2023 just wanna say I agree that the awakening did the best cover of that song. Disturbed, was after the awakening, and once you heard the awakening, then nothing could actually top them.
I love all the "better than Disturbed" comments. Of Course it is! For two reasons: They were the first to cover this in this style, and they're from PRETORIA; SOUTH AFRICA!!!
It is 2022 and still I can't get enough to listen to this version. That voice is just blowing me away. Proudly South African, SALUTE, ASHTON !!!!!!!! What happened to your band ?? I still get a newsletter and latest news from you.
The Sounds of Silence, I'll give it a listen... This guy's got a deep voice, it's definitely on the opposite range of the scale from Simon and Garfunkel... This is getting better... oh my God... what a nice job they did with this cover, it's fucking awesome. Very awesome. Thanks for posting it!
Yup, grew up on this. Well, where I first fell in love with goth music. People in the comments saying it sounds like Type O Negative and Peter Murphy - yes definitely two of Ashton Nyte's influences no doubt. Old goth days in Pta, South Africa!
I had the privilege of attending a set they played in my Hometown, Vanderbijlpark, South Africa 🇿🇦 about 25 years ago in a Night Club called "The Don". What a show it was. Still have the CD at home . The Album's name was " Risen ". Will post a picture of it in about 24Hrs. On my way to work.😄👌🏻
Huge moment of nostalgia for me. I knew their keyboardist (not sure if he was on this recording) and used to catch them live when they were in Durban. Missing the Jamies/Burn days.
There is nobody in the world that can beat Ashton's vocals like he masterly sings here on this classic hit. Just listen to how he changes over to a higher pitch - BRILLIANT WOW BRILLIANT. My all-time SA band. OK, Throw Arno Carstens in there among the best as well.
I grew up in the seventies, simon and garfunkles version depressed you then. any version now is still depressing, but thats just the vibe we get from the world today. I think disturbs version would be epic if there was a harmonizing demon growling the words with him..... and a little more depth in the guitar rhythm. but thats my dream, I take what I hear and mix it in my head to accommodate my tastes.
+zeregaa I should have read the reviews befor I replied....so you hear it too? but less backround music. not as apocalyptic? like type o on a smaller scale
all I can say is this band got worked Disturbed in my opinion transposed it to match this group huge similarities in structure also that's my opinion if this band still reads these posts you all rocked this
Unfortunately, only old Doorsmen know this version. At least the way it was played at the club. Usually in the very early hours of the morning. Very loud with strobe lights. Was so long ago but feels like yesterday.
Always come back to this version, long before disturbed and way better.
Ja selde, think they do the best cover...
@@TheSilmarallion stem 100% saam

Reminds me of Barney Simon and Uncle Paul on 5fm back in the day. Moshing at the Station in Durban. Those were good days.

Saw them live many times. I still get Ash's newsletter with a free trax added in.
Awesome cover! Fond memories of hearing this playing at the Doors nightclub back in SA.

Ashton Nait is still going strong in 2022 - search his music - you will be glad you did. Awesome SA artist.

By far! And long before them too.
...and before them, too! lol
This guy has the voice for this song , Disturbed is good, this is deeper.
Fuck that's awesome!!!!! Been listening to that song for the last 40 years but that is doing S&G honor!
Saw them in Port Elizabeth many years ago. O what a great band to see live and lets not forget No Friends Of Harry. Those were fun days.
Best ever. And forever. Only the awakening

Best cover of this song ever.... Better than Disturbed.

I really did not know they're South African? Goeie werk bra's!
I really love this band so deep and dark and beautiful :)
Huge moment of nostalgia for me. I knew their keyboardist (not sure if he was on this recording) and used to catch them live when they were in Durban. Missing the Jamies/Burn days.

Gotta say, Disturbed’s cover is pretty good but this is so much better ❤
I really like this goth type version.
Proud to be South African here.
+Francois Vanheerden Jy het die spyker op sy kop geslaan boet ;-)
NET SO MY MAAT!!!
seker die beste rendition van die song.....julle ousens is top Suid Afrikaans
Luister boys, wate de poes
I like this version it reminds me of Peter Steele or type of negative I should say
Definetly getting a Type O negative vibe from this

And echoed in the wells of silence
Best ever
Yeah this rocks I used to jam with my band at venues and always played this song during brakes. Dont like SA music much but this kick ass!!!!!
The Awakening, come back.
did you see this was posted 5 years ago? before Disturbed thought to cover this
Sharon, it may have been posted here in 2011, but it was originally released on their 1st album in 1997. Geez, has it really been 20 years now?
5 years ago? Only have 131,474 views. No wonder
still the best cover ...
Heard and loved this on Barney Simon's show in 1998.... when 5FM after 22:00 still did true to music
@@eugenefrench5431 Yep, this version is very old, but still the best cover.
Miss yah mah friend Ash
Totally kicks the kak out of Disturbed`s version!

It feels like a world away now.
There is many covers to it. All do well to get the emotion and feeling. End of day its you're sound. But RSA rule on this

Fucking awesome, goose bumps all over.
Better than Disturbed and Simon & Garunkel's version!
Great! 👍
Viva South Africa.
reminds me a tiny bit like type O negative....with less doom
The Awakening is touring Sa again with a host of new songs... Check out listings...
Love it
Remember when we were goth
WOW❤️
Power! 🇿🇦
they remind me of moonspell
your joking ..i loved this song for years by this band..never knew the where from SA.. Where are you guys now?
perfektní luxus
Next to Simon... Is this the only way the song should sound. Not the "disturbing" version. Ashton had it Perfect
THIS IS THE ORIGINAL IN MY MIND
Sounds like Peter Murphy.
Heavier than Disturbed no doubt. But lacking the somber feeling which seems to fit better.
Disturbed who???
This predates disturbed average cover almost 20 years. Sounds like Disturbed copied Awakening.
Disturbed version sucks.
Wow
Great version, but their 2014 version is even better!!
❤
Disturbed is who? This is the best version ever.
Sounds like skwisgaar skwigelf...
🤘🔥🇿🇦
The only cover worth listening to. And it's by a South African band!
fok ja!
type o negative ?
