    Gotta love ZZ TOP! Saw them live 4 times. First time way back in 1973 they opened for Alice Cooper on the Billion Dollar Babies tour. The next three times as headliners. Each time amazing! 😎🎼🎶🎵🇨🇦🇨🇦

    Texas Pride. ZZ went to school with my brother in South Houston….all kinds of stories I could tell. In later years, settle in our little town of Katy, Texas. They would just pop-up and start jamming. Great fun!

    Greetz from Hamburg, Germany.
    Rockpalast = Rock Palace.
    WDR = West-Deutscher Rundfunk = West-German Broadcasting
    As you can guess from the name this was basically blues, rock'n'roll, or harder music.
    The "Rockpalast" was a series of live concerts, often broadcast completely uninterrrupted for the whole concert, including full audience participation. While many broadcasting stations called their concerts 'live' because they were RECORDED from a live performance but aired much later, the WDR "Rockpalast" actually often WAS directly broadcast live, absolutely no filters between recording and broadcasting. What happened, happened, no matter how much time it took, or how many encores the band decided to throw in.
    That's why some of the concerts had that raw, unpolished feel to them because no clean-up of the sound was possible (auto-tune hadn't existed yet, and many of the bands would have frowned on using such a 'cheat' themselves). You got what the mics picked up, period.
    The audience often was up close and personal with the bands as well. Rarely did any security barriers block the audience from the stage.
    They often allowed smaller, fairly unknown bands a chance as well.
    OK, agreed, ZZ Top was not a small act even then in 1980.

      Eduardo, I lived in Waco in 1977, and we could get it, if it was clear, at night, way out at the lake. It was so special to us! They played stuff our local stations would never. I still remember their call sign announcement, a woman’s voice saying “Ekke Erray Oh Kah, Juarez, Mexico.” They were saying XROK, which I knew, but I loved hearing the Spanish pronunciation. Good memories!

    Saw them many decades ago, great show. Guitarist Billy Gibbons taught Hendrix how to use a slide on his guitar. The drummer doesn’t have a beard but his name is Frank Beard. Fandango is the Album this song is on, listen to the whole album. You guys are great 👍

    (50 year anniversary last year)
    Time keeps on ticking...
    Going through a box of old ticket stubs not long ago.I was blessed. My first rock concert:
    May 19, 1973 (lol yeah, I'm old, but still above the dirt...)
    East Tennessee State University
    Rory Gallagher
    ZZ Top
    $4
    It was about two months before Tres Hombres came out. (Dusty Hill's 24th birthday, I came to find out on his passing) It was Festival Seating and I managed to get about 15 feet from mic center. Rory Gallagher was pure fire right out of the gate, and his band was phenomenal. (particularly Lou Martin on his electric piano) Rory was amazing to see play and I think that he had as much fun as anyone. Then, Billy Gibbons and the boys came out. Back when they were the most badass blues rock band that ever was. Straw hats, jeans, no beards (but Frank. lol), and BG in a white tshirt w/ pack of Marlboros rolled up in the sleeve(lol). Needless to say, Rory and Billy made a big impression on a 16 yr old. Blues rock, slide guitar nut ever since.
    RIP Rory, Rod, Lou, & Dusty. Thank You!
    Keep Rockin' Billy, Frank, & Gerry

    In addition to Z Z and SRV, y'all know who else is from TEXAS? 🇨🇱 Edgar Winter, Johnny Winter, and Janis Joplin! They all attended Port Arthur high school and when Janis was a senior they were all there at the same time! What a blues band that could have become! Out in west TEXAS 🇨🇱 we had Waylon Jennings, Buddy Holly, and Pantera! We give the world as much h music as we can! 🇨🇱💯😅🤣❤✌

    I saw them live back in the late 70s, I think it was the Deguelo tour. You would probably recognize songs from their breakthrough album Eliminator and the accompanying videos with the cool coupe and hot women on the songs Legs, Sharp Dressed Man or Gimme All Your Lovin. Any of those videos are fun, but before that they were a gritty (husky) Texas blues and boogie rock band as their first four albums are still my favorites, especially Tres Hombres (featuring the song LaGrange) and Fandango (featuring the song Tush). BTW, they are still around and the same three members. The word is a new album is coming out soon with some tracks leftover from guitarist Billy Gibbons soon to be released solo album.

    I've never seen them in concert. However I once sat behind Billie Gibbons in a Text Mex restaurant called Leo's in Houston Texas when I was 7 or 8 years old. No I didn't know it was him or who it was at the time. My dad told me who it was later cause I noticed people staring when he came into the restaurant. He had his beard hidden under his shirt and a hat on. It was obvious that everyone knew who he was when he walked in. I myself had no clue until my parents told me

    Those who don't list Billy Gibbons as one of the great guitarists haven't been listening! This is one of my all time favorites of theirs. What a 3 piece band makes you realize if the band is good or not because they all have to be good or the band doesn't work and they WORK!

    This cant get any more ironic. This version of this song w/Dusty out front is brutal. This is him and ZZ Top at their most filthy. If this dont move your head and feet, you need to go ahead and fall over because you're dead. Anyway, RIP to the great Dusty Hill..what run, cowboy. Thanks for a lifetime of great songs🤘

    Within a month later, she would be murdered by her Fan Club President.
