    I understand the ocean thing. I grew up with mountains in all four directions. Twenty five years later I moved, and no mountains in sight. Twenty seven years after that, and I still miss those mountains.

      Yes, i lived in a very mountain heavy town, like, the only flat land is in downtown, and everything is uphill from there, now i moved to a plateau, and its just weird, like, what do you mean i can just, bike there? And not have to push the bike up a massive winding road? And than not die riding down?

    I've got the same thing, but with mountains. Who needs the ocean, there's sharks and giant squids and weird monsters that want to eat you. Mountains just have bears and cougars, and they usually leave you alone (but if they don't, at least you can see them and they're limited to gravity instead of free swimming everywhere)

    Your rant about living by the ocean makes a ton of sense. I grew up near huge mountain ranges and if I don't see them on the horizon, the world feels almost alien and wrong. I moved out of the state for a few months, but it never felt like home and it was only when I returned that I realized why.

    I'm the kind of lunatic in these kind of games to pick out insane locations (I saw a tiny patch of desert land between the continents that's like only 1 or 2 spaces on the map, I'd pick that.).

    The timber cross beams are called wattle. Hol' up, lemme get the definition:
    Wattle and daub is a composite building method used for making walls and buildings, in which a woven lattice of wooden strips called wattle is daubed with a sticky material usually made of some combination of wet soil, clay, sand, animal dung and straw.

  • @dieyng
    @dieyng ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Since I began following this channel I learned a few things about the current indie game developers.
    1. Most of the time they use "retro" graphics, that look like shit. Just plain ugly. They say it's retro, but I think it's because they can't do better.
    2. Most of the games are either colony builders, survival or rogue-likes or a combination there of.
    I'm not saying there aren't many great looking and very interesting indie games there, but these are trends I find tiresome and annoying in general.
    Like, there are a few games I've seen, where the retro-art is done in a really appealing way, because yeah, there were good-looking games even in the 8 and 16t bit era, and I've played them back then, because I'm that old. So it's not like I am a little kid who just doesn't like old style graphics, but I am glad that games look better today.
    Most of them though, it's like they think retro means ugly and makes it easier for them, and that kind of annoys me.

    • @ItsMrAssholeToYou
      @ItsMrAssholeToYou ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As someone who also lived through the 8 and 16 bit eras, I find this fascination with pixel art kind of stupid. Those of us who did our time staring at blocks of up to four whole different colors (such luxury over the monochrome we enjoyed previously) would've given our left legs and sold our grandmothers for graphics that at least _vaguely_ resembled what they were supposed to be.
      And it's kind of telling how these people absolutely jizz their pants over NES- and SNES-level graphics, yet nobody's trying to replicate the graphical fidelity of Combat or Pac-Man for the Atari VCS or audio that nothing more than beeps, buzzes and hissing. It's like, are you 'retro aficionados' or not? It honestly just feels like a current-day form of hipster-ism.

    • @scorseve
      @scorseve ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I find that pixel art doesn't age as fast and as badly as "realistic" graphics. But I also find realism ugly as hell most of the time, so I must be biased 😄

    • @Greshgore
      @Greshgore ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I mean, this channel as a whole is a filter. You're only seeing the games that splattercat feels like covering, if you want to see other offerings there are ways to find them.

    • @dieyng
      @dieyng ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ItsMrAssholeToYou That for one, and like I wrote it's way easier to do than anything resembling modern graphics.
      I know a few people who have a real interest in this kind of retro-art and that I respect, even though it is still nothing I can understand or follow, but yeah a lot of it is what we used to call just posers trying to be hip but following a trend that was already old a year ago. 🙂

    I hate these "everything is generated" games. Makes everything generic.I much prefer a game where the developer actually had something to tell with a unique story, not simple mechanics.
