old. I remember hearing this on FM radio station KZEW in Dallas-Ft. Worth in 1982; 38 years ago roughly. It is still as moving lyrically and musically, now, as it was then. Which I believe defines a "classic"; (perhaps I am wrong, again, my opinion). Rock on Dockers.
1982 Australia was (finally) ready for this song. Because of Solid Rock, by 1987 we were ready for Beds Are Burning. Because of both of these songs, by 1991 we were ready for Treaty. Beds Are Burning and Treaty were performed at the opening ceremony of the Sydney Olympics - they should been preceded by Solid Rock.
This is not only a national credit to Mr. S. Howard/ Goanna and everyone else involved in producing, composing and arranging this song, it should have attracted worldwide credit in my opinion with the support of our officials here in Australia. On the contrary, our officials, as always interpreted the song politically and found it to be "divisive", and didnt give it their approval and most probably, instructed the high echelons of the corporate monopoly of the music industry to treat the song like an infectious disease. The song in essence was basically telling us that there is no power greater than God,Cosmos/universe, creation,,nature etc and that we all were created by it, as mortals that live and share a finite order of system that has the power to claim back, and end its own system of creation, being us and where we live, with a grand natural disaster in an instant. Yes the song did carry factual events of our lived history in the infancy stages before becoming a commonwealth as a federation to later years, then we created our own identities as Australians with the legendary ANZAC`s thereafter with the world wars etc. But undeniably, When colonialism arrived here, there were numerous amount of unspeakable crimes that were committed to our First Nation People without any remorse, empathy or compensation, or even an acknowledgement for way too long in my opinion. In the time when the awareness of those crimes were, or had come to light to the people, mostly exposed by authorities/academics along with solid evidence of the crimes imposed/committed, it would have been seen as a threat to their political careers and agendas, therefore to protect their own interests (the politicians), there would have been "black covert ops" deployed to "murder" the publicity and popularity process of this great song from our beloved Goanna group, that none of the pollies would ever disclose or confess, if they were ever put in that position i dont believe, as we witnessed how our so called leaders mismanaged the whole COVID conundrum. On that note, After Solid Rock, I personally feel an attachment/association or an obligation along with compassion in metaphoric terms, every time i hear the song "Walk In The Light Green" (I was only 19) by Redgum, to all of our Diggers past and present, along with all of their immediate families and loved ones, that are courageously, proudly and tirelessly providing their services for this beloved nation of ours selflessly. In this day and age, we need a million more Shane Howards in support of the unknown heros that truly exist and are currently still active in organising to spread the truth at all levels and contributing so much more at other areas unselfishly in our collective endeavour to cleanse our nation of the crime and corruption that has infested every corner of our beloved Australia by the incompetent actions of despotic tyrants, that are AKA politicians, in hope to make our nation great once more to the future generations.

This is my favourite Australian song ever. Need more bands making music like this today. Because nothing has changed for Indigenous people in Australia. So much stinking hypocrisy in this place - no doubt one of the Rio Tinto executives responsible for the blowing up of that ~45,000 sacred Aboriginal site recently would bop to this song without batting an eyelid.
'out here nothing changes, not in a hurry anyway.' What a prophetic line. Things didn't change for 45,000 years and that was OK coz their culture was good. But now over the last 200 plus years, plenty has changed for the worst, and nothing is changing for the better.
I woke up hearing this song in the middle in the night right before I was about to take ayahuasca. I have never felt like I belonged in Australia before I heard this😊 I respect this ground I walk on now through this song.

The other song you are thinking of that references the channel 7 chopper is a song titled "A walk in the light green", often commonly known as "I was only nineteen". This was done by a different Aussie band called "Redgum" I hope this helps.

Y'know when your parents play their favourite music all the time when you're a kid, but you never learn the name or band, the only thing you remember is the sound. I'm having that kinda nostalgia now as this song randomly comes on in a mix. Glad I know the band and song name now, this is going to be a regular appearance in my music mixes.

From a scouse pom living in Perth,,one of my fave Aussie tunes( and they have fucken loads of brilliant tunes ).. Long live the indigenous people’s of this land,,, cos it’s fucken theirs.✌️👍
Mate, you’re as Aussie as any of the rest of us non-aboriginal folk. We’ve been here around 10 generations whereas First Nations people are into probably 3,000. White fellas are a blip in time on this country.
@@chrisstar969 no Chris, I’m an English lad... This song says it as it is.. I’m not Australian. You’re not. No one is Ask the indigenous people of this land what it’s called ,,..Then ask them if they will allow you to live in their land..You fucking muppet..

The backing vocals elevate this from sublime to genius.
Brilliant, whole heartedly agree, such a gutsy performance all round.
I was a youngen, around about '87 me thinks, at Mallacoota golf club i saw Goanna.
Amazing night for all.
I'll never forget.
Solid Rock!
What a tune! Timeless, Magnificent, Masterpiece! With a message that resonates to this day!
👌👏👏👏✊

I vaguely recalled watching a video on MTV for this song as a kid. I was convinced it existed but could not remember the lyrics or the tune and it’s never played in the US. Today, it popped into my head out of nowhere, 40 years later, and it’s just as I remember it. But even better now understanding the meaning behind it.
The one, the only aboriginal anthem that will never age.
Happen to hear this song on a Special international rock segment of my local station in Phoenix AZ back in the day. I've introduced many to Goanna and this song! This song is timeless and in my Playlist many times!
@@tikinut3458 great to hear ..it was a period where Australia had a heap of great rock songs many of which the rest of the world never heard
G'day they had another brilliant song like this called...... Razors edge........ Just like this it's bloody awesome 💯 percent 👍🤔
We're absolutely going back...

