A bit of a fun video today - I made authentic medieval pottage (unfortunately not on an authentic medieval stove but alas my budget doesn't stretch that far!)
I have always been fascinated with how medieval people lived their every day lives, and what experiences that would incur. So, in this video I experience one of a peasants most common meals using only authentic ingredients that were available at the time...along with a history lesson!
Enjoy!

I love gabbage
Gabbage!!?
@@AlexTheHistoryGuy Too much Gabbage can rot your spellchecker - it's a fact!
Very interesting. I always wondered what pottage is, now I know. May I ask where you filmed this please?
I aim to inform!
Well there are over 30 locations in the video in total haha - what footage are you referring to? I made the meal in my home.
Hey Alex 😊 great informative and interesting skit .❤ If only Baldric had been available for ❤a cameo 😮😅
A skit?? This was supposed to be a serious documentary about medieval food! 😆😆
@@AlexTheHistoryGuy sorry no offence meant Alex wrong choice of word 😔 xx
Haha I get what you mean. Tony Robinson would be a very welcome guest on my channel 😆
@@AlexTheHistoryGuy he is a very engaging and funny history buff much like yourself Alex ☆☆
So, without the Romans, we'd pretty much just have turnips and peas!
Hahaha well I'd assume they would find their way to Britain eventually but yes, the Roman empire certainly helped introduce a lot of new things en masse.
The native Britons already had a lot of trade networks in place and a good understanding of the wider world by the Iron Age, but the blanket occupancy of a single ruling power will always help improve trade and imports.
😂 we'd have slugs and snails and puppy dogs tails 😊
No potatoes?
Nope, potatoes were brought over from America post-1521. Sweet potatoes and swede as well.
@@AlexTheHistoryGuy good info thx
Potatoes are from Peru, chungos is a soup made with foot crush over night left to freeze potatoes. Not until Francisco Pizarro conquered the Inca empire, potatoes were not enjoyed by Europeans.
You need a bigger pot!
