Oh my this man made all of us so happy and laugh so hard. Broke my heart when he passed away. Such a huge part of my childhood involved watching him. RIP Jim
I was and still am one of Jim Varney's biggest fans, and he passed two days before my 40th birthday, I can't help saying that was the saddest birthday of my life. Jim made this world a little less troubled by making people happy and laugh. Wish he was still here, happy, healthy and loved. He is still loved, and so missed.
Glad you're covering him. We had several things in common. He was a talented stage actor who got typecast and embraced it. He tried to avoid smoking around kids. He's buried in Lexington just north of me. He performed in Danville where my mother lives. And, I used to live in Nashville just south of him.
One of the things I admired about Jim is even though he was a chain smoker he never smoked around women and children, and even when he was sick battling cancer he would still.visit the children's hospitals dressed up as Ernest and Visit the kids and their families. Unfortunately he never had any kids of his own but he did have a nephew who he treated as his own and his nephew a few years back wrote a book about Jim and went on a few podcasts and just said nothing but great things about Jim and how he changed the face of culture as we know it.
I noticed someone had placed a smokeless cigarette on his grave. They didn't come out until like 2009. I would like to think someone put that there wishing he could have tried one and lived longer. ❤
Aww, I forgot all about Ernest until you reminded me about him with your video. Thanks for bringing a great person like him back to life for all of us, Scott. What a beautiful video this is. It's so easy to forget over time about actors that once gave us so much laughter and joy. I'm so glad there's you out there to remind us of them. What a gorgeous cemetery and a serene place to be laid to rest. I have heard of Whitehouse Tennessee, and I love that town! RIP Ernest. You are never to be forgotten anymore.
Circa 1998, when Varney first learned of his cancer, I heard that when he found out from his doctor that he had cancer, he reached into his pocket, pulled out his cigarettes, and threw them in the wastebasket. He was visibly shaking and was just staring at the pack of cigarettes for a minute, almost in disbelief. He never smoked another cigarette again. I don't remember where I heard that, and I was very young at the time, but it's something that has always stuck with me. I think one of the reasons was because Ernest P. Worrell was one of the first (if not the very first) childhood celebrity that I watched all the time, that had passed away.
I used to work at the Carmike Cinema in Clarksville Tn in the late 80s early 90s. Mr. Varney would come to his movie on opening weekend. I remember him wearing a jacket with the movie name on the back. He was quite recognizable and the jacket of course would make identification absolute. He would jokingly deny he was “Earnest” to all who asked. He would talk to everyone and was such a genuine friendly gentleman. He would always pay for his tickets and concessions despite attempts to allow him in for free. Me speculating here: I believe he truly enjoyed experiencing his movies with a public audience and seeing their reactions . I recall him at both EG to Camp and EG to jail. Awesome guy, he is truly missed!
He was so hilarious. I was so sad when he passed so young. Thank you Scott. This was a wonderful way to remember Jim Varney. 🕊️🙏❤️ BTW, what a beautiful song..
Right before "Ernest Goes to Jail" came out, he came to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children and visited with many of us in-patients. Thankful for the experience.

Jim Varney was such a huge inspiration to me in the 80s-90s. Watched most of his films and watched all of his episodes of "Hey Vern! It's Ernest!". The world is missing that man dearly.

Great job, on another great video. I live about 2 hours away from White House, in Jamestown, Tennessee. Jim Varney used to come to the Clarkrange Hunting Lodge, about 15 miles from Jamestown. He used to come up here and hunt. From what I heard, that he would dress up funny, just to make people laugh up there at the lodge.

I remember when the news broke of his passing. Dang I can't believe it's been 23 years. Jim Varney was legend. He created a character that appealed to everyone. I still enjoy the Ernest movies. RIP
I actually lived on the same street that he grew up on in Lexington ,He graduated from Lafayette High School , and was involved in the theatre department there, one teacher Thelma Beeler , really worked with him , He went to Danville Ky and performed at the Danville Pioneer Playhouse , which was famous for John Travolta also , Over the years he would come visit his parents and would drive a fancy sports car of some sort and everyone knew he was in town ..his parents were very friendly , didnt ever meet him , but we knew of him.. ..RIP Jim..
It doesn't seem that long ago that we lost him. Sometimes it feels like only yesterday when he passed. I can still see his face and hear the sound of his voice from time to time when I stop to think about him. He was magic. I don't say this about everyone I write about. He made me laugh. His smile and his humor got me through some really tough times. I'm not a very religious person. I do appreciate the sentiment on the front of his tombstone. It shows his sensitive nature for children. Thanks for sharing this video with us. Rest in Paradise Jim Varney, you helped make the world a happier place. 🌈🕊️💖
You have a great channel Scott and seem like a genuinely caring person, much respect sir, and that song "So Long My Friend"....there is beauty in the sadness of it
I was at Twitty City, Conway Twitty's estate, for one of its annual open to the public Christmas celebrations as a kid & in one of the rooms we walked by was Jim Varney & Tom T. Hall playing piano & singing Christmas carols. It was before "Beverly Hillbillies", but I'm not sure how many movies he'd done by then? He was mostly known in Nashville as Earnest from his Purity Dairy commercials. He wasn't in character of course, but he was really nice & they both gave me an autograph. ✌🌎❤
I lived in Hendersonville and never made it up to White House but I never saw Jim Varney around. I remember all of the commercials on Channel 5, I think. He seemed so kind and so talented. He is missed so much.
@@Thomas116-m2n Don't know if you remember, friend, but right around time he hit it big he did a tv special with several different skits, mostly him playing main characters? May have been on CMT if not primetime? If never saw it, it showed his range of comedic talent like nothing else he did as far as I know. Should still be on here if interested to see him at his creative best. I just remember "Sketti! Sketti, daddy!" ✌️😅
Another classy and thoughtful video. You are so sweet. The clip of Jim and Robin Williams really tugged at my heart. Two comedic greats. Thank you for another job well done.
Being from the South, I’m very fond of the welcome signs on the porch. Behind the layers of no trespassing/private property signs.Great video as always. There’s a popular theater close to me,and I thought I had heard that he did a brief acting stint there. The staff of the theater did look it up for me and he worked there in the early 70’s.However,as of now his photo isn’t on the alumni wall in the lobby. One day, maybe. For those who didn’t get his humor,I suggest watching Ernest Saves Christmas. It is a very well done movie.
Jim was a great friend of my Mom's and whenever he was in San Diego he used to come over to my house, and stay for the weekend ( this was back in the 1970's ). He actually was the one who paid for my late Aunt's ( my mom's younger sister) funeral when she passed away in 1979 and when my family moved to Northern California in 1981 Jim would visit us here. He also attended my High School Graduation in 1984.
So many great people have been taken away too early by cigarettes. In he's last months Jim Varney said it in interviews it was he's own fault and warn others to give up or not start smoking. Jim Varney said he had many more years to give in entertaining others taken away from him by cancer. He said making people happy was he's greatest joy in life and he's greatest reward. R.I.P. Jim Varney you were one of the nicest guys on earth.
I just love Jim and Ernest❣️❣️ I never heard anybody say anything bad or negative about him. Thank you for showing. I really appreciated seeing this video. May him and his family rest in peace. He gave us so much joy. 🙏👣🙌😂😂😂😘😘🥹🥹

