I haven't seen this quality of aluminum welding in over 30 yrs, my son's god father who worked in a sheet metal fabrication shop was the go to guy to do aluminum welding, and he was the best of the best, and this gent doing the welding in this video should be proud of his work, kudoos to him and keep up the great work, as for the keyboard Karen's, well all I gotta say is if don't know then shut up watch and learn !! Have a great merry Christmas
Aluminum is hard to weld, because it doesn't puddle up, like steel does, instead it justs gets a wrinkle look, then a few seconds later after the wrinkle look, the aluminium just falls apart, so its crucial to get your welding rod into the wrinkle area, just as it wrinkles, them keep moving, before the whole wrinkle area, just falls off, in one big blob. Also, its good to use an aluminum flux when welding aluminum, for a better looking weld.😁👍
I would use mention instead of tell, but I get the picture. This guy could even fix a 6061 aluminum bike even though 40,000 psi is plenty of tensile strength. Stronger than carbon fiber in general.
Takes a bit of practice but can make a very sound weld using gas torch with aluminum arc welding rod as a filler rod. Can use in the field without electricity. Was a common practice in the early part of to 20th century. Easier to do if you have a pair of the old blue lensed gas welding googles so you can see when the base metal starts to melt. Over the past few years I’ve done several successful repairs this way and have tested several samples that achieved full penetration welds stronger that the base pieces being welded.
The way I’ve been doing this, the weld is fluxed and shielded by the flux on the arc welding rod I’m using as a filler rod. I’ve also done some welding with no filler rod or with bare aluminum filler strips where I cleaned all materials by sanding or brushing with an un contaminated stainless steel wire bush and welded using the aluminum flux sold by Tinman Technologies (a good source for speciality tools for sheet metal work and sheet metal welding) - off hand I don’t know what is in the flux which is supplied as a white powder you mix up with distilled water.
How do you know if your aluminum is hot enough to weld, but not so hot it falls apart? 1) you should clean all that comtanination out. 2) turn your torch to where it is just burning acetylene. You want that orange/black sooty flame. Put the torch on the metal and get it black. 3) Turn your torch to the proper heat for the job. 4) now heat the material. The black soot will burn off when the metal is ready. This works well before you TIG weld or any type of aluminum welding.
Learned this 40+ years ago in high school. It’s best to clean all surfaces and wipe them down with acetone before welding, makes a cleaner, stronger and better looking weld
Please correct me if mistaken and supporting evidence. This cannot be welding but brazing or soldering. The base metal is not forming a puddle; not a fusion of base and filler metals.
This is gas welding. He is forming a weld puddle, and manipulating it with the butt end of a steel welding rod. The filler material is a fat bit of aluminum, which is added at times, then he goes back to working the weld puddle with the steel welding rod. When you see the welding rod, he is not adding filler, just working the puddle. The parent metal and filler are all blended together. That's not low temp zinc he's using for filler, it is aluminum, which means the parent metal is being heated to the melting point.
What I see is, the process of extracting dross from the surface of the puddle by using the arc welding rod to collect it by a scratching technique. The preliminary weld to secure the parts in place is cleaned in preparation for the filler rod, after the application of the filler rod the weld is again cleaned by pooling and scratching. The same thing happens when you melt ally for casting, before pouring ,the dross is removed with the help of a steel sieve. Great work...
Looks a really skilful job. What gas is used here propane or poss Argon or a mix?. Steel rod to remove Oxidisation and filler rod where necessary?.great anyway.👍
Most of the time, he's manipulating the weld puddle with the butt end of a steel welding rod. Then adding a little filler, and repeating the process. He is melting the parent metal, and adding filler, literally the definition of welding. If you think it looks easy, its because you've never tried to do it.
Salut!
well let's see.....it shows him at the start of the video opening the valve on an oxygen tank so I would guess it's oxygen and propane....but we'll let you figure it out Einstein 🤨

there's flux already on the rod
Thank you, great skill with the torch, so easy to blow through the metal
it's not that hard. you just need more practice

EXCELENTE VIDEO¡¡... Y MUY FACIL DE ENTENDER¡¡...SALUDOS DESDE MEXICO¡¡
Good job, looks like works well for you.
Takes practice to not put too much heat in that piece.
Congratulations! Simple and efficient. Big hug from the south of Brazil!

The old cobalt lenses. I think glass blowers still use them.
I know that you use borax when you weld with bronze. Is it the same with aluminium?

Great video, what type of electrode do you use at the beginning of the repair ?

Propane limits temp. Read description! See prior videos on casting rod!

Early days I gas welded aluminum but I must admit I like TIG better!
Thank you for always sharing your great techniques, there are few who share this valuable information, I accompany you here from Brazil😃
I just found your channel today, and have been watching your videos all afternoon. Very nice work.
What are those rods u are using and what flux are u using
Gostei muito bacana dimais você é professor
Soldado e com acetileno e oxigênio e

Are you using propane or acetylene ? With the oxygen
Propane, read description!
Jos mantap
Kerja yang bagus 👍
Man is good! I mean he is really good!
That will work Dr. Frankenstein
It works better when you clean the aluminum
Mucha habilidad y experiencia
I guess the reason why no one tells you about these welding tricks is, parts like this nowadays are made of plastic, especially in the auto industry.
Dude. Alumiweld. You're welcome.
Can you please tell me the rods being used here. Thanks
likely ER4043 filler rod for doing work on cast parts, it's an aluminum-silicon(5%) alloy filler rod.
Alumiweld works good also.
You use LPG or acetylene

Not many know how to weld with water as a fuel. My MultiPlaz welder does it with ease.

Acetylen 👍
Gak terlihat pemakaian fluxnya, tapi kok bisa nempel sempurna ya? Mohon petunjuknya suhu 🙏

Saya pakai kawat khusus tetap ndak nempel, mungkin kurang kuat apinya

When you clean up that, Weld? , I would think the part would just fall off. Looks more like a solder job maybe a braze at best.

very good but CO2 gas?
Bang apa perbedaannya kalo ngelas aluminium pake acytelin dengan gas elpiji
Nope
Mas info nozle stang las nya dong 🙏
Old Style Bro, We call that ALUMAWELD...Lol...
Artistry. Anyone who thinks this is easy (or mistakes it for brazing) has never tried to gas weld aluminum castings.
This welding rod is of which material ?
Same question
Repurposed aluminum scraps

wat is the alloy rod
Sir what kind of torch did you use ?
Isn't that the head from a previous video that you "fixed".? Seems it's a paper weight now
Remove excess flux after welding by washing off with boiling water
is that straight propane or oxygen too?

It appears that he is using the welding electrode to apply flux. What is he using for flux?
It would be better if you don't have and use metalic brash.

but how come does gas welding work with a co2 gas. co2 is neither oksidizer or suport combustion like oxygen does
¿que gas usa: acetileno o propano?????????
E visto muchos vídeos soldando aluminio
Y no utilizan.fundente
Voy a intentarlo
Those are aluminium rod
Amazing
Do you mean you used LPG + O2? Oxygen, not CO2.
Bom dia solda na TIG fica perfeito.
Bengkelnya dmn bang?
Because that’s braising not welding…
You need some good aluminum flux.
Parabens
Itu co apa o2?
co2 LPG !
Please send me details about the alluminium brazing kit price details
What are you talking about? That part he ruined is aluminum.
