Why doesn't this guy have at least 2 million subscribers? I can watch 3 or 4 of his videos at a time. Gabriel Traveler is basically the walking version of Rick Steves.
I have a Roman coin my father found under our village house in Turkey. Its so interesting to me that people from ancient times have used it and it changed owners and locations many times and now its with us. It just fascinates me
Moops guy here, lol. Thank you for showcasing Italy my favorite country. I'm half Italian and lived in Rome for 15 years, I traveled extensively throughout Italy in my time there. I highly recommend you rent a car in Rome and travel to and around Tuscany, the region is only a couple of hours drive from Rome. There are so many amazing towns in the region other than Pisa and Florence, many are very similar to Matera. Montalcino, Pitigliano, Lucca, Montepulciano, Montemerano. Saturnia has incredible thermal baths. All places off the beaten track and not too touristic. Amazing region with a rich history including the fascinating Etruscans, easy to drive around and so much to offer. I have a good friend who runs an amazing agriturismo near Saturnia. He would be more than happy to put you up there.
Also been to Italy about 5x. My first was in 1957. I also left at about 18 and turned 19 in August of 1957. Left from Michigan to Quebec by car with 3 buddies, then a 9 day boat ride to England, crossed channel by boat... 3 months.... total expenses about $1,100.oo. I kept notes. In 1983 I took my wife and 3 teen kids on the same exact itinerary... by plane of course. That trip in August.... planes and busses and trains were much quicker in 1983.
Wow there is so much to see in Italy, I was there 2 times, and would love to go back., thank you for sharing., your videos are very educational about the history.
Speaking of old cities, Cadiz Spain is the oldest inhabited city in the western world. Very historical with Phoenician, Roman, Muslim, and Christian ruins, historical landmarks. One problem is that it has been damaged by wars over the centuries. I’ve made a few videos there; you’d definitely love it. However, Matera’s intact infrastructure is impressive - it definitely stands out as such.
What a maze of wonderful dilapidated architecture. It reminds me of an Escher illustration. Really interesting history, Gabriel. Italy is such a stunning country 🌹✨🌷☀️😊🌻
Ciao Gabriel 😊😊 loved your beautiful videos on Italy . I am looking forward to visit this gorgeous country in future, in fact I have a bit of Italian heritage in my family background. But Alas! I haven't visited yet. I will surely do, mostly I would love to visit Tarento, Agrigento, Rome, Florence, Lucca, Pisa, Turin, parts of Tretino alto edige and ofcourse Venice and Napoli. 😊😊😍
Thanks for sharing the general phases of ancient history, also you might not be a historian, but has a good sense and details knowledge about the ancient facts that requires for several years to pass and lots of exploration, for which you have able to cross that part.
Hey Gabriel, awesome video. Thanks for taking the effort to show us this really cool place. Crazy to think of the effort that went into building this place.💪💪
Love your rambling on vids. Makes me feel like I am there not in rainy England! You should read Mary Beard's book on the Romans if you haven't already, quite hard going but interesting!!!
I agree that Italy is fascinating. The history of Italy has seen over centuries gives you goosebumps to think about. The first time I went to Rome it was to be a two week trip to several cities in Italy, however there was so much history and details to Rome itself that we canceled everything else for a later date and stayed the two weeks right in Rome. Each part of Italy has it's own stories and to this day it amuses me how the people in one part of Italy have trouble understanding people in other parts because of the difference in dialects .
A blessed good day sir Gabe Very beautiful ❤️ Quiet Place Stone City full of very interesting History of Italy thank u so much sir Gabe for your wonderful Sharing History and Story of Italy Stay safe Godbless from your solid fan viewer from the Philippines 🇵🇭 sir Vhin 🤗🙏🙂👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Gabriel, I really enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing them. Have you considered going to Calabria? That's where my parents are from. I would like to know more about the area.
Concerning the history of Italy after the collapse of the Roman empire we have been influenced by different peoples. The Greeks, Arabs, Spaniards, Vikings in the south; the Mongols, Germans,, French, Spaniards, Austrians in the north.
hi Gabriel, Many historians translate much of European history came hunters and gatherers and are tribes which is something you don't hear much anymore these days associated people from countries rather than tribes or kingdoms which is what Europe consisted of. Tribes like Visigoths, Celts, Vikings, Slavs, Saxon, Norman there are many different groups from all over Europe it's very convoluted very difficult to pin down all these groups plus they travel throughout Europe and intermixed through these travels.
Hi, I have my own vlog and I want to start doing a lot more walking and talking around the City and island of Cebu. With your years of experience how much would you recommend using an osmo action? My intent is a bit history talk, scenery and diving. Do you think it would be a good fit for me?
I highly recommend the DJI. Great stabilization, good picture quality, good audio. I use the Osmo Action but the Pocket is supposed to be good as well so it's worth looking into.
Rome was the greatest empire ever with its architecture and many other things and When Rome fell the known world passed into the dark ages Europe went backwards
@@GabrielTravelerVideos oh wow nice! Love your vids bro, you are always inspirational and you get to share your experience for people that might not be able to travel and visit these places.
Matera is said to be having this immense spiritual energy of Gaia, but was used through time for dark magic and rituals, including human sacrifice and cannibalism, and is said to still be attracting this kind of people. That is why the energy is that weird and dark makes you wanna leave But originally it is a powerful energy, that is not bad at all, but has been inverted and used that way One more reason, it was shut down and forbidden to enter.
I'm Canadian. I wish so hard I could be there in the Ukraine. As we say. So pissed you could chew bullets and spit lead. Alway's Gabe. Put life in perspective.
Forcing people to move out of a dwelling deemed unsuitable for the modern citizen may not be for the welfare of the inhabitants unless there is a robust welfare state which is doubtful in this case. It may have been more to do with the interests of the global tourism capital industry.
Love Italy, but quite frankly, I am consumed with watching videos of Ukraine and Poland during these times. Hard to watch anything else. Wonder if you have experienced a reduction in viewership the past couple of weeks?
I read that the foot of Italy was originally a Greek colony before the Romans conquered it. The Greeks concept of freedom and democracy is probably overplayed. Athens had 100,000 slaves working on its farms and down its silver mines. The Spartans also enslaved their neighbouring Greek state. At least the Romans offered Roman citizenship to the other Italian states they conquered.
You would get a fantatstic number of views by going to the Ukraine border and reporting on the people coming in... really, you are so close.. this would be an act of world helpfulness.altruism, and would be tremendously interesting...........
Here's Part 2 in which I I go for an amazing hike outside the city: th-cam.com/video/y0pR2jHWqHM/w-d-xo.html
Tunisia is a little sister of Italy, but with a complete different history, it's like an arabe flavoured Italy. It's nearby, your are welcome

