  • This track off of Theo's newest album - "Modern Johnny Sings: Songs in the Age of Vibe" is a wonderful example of Theo's storytelling ability.
Something even more incredible happens when Theo makes way for an extended keyboard solo by Lee Pardini. It starts off light and sweet but then escalates into an absolute barn burner by the end. The crowd goes absolutely crazy, and the solo is so incredible the band has to stop and regroup for a second before continuing.
    Personnel:
    Theo Katzman - Guitar, Vocals
    Joe Dart - Bass
    Trevor Menear - Guitar
    Lee Pardini - Keys
    Jordan Rose - Drums
Recorded LIVE at the 1904 Music Hall, Jacksonville, FL on Valentine's day, February 14th, 2020.

Lee Pardini solo - the greatest keyboard solo of all time. You have no idea how thrilled I am to find this incredible document of Lee’s ability.

I know right?! I knew he could play, but the melodic sense in that solo is just insane. I had the immense pleasure of chatting with him and Joe Dart over a beer after the show and let him know just that. Joe's comment was "I couldn't agree more" so apparently we're not the only ones enamored with Lee's abilities.

Lee's solo is terrific, absolutely. But the greatest ever, not so. For starters listen to McCoy Tyner's solo on John Coltrane's My Favorite Things. Also listen to Keith Jarrett on Charles Lloyd's Forrest Flower album. Just saying. Rock on...

@@MrPhillyguy Coltrane's "Things" was the first time I actually "got" a jazz tune. I'm sure that's a similar story to many other folks too considering how popular it was in its day. And, yes, the solo on that is at once super high concept and extremely melodic -- which is one thing I love about Lee's work on the record and in these live sets.
I'm Not familiar with Jarrett but I've got some homework for this evening, so thanks!

@@almostfreebass9105 well, I saw Theo live last night at the Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis. It was, without question, one of the best concerts I have EVER seen. Utterly amazing. Wife and can't stop gushing about the quality of the musicianship and professionalism. And Lee was just great. What a groove he had. I hope you enjoy listening to Keith Jarrett.

@@MrPhillyguy So glad to hear we're not the only couple that was absolutely floored by this concert (that's my wife running the camera for these vids) . I always feel like maybe I'm shortchanging the other concerts I've been to, but it was just such a wonderful evening I can't help it.
And WOAH Keith Jarrett with Jack DeJohnette on drums is just incredible: th-cam.com/video/qOGqAvElCAs/w-d-xo.html

My ex-girlfriend had two cats with me: Jerry and Lily. I didn't really want cats, but I was willing to accept them.
She used to joke that Jerry was 'her cat' and that Lily was mine.
Lily was a bit of a runt and a troublemaker and had a tendency to drive me a bit crazy.
One day, Lily began shrieking and had a sudden limp. We freaked out and took her straight to the emergency vet. Apparently she had a blood clot, which cut off circulation to her leg (hence the limp). The vet said that the prognosis was exceedingly negative and they'd have to put her down to put her out of her misery. We both cried as we said our final goodbye to a heavily sedated Lily, wrapped in a blanket, holding her little paw.
These lyrics really hit me in a way that was probably not intended.
    "Lily's a punk.
    She don't give a funk.
She don't make a scene, she just d oes what she wants.
And speaking of which, I'm catching her bug and it's making me sick because I've fallen in love."
Anyway - thanks for the lovely song! It really moved me emotionally. :)

Every time you think it’s hit its climax they manage to find another level to ratchet up to. Unbelievable performance.

And if you watch the other performers' reactions it was pretty clear they kept expecting Lee to wrap it up but then he somehow finds another gear and just gets more and more intense. I've seen his solos from other performances and this one just has something special that the others don't.
