After years of hating the satin sheets opening, I remember being so happy to get a new opening featuring the cast again. But to this day I wish they would go back to a version of the Peabo Bryson theme.
Oh wow. Over 13 years since this opening. So many memories, storylines, and the characters that have come and gone, like the old Clint, Nathan Fillion, the original Todd, Kelly, Cristian, and Jessica, Cord, a young Tuc, and Andy. Wow.
I really liked Chris McKenna's portrays of Joey. I know they wanted to age the Joey character and replace him with Nathan Filion. especially since he started having sex with Dorian. I still see Chris on TV shows a lot so he continues to be an accomplished active actor.
I wonder if he would've lived longer had he stayed on the show? Some people seem to pass away right after a major change like the loss of a loved one, their home or their job...
I remember this like it was yesterday! I rewound it at least a dozen times I was so HAPPY to be done with that hated "Dove Bar" opening. If I remember, this was right around the time "The City" debuted so there were 2 cool new ABC themes to look forward to! :) Sadly, they had to take Todd's picture out like a week or 2 later as he "died"... thus igniting the Blair/Marty war still being waged today.
Susan Bedsow Horgan was the executive producer/show runner of One Life to Live at the time this opening sequence made its debut. Also at this time, the show was averaging a 4.5 rating (ranking 7th out of 11 soaps at the time).
All because the networks just assumed that the OJ Simpson murder trial was what everyone who watched daytime dramas was *more interested in* so the soaps got bum-rushed off the air and a massive number of viewers who didn't want to watch the so-called "trial of the century" just tuned out and never returned...
One Life to Live ranked 5th out of 10 soaps the week of November 20-24, 1995, with a 4.8/18, beating out As The World Turns’s 4.6/16 and Another World’s 3.2/11. In the key demo of Women 18-49, OLTL ranked 4th with a 3.8/25, beating out ATWT’s 2.8/18 and AW’s 2.5/16.
@tnaimpact I was actually about to turn 3 when this opening first appeared. I remember watching some episodes with my grandmother, before she passed on in December 2001.
@downwithapathy The ironic thing is he said his last lines the next day and appeared onscreen one last time on the 22nd. After being featured for 2 openings, they removed him in the November 28 episode's remixed opener. Never seen again for 8.5 months.
Debuted 13 years ago today as of November 20, 2008. They still are using this theme, but in a cheaply remixed format. I thought they would update on 13th anniversary of this theme song.
This portion of One Life To Live on ABC Daytime is brought to you by Tide. When It's gotta be clean, It's Gotta Be Tide and By Zest deodorant soap and body wash, You're Not Fully Clean Unless You're Zest-Fully Clean!!
Did they really say "This portion..." on ABC shows too? I remember them saying that on CBS's "Guiding Light" at the beginning, and over the ending theme "This has been _Guiding Light._ Jewelry provided by _Sotheby's._ Belts provided by _Georgio of Beverly Hills."_ 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
I'm not too familiar with this show aside from the theme song way back in the day but what is the differences between versions A and B though out the years?
@earlymid90schild Three years ago I read a very old summer article about the USO from the 1980s that placed her at an age of someone born in 1959. Most legal records claim her to be born in 1961, but a few sources at the time gave dates of 1960 or 1959.
This portion of One Life To Live on ABC Daytime is brought to you by Febreze,Breathe Happy and by JIF peanut butter, with its fresh roasted peanutty taste choosy moms choose JIF
I’ll admit, as a kid I used to watch this with my mom and actually liked it lol. I used to call the guy with the long hair the undertaker Wait IS THAT NATHAN FILLION?? Second edit: I’m watching this on November 20, 2024
That’s Ian Thornhart From Port Charles GH Spin-Off And He Was Also Zach Slater On All My Children And The Second Ridge Forrester On The Bold And The Beautiful With Roger Howarth Todd Manning
That was the first actor to play the role, Yorlin Madera. After he played the role for a few years, David Fumero took over and played the part until the show ended.
This portion of One Life To Live on ABC Daytime is brought to you by Pringles Potato Chips. Once you pop, you can't stop and by Dawn Dishwashing Liquid...A Drop of Dawn and Grease is Gone...Dawn Gets Grease Out Of The Way
You aged Kassie DePaiva by two years in your description, Carmaker. She was born in 1961 lol (on a side note, I'd be a happy girl if I looked like her at 50 :D).
@MrChicago891 None of them have ever featured all characters on the same day since November '91. I hope you are not are using this 15.5 year old VHS-quality opening as an example in comparing it against a full quality 2011 opening, as this one has superior orchestration, at least since a full orchestral version was added in August 1997. Most of you haven't heard full HD quality 1997-2001 & 2001-04 openings to hear the extra background instruments & vocalists as TH-cam doesn't convert them well.
@izzatluv Roger Howarth said in an interview in Soap Opera Digest that he hated playing Todd, I for one loved him playing that character...there's a scene he did with a talking cockatoo or a parrot, that was funny as hell.
Sorry, that site is so inaccurate & I wouldn't want a single soul to trust it. The guy who runs it, David Evan Smith, mislead me on a "September" 1997 set & made me end buying the same August version in the 9/29-30/97 episodes. It was actually updated in MID-October, not even September! So, because of that I'm missing one Bo opening from Q4 of 1997. Their AMC section is worse and VERY unreliable. Only there GH site is 100% right. I'm going to do my best to provide info on all opening versions.
I hated the way ABC gave all of their soaps the same studio packaging graphics (i.e. the black studio background w/ those stadium-like lights, blue, yellow, orane colors and what not) on all the intros of their soaps. And thanks to ABC for making a shitty jazzed-up version of the OLtL theme tunes and especially the GH theme tune.
Every soap has a theme that becomes its most notable theme and this is one of them
This is the theme I grew up on. It just screams 1990s.
Loved that Dorian was the first cast member of this opening!
Thank you SO much for putting this on! The very first opening for this song! I Love It!!!!
I totally remember when it came on like this I was like 6, but I remember because it stayed that way for a couple of years ❤️

