Thank you very much for making this video. I just installed the new lithium battery in a Club Car yesterday - got everything done in one day, and so far so good. There is no way I could have done the install without this video! Too many small details that would have me forever to figure out without the video. Good Job.
I thought I would let everyone know that if you have recently bought an ECO Battery 51v/105ah kit for the Club Car Precedent, you will need to connect the black/yellow canbus port coming off your charger into the matching port coming off your communication port. My charger wasn’t working and after contacting EcoBattery, they told me of this new change on the new kits. I plugged it in and it charged like a champ. EcoBattery is getting ready to send out the upgraded notices to their dealers.
They released this feature shortly after this video was posted. They have like 5 new features releasing over the next two months, so I'll have to redo all of these installation videos. More changes coming. I actually attempted to put this info in text on the videos, but TH-cam does not offer this feature.
@@PalmettoBatteryPros I used your video to do my install. It’s the best video by far. I couldn’t have done it without your video. Looking forward to seeing the updated video with the new features. Do you have a video on installing a second 51/105 Eco Battery?
I agree 100%. Just finished my install today. This is the best video. I especially appreciated the detail you showed on the 12 volt orange wire to the key switch and unhooking the the yellow connectors (for the lights) and hooking it up to the 48v to 12v convertor. I had NO idea where the negative for the lights were until I saw that. All went well until I tried to charge the battery. After seeing Doug's comment the other day, I guessed (too dark to see tonight) and hooked up one can connector from each the charger and the SOC cable. It works now, so I'm happy.
@@farmereboo I’m glad it helped. I spent a couple hours in disconnecting everything, hooking it back up, etc. etc. very frustrating. The online dealer I purchased from weren’t able to help and apparently didn’t know about connecting the cam connector. They thought my battery was fully charged and the gauge was faulty. That’s when I called Eco Battery and within 5 minutes they diagnosed and fixed the problem. I didn’t want anyone else to go through the frustration I went through.
@@PalmettoBatteryPros I just purchased this battery about a week ago and your video was very helpful, thank you. My battery has a serial number that indicates a Dec 2022 manufacture. I guess I do not have the features noted by Doug above, as I did not have his issue. 1) am I missing any new features? 2) is it possible for an end user to update firmware that might address bugs and efficiencies?
I just bought the Eco Battery 51v kit for my 2015 6 passenger Club Car Precedent. You skipped over connecting the red and black wires for the headlight to the 12v converter. Do you need to put metal ring connectors on them before connecting them to the 12v converter, or do just strip the wires and connect them. My kit should be arriving soon so just wanted to make sure I had everything to complete the install. Thanks for such an excellent clear installation video. This will make it so much easier to install my kit.
@@greenROB281 I wound up following the advice of Palmetto Battery Pros and installed a fuse block so I could install additional accessories later. On a side note, we take our 7 kids on regular rides on the miles of trails we have on our property. There are many steep hills. Previously, our lead acid batteries could barely make it back home and many times we had some of the older boys get out and push us up the hills. Now with the new Eco Battery, we zip right up the hills with no problems at all. I even tried stopping on the hill and then starting back up. It was not a problem at all. When we get back home, we still have over 80% battery life left. These batteries are amazing.
Great video. Did you need to modify any of the wires behind the run/tow panel in conjunction with the obc? Or did removing the old charge port harness take care of it?
You can surely route them back to the controller and disconnect at the B-, this is how we do the installation now. Cutting and capping would be the easiest and least time consuming way, but disconnecting is surely the best way.
Any chance you can do a video on the 72 volt version of the Precedent Eco battery??? I have seen one video IIRC but for some reason people just aren't showing installs of the higher volt batteries. Thinking I want to step up to 72v soon.
I recommend doing it on anything older than a 2010. One brand told me to try it without bypassing and bypass if needed for cart operation. I don't have an exact answer on which year models its required, so I just bypass all the older carts.
I just purchased my first Golfcart - a 2009 EZGO RXV with 48v lead acid/flooded and need to do this. as an old electrical engineer this should be no problem, installed 15KWh of LifePo4 already for my solar. Question is if I already have 12v ports for lights and such do I need to get the 12v converter to replace the one that should already be in my cart?
I purchased a battery from 48 105ah lithium and am attempting conversion myself. In 2013 clubcar precedent I was told I could use existing club car lead acid charger. Installed batteries. It worked fine. Plugged in charger over night. Did not work next day. The existing voltage meter shows power regardless of key on or off. I have checked all the fuses I. Can find. 1 in battery compartment and 2 behind controller panel. I have replaced solenoid- same problem.😢 I reinstalled the original batteries and same problem excisted. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
Have you had any issues with heat when you are running the charger and the seat/lid is down in the normal position? I just finished my install and started the first full charge. About 1 1/2 hours later when I lifted the seat up to look into the battery box I noticed it was really hot inside the box. I ended up propping open the seat to let the heat out while the first charge continues.
I am doing the install now - I have a 6 seater and the forward/reverse switch is installed on the dash where you installed the voltage meter. Where is another good spot you would recommend to install it?
Is it necessary to use the 12 volt converter that comes with the battery? I assume my 2021 precedent already has a built in conversion to run my stock headlights.
Was this install on a cart that originally had 4 12volt batteries, or 6 8volt batteries? Does the through hole eco battery work on either setup, or does one take the "skinny eco battery?
Is there room for 2 of them in a club car ....I found that you can connect two in parallel electrically...but will they both fit into the cart? This is for increased mileage and a possible storage system for solar backup.
I'm just curious why you didn't do obc bypass in this video?? Or is it essentially bypassed by replacing the charge port and going direct to the onboard charger?? I love the videos. Very informative. I've been researching lithium upgrade for my precedent. I'm torn between ECO and Bolt energy.. Any advice on better option is appreciated..
Bolt is a little more expensive due to new 2awg cables and solenoid replacement. I think that’s the determining factor for a lot of people. I would check out the two unboxing videos I did on Bolt and Eco 105ah batteries.
the cold/blue side of my key switch only has a single male connector. I assume there are extenders out there to add another male connector, such as female to dual male connector. Then I can add the orange 12v wire. anyone see a problem with that?
For a 2008 Club Car Precedent 48 V(model with the middle hump for controller) that has the newer Navitas AC motor and controller conversion, how would you handle the OBC if you installed the ECO 51v lithium? I guess I’m concerned about how the Navitas controller will handle the charger interlock, especially if you bypass the OBC.
I installed the orange wire to the blue on the key switch as shown but not getting any voltage out of the converter. Why is this and what can I try to fix it?
With key switch off test for voltage at either key switch terminal (ground at battery). The side with voltage is the hot side and the side without is the cold side. If you have the orange wire hooked up to the cold side you should have 12v to your accessories/lights. Converters do go out rarely, if you think it’s bad I would call your dealer
Love your videos! I am getting ready to upgrade a 2006 EZ Go TXT PMS 36 volt to a Navitas 48 volt system. I've done a lot of research but can't decide on the battery. Looking at the Allied 48 volt 105 ah or the Eco Battery equivalent. Would really appreciate your thoughts, both appear to be really good. Thank you for your time.
CAUTION, Ok, couple issues I have with video, unless I missed it on the video. IF anyone installs this Eco battery and installs the wire harness from gauge to battery, the 90 degree elbow screw-in fitting has 2 connectors off it. IF, the gauge does not charge, YOU MUST connect the pigtail coming off CHARGER to the pigtail coming off the 90 degree elbow of the gauge harness. There will be 2 connectors, you can connect to either one of them. The gauge will start working properly. 2nd, DO NOT TURN ON ANY LIGHTS, if you have a LIGHTING KIT INSTALLED which I did. I blew out the front HEAD LIGHT, TAIL LIGHTS and BLINKER RELAY. ONLY WORK IF YOU INSTALLED 48V LIGHTING KIT. IF, your lighting kit is 12v, make sure you find the (FUSED 20A, BLUE or RED wires in the harness before the "Y" which splits to the rear tail lights. Those need to go to a 12v source.

