Wow! We asked for campers and you’ve over-achieved. Another great ‘Patreon first’ benefit with great editing and very inspirational. Thanks all for sharing. Much appreciated!
I was smiling and sometimes crying watching this one. My late grandfather had a mk1 camper in the Ise Of Man. When we used to visit in the summer we’d argue about who could sleep in in it. It was only in the driveway lol. But as a kid that was still an adventure. Absolutely loved this one Jonny, thank you
Hi Jonny, what a fantastic camper and nice guy who owns it. This is just the kind of vehicle that makes us smile, forget Lamborghini, Ferrari etc.. this is quality..!!! Alex.
A charming heart-warming video with an interesting chap and his passion project. The stories behind people’s cars make for more interesting videos. It’s apparent that Jonny has a genuine interest and interviews with such a relaxed and compassionate style. Proud to be a Patreon supporter
Flipping heck beans on toast, camping, a cossie engine and a full on Woolarding you don’t get this on Harry’s Garage, TLBS giving us the content we never knew we wanted but so glad you have!
Welcome to The Late Bake Show, today it's a sleeper you can sleep in. You can give it beans and then have more beans. Once you've gone flat out, get your bed out. I'll shush now.
It really doesn't matter what anyone thinks about it, the owner has put their time, effort and money into creating something they want and I applaud that. Incidentally, I do think it's all kinds of cool!
I think this is quite possibly the coolest camper van I have ever seen. I grew up in & around Cosworths & I love camping so yes this is a dream vehicle ❤
I want to offer a comforting embrace to my fellow OCD afflicted, that were dying inside at the misaligned front bumper blades. No slight on the car, It's us not you!
What sort of monster doesnt shake the beans before opening them? Am I alone here? 😂 Seriously though, this little motor is the nuts, and a diamond of an owner to boot. Sweet video.
That ticks SO many boxes Jonny! Mk 1, Daytona Yellow? camper van and then you notice 1/4 bumpers wide arch wings, 6 clock dash and then the mechanics kick in, Cossy engine with all the bits. What an absolute gem and to think its been used regularly as a camper! Great video Jonny, put a beaming smile on my face.
Love it!!! As a man of a certain age i remember this doing the rounds in the mags back in the days when it was first built, unless someone else has a Cossie powered bright yellow campervan... 😍😀
Remember seeing this in Classic Ford Magazine many years ago. I love an Escort van, had them for years. Currently restoring an Australian Mk2 Van that will eventually be our holiday camper.
i remember really enjoying the feature on this one in classic ford magazine back in the day when it was just built.......mega cool motor that has stood the test of time really well....... great video,....thanks for sharing....
at 19:41 surely you meant 'Welcome to the Late Bake Show' you'd think after Richards endless name mangles one of them would have stuck 😆 cracking episode and a thoroughly sound van and bloke, this is the sleeper to end all sleepers.
Nice little van, and yes escorts always looked well in that yellow. Last time I looked and taking nothing away from a 2 litre cossie, Simon Robbins held the record in a small Fiat camper. The record could have been broken since, but it acheved in the region of 145 + mph. Newer of course and even had a porta potti too. I dont know if he still has it, but was building Campervans up to about two years ago. You can see his and his wifes latest project on the Ship Happens channel. P.S. I dont personally know the chap, only that I follow the channel. He was a mechanic before his current enterprise.
I've seen this too, there's a youtube video of the record run th-cam.com/video/MM6RIEs2YA8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=6wrMS6hfrZsaw3-v It was built when they were operating as creation campers but the video is on the practical motorhomes channel, according to google it still holds the top speed record at 141mph
Thanks Jonny, I’ve spent the weekend picking rust and filler out of my rotten VW T4 camper conversion and had been losing faith - this put a smile back on my face! Right, back to the angle grinder!
I had one of these back in the early 90's, totally stock 1300, had no drivers floor & rotted out sills, but got it back on the road in a month! Mine was a 1971 with a fold out rear tent (you had to leave the rear doors open to deploy the tent & get the bed down) was great fun & toured the west country & new forest with it. I planned to replace the tired 1300 with a 2.0 pinto, but ended up swapping it for a 2.8 injection Capri, wish I still had it, as Mk1 escort prices are truly mad now!