The Roman Empire was amazing and I'm proud of my Italian ancestry. Thanks for the video.

Epic song.

Gabriel ..... I am so freaking scared! I used to live right there many many many years ago......these streets are very familiar to me......
Met a travel guide in the Almafi coast once who highly recommended to visit Lecce. Keep that in mind!!
I love all the music you use man
Impressive video! You are a bit unlucky with the weather cause it is quite uncommon to be that cold now in March in Southern Italy.

Always so interesting great job whit the video thanks.
Great video 👍Very interesting and informative 👏Thanks for sharing ✌😁
Worth noting that the Byzantines called themselves Romans and thought of themselves as the Roman Empire but spoke Greek. Fascinating dual traditions.
That town is part of the earth it looks.
Beautiful ❤️ VLOG 💕
Matera was the film location for the dramatic opening car chase sequence in recent Bond movie "No Time to Die".
Really? I thought that i saw somewhere that streets and yeah u are right its from that movie lol😅
Check out Ostuni, you,ll love it!
Yes!!!!
@Gabriel Traveler min 27:17 you were talking about past civilizations, do you think the nation's today will fall someday and a new one will arise?
Concerning the history of Italy after the collapse of the Roman empire we have been influenced by different peoples. The Greeks, Arabs, Spaniards, Vikings in the south; the Mongols, Germans,, French, Spaniards, Austrians in the north.
You need to go Paestum, Italy
I was hoping not to see any GRAFFITTI in Matera, nope saw some there. 😲
Looks like a gigantic set
A cool place

sounds like things must be going ok with Francesca.
Very nice video. I have never gone to Italy. Nice Attractions..for sure will be in my list for my channel. What cam you use Gab?
Filmed with a DJI Osmo, link below the video.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos The best thing about osmo is that even if it is burning after a lot of hour of shooting , it does not get stuck or freeze.

An aspect that the ancient Romans had over the modern Americans.
Sturdy stone houses built to last. 😉
I won't lie to you Gabe. I was wondering about the state of the planet.
What's the word on street right now? Who cares about yesterday.
I'm Canadian. I wish so hard I could be there in the Ukraine.

👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🙏
Not many people on the streets that’s for sure

Europe in the 1950's was probably very poor after WW2
We recovered very fast actually

A traveling youtuber doesn't have to go to a warzone and be a reporter. It's dangerous and it's not their job .