Great job. I used to watch his weekly show I think on Saturdays. Great actor who does not get the credit he deserves. He was a funny guy.
I LOVED ERNEST!! Thank you for making this video!!!
Thank you so much for doing this one about Jim.
What a guy he was. I always enjoyed watching him back in the day.
May he Rest in Paradise 🙏
Jim's grave is the only famous person's grave I've been to. I live only a couple hours away from his grave. When Hollywood Graveyard did their Viewers Special, my pic of Jim's grave was used. Mine and one other person's. I've been a fan of Jim's for a very long time. He was a wonderful actor. Dearly missed.
LOVED his commercials as a Kid! was shocked whn he passed! RIP JIM & His family... Another great presentation Scott!!
My Mom said she knew Jim, when he worked as a driver at a bread factory in Omaha, She said he was a very nice man and easy to talk to. RIP kind soul.

Thank you for showing me his wonderful house :)
Awwww he passed on my birthday. Didn't realize it's been that long since he's been gone. That clip of him and Robin Williams hit a little harder. May they both be at peace.
I’m from Louisville. We Kentuckians loved Jim Varney. He was a good guy and a true talent. Thank you for your (as always) respectful and thoughtful tribute to him and to everyone whose story you share with us. ❤
Oh….my….goodness! I used to quote Jim all the time as a kid…and kinda still do lmao! “I sure hope you’re from Keebler!” 😂Scott, this is outstanding! Thank you for this! ❤❤❤
Awww😭😭 I remember his movies when I was a little girl. This is sad....BEAUTIFUL song, Scott‼️‼️
I remember when the news broke of his passing. Dang I can't believe it's been 23 years. Jim Varney was legend. He created a character that appealed to everyone. I still enjoy the Ernest movies. RIP
Thank you Scott. This brings back some good memories. Rest easy Jim Varney.
A video Adam the Woo would be proud of. How can you not love Jim Varney and the character Ernest
I actually lived on the same street that he grew up on in Lexington ,He graduated from Lafayette High School , and was involved in the theatre department there, one teacher Thelma Beeler , really worked with him , He went to Danville Ky and performed at the Danville Pioneer Playhouse , which was famous for John Travolta also , Over the years he would come visit his parents and would drive a fancy sports car of some sort and everyone knew he was in town ..his parents were very friendly , didnt ever meet him , but we knew of him.. ..RIP Jim..
My dad went to school with Jim varney in Kentucky. Yeah great video
My dad is from Pikeville he grew up with them
I loved the one with Ernest playing basketball. Loved his movies. Thank you for sharing this
Gotta love Jim aka Ernest, i grew up on his movies and when my nieces where little they watched and loved him
It doesn't seem that long ago that we lost him.
Thanks again scott for all your hard work. Rest in peace Verne
You have a great channel Scott and seem like a genuinely caring person, much respect sir, and that song "So Long My Friend"....there is beauty in the sadness of it
So long my friend, my son & I will always miss you. ❤
Sketti, daddy!"
✌️😅
Loved watching Ernest movies! My grandkids loved watching Ernest saved Christmas! Thanks for sharing! RIP Jim 🙏
This was super cool to watch, thank you! I loved Ernest P. Worrell when I was growing up in the 80's and 90's.
Thank you for honoring Jim. He deserves the best.
Oh man this man Varney was better then 90% of anything after 97
Thank you so much for posting this. Jim Varney's Ernest character was a huge part of my childhood. RIP Jim❤❤❤
I really enjoyed this video. Jim Varney was a staple in our household growing up. The song you played was epic too
Jim was a great friend of my Mom's and whenever he was in San Diego he used to come over to my house, and stay for the weekend ( this was back in the 1970's ).