This is badass..... I actually met Daryl in late 99 or 2000 when his other mk1 cosworth was being photographed for Classic Ford in Mansfield on the remains of the wharf. That car was immaculate, and also done properly. Can't wait to see it in the wild...
I love this camper. I remember when i started my all cosworth powered group on Facebook and found some pictures of this stunner and posted them on my group. Its wicked to see the owner and creator of this beast. I love it. Hats off to the owner. Thanks dor sharing Johnny i will be sharing this on my group tonight. Anyone got anyone like this feel free to pop it on my group. 😊
I'm all for people doing what they want especially with oldies. Sometimes you have to build what the automakers won't touch (or if they ask the price of a brick and mortar 🏡 ). PS: The yellow everywhere is just good old fun & I'm sure your guest gets thumbs up everywhere he goes. Thanks for sharing.
This needs a classic camper club… imagine all these camper conversions turning up at a camp site. The whole imagination and ingenuity put into them would keep you busy for days!
we have a VW T5 (less of a classic yet) but have been to loads of van meets where there are so many weird an wonderful early camper conversions and there is a club for these cars, perhaps one day ill get to see the Escort in the flesh.
This car is such a contradiction it's brilliant! It's the little things like the classic squeaky cupboards and the rattles from the stuff in the those cupboards. Then you realise there's a 2 litre powerhouse under your right foot to play with. That little 'Bathroom door' slide bolt on the top of the back door had me really smiling.
Growing up working on cars my uncle had one of these vans for his business. An absolute workhorse. This one is a whole next level. The details and the power is nuts. Great video and content as usual.
Loved it my dad had 3 of these vans when I was groing up it was also the first vehicle I drove on a long trip across Ireland when I was 16 over 40 years ago great memories thanks for the upload.
Great stuff as per mate. A big thank you for helping the lads out at Auto Funk with their restoration. I think these guys really appreciate your help with your influence on putting them on the map.
I hesitated watching this episode. Why would i want to watch anything about a camper? But, as usual, the vehicle and the excellent work by the host made it interesting and a pleasure. Thanks, Johnny.
I spent a little time in a Mk1 Escort van, 1.3, that had driven around Australia. It was purchased from the chap who lived in Paul Robinsons house on the Ramsey Street external set for Neighbours. Still very much a favourite the mk1.
Oh man, Johnny, thanks for featuring Darryl and his fantastic Escort - it IS the absolute bomb! If you’re going out into the countryside to enjoy nature you’re going to be on brilliant roads, but typical campers are not driving machines. With this beauty (YAY yellow!) you get your cake and eat it too! My personal solution to the same problem is my ‘‘91 Volvo 240 wagon with a warmed up VW TDI engine and good suspension mods. All the benefits of the classic Swedish Brick with room to sleep, but much faster and WAY better mpg!
As a 60s kid, if traders didn't use Bedford Beagles, they had 7cwt Escorts like this. Great conversion, and the engine sounds very good. I like its traditional mustard yellow paint. I'm six years old and waiting for the school bus again!
I still have the December 2001 Classic Ford magazine that this Camper was featured in. Carry on Camping, it was titled. There was another one featured from Ireland years later, with a BDA under the bonnet, Retro Ford Magazine. As for the record for fastest camper van, well another You tube Channel is currently building a record contender.
I am sure you don't here this very often but... May I please touch your... old van? Very, very cool. Many years ago I was on my way to North Wales from the West Midlands. Though I cannot remember why I ended up looking at it, the driver of an Escort van of this vintage, whose kids were sitting in the back, lifted his bonnet to show me the engine. He had rebuilt the engine, perhaps reconfigured is a better word, and he'd moved the radiator and a few other significant engine components, which he took pride in telling me while telling me he was a professional mechanic. This takes me back about 30 or 35 years. Thanks, both.