@@CanadianPolybiuse thinks the abbos are going to be in control😂
The voice a good example of them creating division.
Was in Australia in January when I heard this song first on the radio. Surprised it never made its way to the UK or Ireland like Midnight oil.
Cracking song
Surprisingly, it made to the United States and peaked to #71 in mid 1983
Are you surprised? The Brits are the ones who lied. They even think we're ungrateful for wanting to become a republic. I'm saying this as a dual national. The motherland lied.
Lyrics:
Out here nothin' changes, not in a hurry anyway
You feel the endlessness with the comin' of the light o' day
We're talkin' about a chosen place
You wouldn't sell it in a marketplace, well
Well just a minute now
Standing on solid rock
Standing on sacred ground
Living o-on borrowed ti-i-i-ime
And the winds of change are blowin' down the line
Right down the line
Round about the dawn o' time, When dreamin' all began
A crowd o' people came
Well they were looking for their promised land
Were running from the heart of darkness
Searching for the heart o' light
Well it was their paradise
But they were standin' on - solid rock
Standing o-on sacred grou-ound
Living o-on borrowed ti-i-i-ime
And the winds of change were blowing cold that night
Oh
They were standin' on the shore one day, Saw the white sails in the sun
Wasn't long before they felt the sting, white man, white law, white gun
Don't tell me that it's justified, 'cause somewhere, someone lied
Yeah well someone lied, someone lied, genocide
Well someone lied, oh, ahh
And now you're standing on - solid rock
Standing o-on a sacred grou-ound
Living o-on borrowed ti-i-i-ime
And the winds of change are blowin' down the li-ine
Solid rock, Standing on sacred ground
Living o-on borrowed ti-i-i-ime
And the winds of change are blowing down the line
Solid rock, Standing o-on sacred grou-ound
Living o-on borrowed ti-i-i-ime
And the winds of change are blowing down the line
Oh-oh-oh no, NO-O
Thank you so much for putting the lyrics up. Remember the song from when I was young, but never got all the words.
Thank you!!
Thank you 👏🖤👏

Not many of our Aussie songs get a million + clicks. So not too bad really.

Truth of the matter , only 1.7 million real Australian in Australia. Government fucked it for real Australians from the 80’s onwards
Maybe it’s that the generation that were around when it came out are less inclined to watch TH-cam. They bought it on cassette or vinyl and then a cd?
bout 5 of them are me. so far. have it on tape, record and cd as well.
Had the privilege to meet Shane in primary school, what a man, the love he has for our country, the land in which we live on & the folk that roamed the land for centuries before us is something I’ll remember forever. ❤️🖤💛 🇦🇺
Gotta admit- Australian idol brought me here, but am so glad that it did. I'm from Bulgaria and it's the first time I'm hearing of that band and I love it :)
I am from India.I was searching for this song since 1981.This i heard in ABC program. The ending part is superb. This song was number 2 or 3out of Top 20 at that time.

So happy to rediscover this 30+ years later.
Great song. They played it for a few weeks on New York radio back in 1982. Always loved and remembered it.
Still one of the most Australian songs ever written. Fucken love it!
I’m 13 years old and I’m probably the only kid in my year who knows this song but it’s still an Aussie classic
Good on ya son, show your friends there is more to “ ASAP rocky” and all those nikka beats.
Love your style buddy!
Indeed it is. Every time I hear this I get the urge to head on homeward and roll around in all that red dirt out there....
Your parents raised you right kid
Played in the 2022 grand final! Legendary Aussie music! Great band
49 years old, and still crisp, relevant, and rockin! Timeless music, and among my vinyl treasures!
Sorry, 40
This song has one of the best tunes that you could never rid of , it goes so well and has utmost respect
always was , always will be.
I was 12 when this was released and bought the 45 with my pocket money. It was powerful at time and has become more relevant over time.
Driven here by the rendition at the Swans vs. Cats season finale and couldn't get the words out - they cut deep. Will be spinning the single this afternoon after the game...

This song never ages. Thank you Shane Howard and band for this truly amazing, heartfelt and truthful song of our indigenous peoples and the awful part of history that should never be forgotten. 👍🙂💖

Weird how you can listen to a song your whole life and only just come to appreciate it all these years later

So true
'out here nothing changes, not in a hurry anyway.' What a prophetic line. Things didn't change for 45,000 years and that was OK coz their culture was good. But now over the last 200 plus years, plenty has changed for the worst, and nothing is changing for the better.

The other song you are thinking of that references the channel 7 chopper is a song titled "A walk in the light green", often commonly known as "I was only nineteen".
This was done by a different Aussie band called "Redgum"
