    excellent video, I understand everything
    in Bronw's principles of language learning and teaching chapter 9 "functional syllabus" and "styles and registers" you didn't mention it on your "language competence" video.
    did you talk about those topics in any of your videos?
    and chapter number 10
    "domains and generalizations", "hypothesis and claims" "from theory to practice implicit and explicit models"

    hi thanks for this explanation. a concern, can we say that investigating learners' errors in SLA in relation to their L1 is a sociolinguistics issue?

    I took an exam 3 weeks ago and I'm not agree with the final mark.
    I would like to know if you can give me your opinion.
    I was asked these two questions: "contrastive analysis hypothesis" and "fuctional syllabus" that's all. can you help me?

      the questions are:
      1) What is Contrastive analysis hypothesis?
      2) what is functinal syllabus?
      my answers:
      1) Contrastive analysis hypothesis: It is the barrier from your first language system with the second language system. If there are similarities between L1 to L2, then the language will be easy to learn. If there are a great deal of difference between the two, then the language will be very difficult to learn. As a teacher, if we have any knowledge of our student's mother tongue, we will be able to predict their errors but not correct them. It's up to the teacher.
      6 degree of difficulty were developed:
      0- TRANSFER: Learner can easily transfer sounds and words without any difficulty. ex intelligent/inteligente
      1- coalescence: 2 item in the native language language become coalesced into essentially 1 item in the L2. ex his/her= su
      2-underdifferentiation: an item in the native language doesn't exist in the L2: auxiliaries do
      3-reinterpretation: an item that exist in the L1 is given a new shape or distribution in the L2. ex an English speaker learning french must learn a new distribution for nasalized vowels
      4-overdifferentiation: a new item entirely, bearing little if any similarity to the native language item, must be learned.
      5-split: 1 item in the L1 becomes 2 or more in the target language. ex verb to be/ser o estar
      2)Fuctional syllabus: It's the first step for beginner learner. They learn what we call "curriculum" what means:
      1) introducing self and others
      2) Exchanging of personal info
      3)how to spell someone's name
      4)giving commands
      5)asking or info
      This is the first step to get into a new language and develop language competences, learning strategies and social interaction within real life situation. In other words: this method helps the students to develop their "basic interpersonal language skills".

      I need to pass 3 final exams to become English school teacher, and this is one of them "Linguistic 3"
      this subject is all about chapter 8, 9 and 10 from "principles of language learning and teaching" by Douglas Brown.
      this subject belongs to the fourth year of my studies, the last one, and the English level for this year is proficient.
      The qualification marks in Argentina are from 0 (if you didn't write anything) to 10 (if you did everything correctly)
      my question is: if the best mark is 10, what is the punctuation of each question?
      my classmates who have already passed this subject told me the punctuation should be around 6 for contrastive analysis and 4 for functional syllabus, or even 7 to 3 because contrastive analysis is more important that functional syllabus. the teacher didn't give any punctuation.
      according what I wrote, what would be my mark for you?
      I wasn't given any evaluation criterion. I was told just I had 50 min to finish the exam, use 140 words or more for each question and try to write with my own words what I understood about each topic.
      they didn't mention anything about the vocabulary I should use, the points of each question or something specific they wanted I write.
      for you, what will be my final mark?
      if you have to discount some points, what will be the reason?