Amazing car, full respect to someone who restores something quirky to better than original. Unfortunately off the top pf my head I suspect there are some CW Kombi campers with worked 911 motors that would be faster, at least in a straight line.
What a handsome car / camper! Brings back happy memories of our family car way back, a white mk1 escort estate, many fond memories of day trips and family holidays and we even slept in it a few times during camping trips.
Leave it to Jonny to keep you interested in some old aggressively yellow 300-horsepower camper van conversion for 30 minutes. This thing is seriously soooooo cool.
I go camping in my V8 Avenger wagon quite often. It's not a full on camper but the seats have a special sleeping mode that gives you over 2 meters of bed space, enough room for a double mattress, then we have a tent on the back like this one.
For me, that's one of the best cars seen on this channel. My first car (on the road) was a Ford Escort Mk1 Van, 8CWT and 1300cc. I remember seeing the camper conversions (but I didn't want one) so this video brought back so many memories
The Honda Express on the back is magic. I had one in the late '90s also in yellow it took 90p to fill up the tank. I was driving Mk1 Escorts too at the time but it never occured to me to marry the two together.
Hi Jonny, another excellent find in the Ford Escort world. All of the good gear in this little van. Rose joints in a camper, I’m thinking of an MST MK1 Van powering through the hills in Wales. Stuart Australia 🇦🇺
The Mark 1 is my favorite car. Dad had a brown one when I was a wee lad. Great build. The brown and orange of the pop up part reminded me of the rollerblind in our kitchen 😂😂
This man living his best life. I'm jealous ! Thank you to the wife for tolerating this, otherwise we would not able to gaze at this beautiful creation.
My friends actually hold the Guiness world record for the fastest camper van at 141.3 mph. It was a Fiat a Fiat Doblo but alas isn't in existence anymore......
What a riot Jonny ! Back in the '70's l had a mini pickup with a1300 engine and gearbox from a Austin 1300 so with the gearbox ratio set up for 12"" wheels it went like stink ! So we drove from Newton Abbot to pick up an up right piano from Exeter. So Jo's pregnant with Emma and has our 4 year old in her lap (couldn't do that today!) We tied the piano in the back and drove back to Newton . We obviously had to go up Telegraph and so l gunned the mini. We were easily doing 80 + and easily passed a Triumph Stag . It was bad enough when the driver saw the front of the mini but wnen he saw the piano in the back his jaw literally dropped into his lap ! It easily ex eeded 100 mph ! The poor little engine only lasted 6 months but what a hoot ! Thanks Jonny
Another brilliant esipode there Jonny. Your channel has really come on in leaps and bounds with all the diverse subjects you cover. I don't watch TV anymore thanks in part to You Tube. I can watch programs about what I like, when I like and your channel is one that worth coming back to time and again. Thanks mate, and keep up the good work, we really do appreciate your hard work and dedication......
I love this episode. Full of nostalgia. Please please, more 70's/80's vehicles. I'm grinning right now about the possibilities! 😀 Thanks for another great video. 👍
What a fun little camper and car! Something to actually enjoy the drive to the destination so that the journey is as much fun as wherever one's going. He mentioned having gone to France and Belgium, but this is one of those campers that would happily tackle any of the most gruelling passes anywhere in the Alps and have fun doing so! The interesting part being that those rear tents have come back into being and there is a plethora of them on online shopping sites. This episode, or should I say this car, has something to please all kinds of vehicle interest groups.
I remember seeing this on the classic Ford video years ago; great to see it’s still going! My dad has a nimbus he’ll hopefully put together some time soon 🤞 Great car
Dream come true that perfect little camper! I’m planning a similar idea with my FJ Cruiser. Pop up with panoramic roof, rear kitchen, sleep inside or in pop up.
I remember this from the Classic Ford Shows at Santa Pod, glad it’s still about! My parents briefly owned one of these Mk1 Escort Campervans too, they’re quirky little things 😅
What a fantastic camper, I've never knew ford built these. You want one of these Jonny you know you do, would be great if you did a series building one of these.
Wow! We asked for campers and you’ve over-achieved. Another great ‘Patreon first’ benefit with great editing and very inspirational. Thanks all for sharing. Much appreciated!

