  • Portuguese Cod Pataniscas 🇵🇹 Easy, Fast and Irresistible! These Portuguese cod fritters (or Pataniscas de Bacalhau) are a traditional Portuguese recipe that knows no borders.     Portuguese Cod Pataniscas
    🛒 Ingredients (18 units approx.):
    🔸 300 g desalted or salt cod (10.7 oz)
    🔹 2 eggs L
    🔸 120 g all-purpose flour (¾ cup)
    🔹 150 ml water (½ cup)
    🔸 1 tsp baking powder
    🔹 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
    🔸 ½ onion
    🔹 A little white pepper
    🔸 A pinch of salt
    🔹 Oil for frying
    🍳 Directions:
    1️⃣ Remove the skin from the cod and crumble it with your hands into small pieces. Set aside.
    2️⃣ Chop the onion very finely. Do the same with the parsley.
    3️⃣ In a bowl, beat the eggs. Add the cod, onion, parsley, pepper and a pinch of salt. Mix everything very well.
    4️⃣ Incorporate the flour and water in batches. When everything is well integrated, add the baking powder and mix again.
    5️⃣ Heat in a frying pan plenty of oil. Add spoonfuls of dough (4 or 5). Cook on both sides until golden brown.
    6️⃣ Place them on a plate with absorbent paper to remove excess oil.
    7️⃣ Sprinkle a pinch of salt over the cod pataniscas when serving. Enjoy them freshly made.
    👌 Notes for making the recipe for Pataniscas de Bacalhau or Portuguese Cod Fritters:
    🌿There is no exact recipe for pataniscas. Some people add some chopped garlic clove, others prefer to cook the cod before and use the cooking water for the dough. There are also versions in which they add beer instead of water or use baking flour (which already contains chemical yeast).
    🌿 They can be eaten as an appetizer, starter or main course accompanied by "arroz de feijão" (rice with beans).