We did not modify any of the RnT wires, but do recommend bypassing the OBC if your vehicle has one.
Is the blue wire at the key switch still connected? After connecting the orange wire. Can’t clearly see in the video. I have a two post key switch
did you ever figure this out? having the same issue
Yes, just tapped into it

What is the lowest the battery should get before charging?
We recommend to always keep it charged. 80% discharge is a safe discharge before recharging.

Definitely not advised to use a lead acid charger with lithiums
I'm helping a friend out who is installing a 51v system and I am not sure where the 12v neg wire goes to. any help would be great.
I run mine to a fuse block.

all Club car Precedent have the hold bar?
Anyone know how much parasitic draw the LCD monitor creates when the cart is not in use? Is there a way to have it shut off with the key?
There is no one to disconnect it as it runs through the comm port. The draw is extremely low.
I am doing the install now - I have a 6 seater and the forward/reverse switch is installed on the dash where you installed the voltage meter. Where is another good spot you would recommend to install it?
They make a vertical bracket that usually works.
Do you have a video installing the bolt energy 160a in and precendent or onward?
I don’t but I am filming the next one that comes through the shop. I have a bolt 160ah install in a TXT, similar.
I’m releasing a bolt install in a club car precedent, it’s the 105ah. Slight differences in mounting only.