The best of all worlds and such a humble guy
Love it ❤️🏴😎
Hi Jonny, what a fantastic camper and nice guy who owns it. This is just the kind of vehicle that makes us smile, forget Lamborghini, Ferrari etc.. this is quality..!!! Alex.
🤘🏽 Carry on Camping
Yerp I agree. I'm more interested in cars like this than super cars. I love this van it's sooooo coooool.
I'd take any Cosworth
over a Lamborghini ✊🇬🇧.😂
Especially with a motorbike on the back!!!

What a great vehicle,I have a caravan and motorcycles.don’t fancy a large motorhome with a motorcycle rack this guys vehicle is perfect 😎👍
Flipping heck beans on toast, camping, a cossie engine and a full on Woolarding you don’t get this on Harry’s Garage, TLBS giving us the content we never knew we wanted but so glad you have!
I knew it was going to be a good one when he pulled a massive, borderline obscene, Full Frontal Woolard (FFW) at the start.
@@duncanhamilton5841 FFW.....hahahaha pmsl here
A full Woolard in the first minute, that’s what Disney calls fan service
Just outside Nottingham?
Basically 🤣
until then, see you then

Welcome to The Late Bake Show, today it's a sleeper you can sleep in. You can give it beans and then have more beans. Once you've gone flat out, get your bed out. I'll shush now.
You beat me to it 😂
A tiny RV with massive revs!!
It really doesn't matter what anyone thinks about it, the owner has put their time, effort and money into creating something they want and I applaud that. Incidentally, I do think it's all kinds of cool!
Well said
Loved that! “It can pick its skirt up” - great expression!
Imagine attending a track day. Everyone else sets up their campers and offloads their track tools. And you're just racing your camper 🤣
I think this is quite possibly the coolest camper van I have ever seen. I grew up in & around Cosworths & I love camping so yes this is a dream vehicle ❤
We've got his brother - 239M! Same colour and still with original 1300 crossbow...not quite as fast or as well travelled as this but makes folk smile.
I remember seeing some of the build photos. Looked good 👍
Sitting down and chatting with the owner is something you should do more of. 🙌
Have you not seen hundreds of the other videos 😅
As soon as you pulled off the perfect full Woollard, within the first minutes, I knew this was going to be epic. Superb Escort.
I want to offer a comforting embrace to my fellow OCD afflicted, that were dying inside at the misaligned front bumper blades.
No slight on the car, It's us not you!
They all do that sir!
That’s got to be one of the very, very coolest cars that you ever featured, Jonny. It’s just brilliant!
Watching Johnny review a crazy camper while sitting outside my tent camping having a BBQ and cider in hand. Life doesn't get any better
👌🏾
I absolutely love this. There's not a single thing about it that disappoints. What a joyful thing!
What sort of monster doesnt shake the beans before opening them? Am I alone here? 😂

Sweet video.

Stone Cold 🥶🥶🥶 Not forgetting the Moped😍
I had an escort van here in Australia and the gearbox destroyed itself driving up the Bruce highway. 😂

That is so cool. As a campervan owner and previous Cosworth & RS Escort owner this is an inspired creation!
Thanks Jonny, I’ve spent the weekend picking rust and filler out of my rotten VW T4 camper conversion and had been losing faith - this put a smile back on my face! Right, back to the angle grinder!
Quality Woollard-ing!! (And you thought we wouldn’t notice?!) Great video, great owner and a cracking story behind it all.
Remember this back in early 2000s …sporting escort owners club..I had orange bubble arched mk1..N/A cosworh..you car still looks great..
What a lovely guy, smiled all the way through this.
Talented and understated. That's the way we like it on TLBS.

What a car. Thanks for sharing and showing. Awesome dude(s) as well!
Literally grinning ear to ear watching this, Thanks Jonny and Daryl for sharing this.

The world’s fastest motor home is clocked at 141mph.

This episode, or should I say this car, has something to please all kinds of vehicle interest groups.
Absolutely fantastic episode Jonny! What an amazing camper and Daryl what a thoroughly nice guy!
I remember seeing this on the classic Ford video years ago; great to see it’s still going! My dad has a nimbus he’ll hopefully put together some time soon 🤞
Great car
This video just made me smile the whole way through, great to see survivors like this still going. Thanks Jonny.😊
Dream come true that perfect little camper! I’m planning a similar idea with my FJ Cruiser. Pop up with panoramic roof, rear kitchen, sleep inside or in pop up.
I’m getting my first camper in July!! My camper will be based on the Vauxhall Combo Life Electric with the Wheelhome Vikenze III-e camper conversion.
That's very much of it's era! Love it!
Very proud to see another Nottingham lad on TH-cam :)
Quintessential Late Brake Show content 😃 loving it 👌
I remember this from the Classic Ford Shows at Santa Pod, glad it’s still about! My parents briefly owned one of these Mk1 Escort Campervans too, they’re quirky little things 😅
What a fantastic camper, I've never knew ford built these. You want one of these Jonny you know you do, would be great if you did a series building one of these.
Basically from Nottingham 😃 An absolutely brilliant car and video!