And now over 13 years since this comment. Time is a cruel mistress.
Wow...the original Cristian, played by Yorlin Madera. As good of an actor as Jerry Ver Dorn is, Clint Ritchie will always be Clint Buchanan
I wonder if he would've lived longer had he stayed on the show? Some people seem to pass away right after a major change like the loss of a loved one, their home or their job...
@@themirrorsofmymindhe died from surgical complications so no
OMG!!!! HA!!!! I REMEMBERED THIS OPENING!! SO CLASSIC.
Thanks.

I remember this from way back when I was 5 or 6 years old. I grew up with this title sequence.
Times when people were beautiful

I don't think Y&R even averages that today... and they're #1
Not anymore..... I think. I could still be wrong.
All because the networks just assumed that the OJ Simpson murder trial was what everyone who watched daytime dramas was *more interested in* so the soaps got bum-rushed off the air and a massive number of viewers who didn't want to watch the so-called "trial of the century" just tuned out and never returned...

Aw, young David Vickers!
0:29 I Love Blair's Head Turns Dramatically & 0:14 I Love Kelly's Head Turns the Same as Blair @ 0:29
OLTL had such good looking men.
Nathan Fillion is so adorable!
Roger Howarth! The real tragedy of the satin sheets opening was not seeing his face in the opening credits until November '95. :D
This is the beginning of my Todd Manning 1995 playlist. :)
@tnaimpact I was actually about to turn 3 when this opening first appeared. I remember watching some episodes with my grandmother, before she passed on in December 2001.
Ahh the good ol days...
They need to bring it back
@RetroVideoFan thumps up to that because i was 5 yrs old too in 95!
Yeah i grew up on this show.....Wanna make something of it?
This was a great show and ABC can goto HELL for cancelling it!
One Life To Live The Daytime Soap Opera Of All Time Here On ABC
you say that about all the soaps on every video lol
@TrueTalkTV This was actually used for only two episodes, so it's the rarest common version. After Thanksgiving, he was removed.
So did I, thumbs up.
@downwithapathy The ironic thing is he said his last lines the next day and appeared onscreen one last time on the 22nd. After being featured for 2 openings, they removed him in the November 28 episode's remixed opener. Never seen again for 8.5 months.
Kassie De Paiva is that much older than Roger!? Wow I never would have guessed!
Debuted 13 years ago today as of November 20, 2008. They still are using this theme, but in a cheaply remixed format. I thought they would update on 13th anniversary of this theme song.
Yes that was Thorsten Kaye Ian From PC, Zack from AMC(last role), Patrick From OLTL, and Roger Howarth as Todd OLTL, now Paul ATWT.
Yeah
Looks infinitely better with short hair.
Currently, Thorsten Kaye plays Ridge from B&B while Roger Howarth brought his OLTL role Todd to GH but later played Franco and now plays Austin.
In order: Dorian, Clint, Joey, Kelly, Jessica, Cristian, Tina, Cord, David, Andy, Antonio, Carlotta, Todd, Blair, Max, Viki
Better than the Satin Sheets opening, but still not as good as the original tour of Llanview opening with Peabo Bryson.
That opening LOL. Patrick was not anyone to mess with.
What a great cast! Can we please get Roger Howarth back on this show!?

Exactly right. That guy only became motivated in sending me "info" after giving him GH and etc. videos. Now I feel I wasted a lot of time with him.

Best theme ...i was an another world watcher but i must say oltl was soooo good from 91 to 96 that i cheated!!!!!
I’ll admit, as a kid I used to watch this with my mom and actually liked it lol. I used to call the guy with the long hair the undertaker

I was three when my mom's was off this ..
Who can ever forget Todd lmao

Patrick Thornhart.
@megamanj2004X LMAO -- you are so right! People will NEVER learn to leave something alone that doesn't
need to be tampered with.
1.What date in OLTL's Tour of Llanview II Opening is Debuted & Ended?
2.What date in OLTL's Tour of Llanview II Bumpers is Debuted & Ended?
Christian looks like a teenager compared to recent episodes!

I can hear it perfectly, in the announcer's voice from that era...
James DePaiva was SO HOT. I miss him :(

No one knows or can know that, but ABC officials. It would very expensive for me to exactly know that. About maybe 30-40 times in 8 1/2 years.
What was the blonde character’s name? The 7th one at 19 seconds?
Krista Tesreau as the third Tina Lord Roberts.
80s version the best
anyone know what city this is? looks like philadelphia....
It is.

In fact everything there is wrong and even some FAKE versions are posted as genuine openings.
@RetroVideoFan oh!so what do u think of the new opening now? I think the old one opening is way better!

Worse them from the show, all the others were great.
Ah the good day of todd, what happened to him? Roger halworth
or something like that was his real name
*Howarth
