Was surprised re. the same-sex blessings. But just because I don't fully understand the reasons behind it, nor have great inclinations nor feelings to accept it just in respect to the actual doctrine, doesn't mean I can't in my free-will choices accept it on the basis of adherence to religion and faith. We must remember that the Holy Spirit assists the Magisterium, and that the pope is daily striving in such matters: it is his job and occupation.
As a person of an intellectual bent, sometimes my articulations accidentally upset ppl who aren't so intellectually oriented. What I've learnt is that it is not only a matter of being right in terms of intellectual truth, but also a matter of doing things in a correct way, often in a way enthused with kindness. This whole fiasco could have perhaps been better handled if there had been a greater focus on being sensitive to those hostile to the teaching. For example, if it was changed to a blessing of friendships of a group of people, which could be between best friends, perhaps the Church would on the whole have been more receptive. True friendship never includes doing harm, such as unchaste things. And the film Casablanca taught us that love sometimes means to leave someone. We also need to realise that dark forces can make the papacy's job quite difficult.
@@publicdomainglasspebble9700The fiasco could also have been averted by changing “blessing of couples” to “blessing of individuals in irregular relationships.” That way priests would be encouraged to pray with these couples but bless each person individually, not as a pair. However, that is NOT what FS is about. It requires priests to have one intention (of blessing individuals) while using gestures that express another intention (blessing a relationship). The Pope did not change Church teaching but has changed Church practice in a way that is causing confusion and misunderstanding. The Holy Spirit will protect Church teaching, but Popes can still make errors in judgement re. Church discipline and practice that others have to clean up later.
Just wondering whether Church discipline is in fact an extension, and a part of, the Magisterium's teaching. Sometimes things can be taught through practices, eg. Sacred Tradition. Not sure what is the answer to this.
We can think of the Pope's direction as a 'work in progress'. Perhaps not perfect, and perhaps requiring improvement, but perhaps an important start on an issue that needs to be addressed sooner rather than later. And he might end up being the one who irons out any problems that might presently exist in it.
It would seem that the pope can also make errors in Church teaching, because Pope Francis has changed the teaching on the death penalty such that there is an implication that the Church was wrong in the past regarding such matters. Assistance from the Holy Spirit doesn't mean to protect absolutely from error. And probably the pope receives aid from the Holy Spirit in his decisions re. discipline & practices.
More than one relationship can exist in same-sex couples: a wrong sexual relationship, & a valid friendship. If the blessings make clear that it is solely the friendship being blessed, could be okay.
As a conservative Lutheran I am praying for faithful Catholics in this troubling time.

I was thinking the same thing! Then that led me to think about other saints, like st Padro Pio, and Bishop Sheen, what would they say about this! St Padro Pio always defended the Holy Father, even when he was being reprimanded himself. But he also could read people like a book, he had a gift to see the truth of people's hearts and motivation.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation not only grants the actual grace to repent, it also forgives the sin, and restores the merits of good works obliterated by sin, thus placing the soul back into the state of grace. It's a good sacrament, more powerful than same-sex blessing. There's no need for FS at all.

They had invented with Fiducia supplicants a new "product" (for new "customers"), the "spontaneous blessings" vs "liturgic blessings"...The new service only would last "about 10 or 15 seconds"...Now we have different levels of blessings...

You talk about misinterpretation, because I guess that you think that you interpretate it correctly. Catholics must talk and not be silenced because these are very disturbing times with a lot of changes of the civil society, the Church is not in its best moment, and we can bite the dust with a few more little changes like that one. Church will survive anyway, but we must discuss these changes. FS is a big change, it wasn't submitted to consultation, and was released in a record time since Fernández designation.

The same-sex couple ‘blessing’ causes a number of questions.
What is a homosexual couple seeking by asking for a blessing?
What is the Church offering in response?
What is the Holy Spirit called for and what is exactly being blessed?
What is a spiritual purpose of such a ‘blessing’ and what sort of a particular help it intends to provide?
Love and acceptance can make miracles of soul transformation, and Pope Francis' vision on the same-sex unions seems to be about love and acceptance. Yet, the same-sex couple blessing would make sense if the Church dumps viewing the same-sex relationship per ser as a sin. Without that, such a 'blessing' appears conflicting and self-contradictory.

The TRICK of this document is that it equates homosexual couples to heterosexual couples.
Holy God determined by creation, natural law and biology that only a man and a woman can be married. A priest cannot bless that which God refuses to bless.

With due respect to Cardinal Fernandez his 5 page clarification is true that it’s not a clarification but more confusion about this Fiducia Supplicans document. The Blessed Virgin Mary said that His Son’s Church is full of wolves as lambs.She said that the ship is in shipwreck and splitting into two.
If they are condoning same sex couples, will they soon condone the homosexuality within the church that has completely broken our hearts.
Why the debate? No blessing for homosexuality according to the Bible.

I think Vatican tried to satisfied the already German bishops producing this document and avoid their split with the Church. But on the other side as Fernandez so Francis have underestimated the church in Africa, Poland, Hungary, Kazachstan, Peru, Brasil and Ukraine hoping they can somehow get out with all their twisted explanations on that document.I myself as many people I know was considering to return to this Church after years of other experiences in the Evangelical movement. The only true pastoral blessing is to teach those couple God's truth and to help them to get out of a sin that may cost their lives, eternal lives! There is no patting on the shoulders as if nothing wrong they commit and God in some new sentiments would bless them anyway!
Remember this is not affecting only “priests”, Deacons also will be asked for blessings. The problem is more widespread.
There is no confusion unless some of you are persistent to keeping on confusing. If ordinary Catholics like my self, is not confused, why are you? You, some priest or you who are leading this program you are the source of confusion. Start to act like Catholics should! Unite, don't divide!

Everybody needs a blessing not all actions get to be blessed. Everyone likes it when people feel positive about them. Even a sneeze merits a blessing. Only God can give the blessing ultimately!
First of all, a couple in an “irregular/homosexual” relationship doesn’t even THINK they’re committing sin, so why bless someone who doesn’t plan to change? I suggest that they attend RCIA first. If after that, they decide to change their way of life, THEN bless them. Problem solved.

A priest can certainly pray with these couples then bless them as individuals. According to FS that’s supposed to be their intention, so the gestures should match that intention. Pope Francis must rescind the Fiducia Supplicans to avoid confusions and scandal in the Catholic Church. Blessing of same sex union defies canon law which is not the sacrament introduced by Jesus Christ. May the Holy Spirit govern the mind of our Pope.

That's one way of looking at it. Unfortunately, that's how the greater society looks at it, especially the gay community. They think the Church has given them the right to get married. Just wait till they start "demanding" this right. There'll be a flurry of lawsuits if one or two partnership is denied this "right."
As a lifelong Catholic, I am very sorry to say that Pope Francis has caused much confusion and failed to uphold the one true holy apostolic church as given to us by Our Lord Jesus. His mission should be to uphold the teachings of the church and not give his personal political and cultural opinions under the guise of a Synod. I think he should retire.

If FS cannot be rescineded, it should be done NOT by ordained clergy but by Extraordinary Ministers, as in, EMHC of holy communion. Outside the church's premises, of course, and no sign of the cross or invocation of the Blessed Trinity.
