Love the idea, I have a question what happens to the polygons that are overlapping inside from the cubes or does Blender boolean those faces not seen? Do they get removed? Also would those extra polygons add performance issues with polygon count?

At 1:27 I've used the Remesh modifier. After applying that, the mesh becomes one solid mesh without any overlapping geometry inside :)
