It’s not a double blind test Kevin. Double blind means test streamer a then b, then play either one randomly and ask the person being tested which it is - either the first or second. I mean come on, do you really think a hifi dealer who sells this stuff is going to publish a video voting the Volumio higher than the eversolo when it costs slightly less.

Ive been using a Wiim Mini with my system which sounds quite good. I bought it as a streamer before i even knew what a DAC was to integrate with my Vintage Yamaha (CR840) Receiver and Mission 780SE Speakers. I am now thinking of upgrading to the DMP-A6. Do you think it is worth the extra cost and will there be a noticable sound quality difference?
Hi Donal and thank you for your message. Your existing system will benefit greatly from the introduction of the A6 in my opinion, I think you will be surpised by how much! Cheers, Mark :)
Thanks for the video. It’s not very clear to me, how did you make this test/comparison? What DAC did you use with the volumio primo since this one is a streamer only device and it does not have any analogue output? Did you also use the same dac for the eversolo? Please shed some light
Good morning and thank you for the comment. That would indeed be interesting, we don't have access to one, but I'd be interested to see what others think :) Thanks again for watching.
@@derekclark7545 Still waiting on it, they shipped it to Texas, I am in Michigan... Trying to get it sorted out. But, I can say the Rivo streamer is pretty impressive in regards to sound quality. I just wish we could run the WiiM software on it. I miss my 10 band EQ. The one in Volumio is a PEQ, not something I am interested in.
Thank you for the three videos. All three tests Mark did not mention the connections used. Were the streamers connected to the integrated amp over their analogue outputs? Was it RCA or XLR for the Eversolo? How couild you not even put this into perspective? Would one hear any difference at all if the digital outputs were used into the Anthem amp built in DAC?
Hi Nick, we used both on RCA on the Anthem - we have a 'transport' only test on our schedule for the Master Edition v the Volumio Rivo - we will be using an external DAC for this test.
Very long video. Can't go back to watch evwry second of it. Was there a third person controlling the play back and the evaluaters didn't know what software and hardware was playing? Was the volume matched when switching any software or hardware? Thanks!

Thanks for a great review 👌 Did you have the opportunity to compare some the devices with the first version of primo?? Volumio primo hifi edition. Been using the Primo hifi edition for some years now and wondering if Primo v2 will be a upgrade
Good morning Zoran, many thanks for the feedback. I have not done that comparison, however, from what I have read, the new v2 should be much better :) Cheers, Mark
@@EliteAudioUK Hi Mark, Thx for reply wondering where you actually read that? Can you att a link if there is any test/review thats made where the two primos have been a/b tested in comparison. Thanks for that effort! However, I am nonplussed by the fact the manufacturers' apps should affect the sound. How does an app, that should only manage switching but not the stream itself affect the sound? Shouldn't that be considered a failing regarding the circuitry and switching management design? It's a pity the Primo doesn't have its own screen and management without an app. What would the outcome be if compared with managing the hardware without an app? 🤔
I think when he refers to the app, he is generally speaking of the software running on the actual device. The app is just a client to the device sending commands back to it/the server. It's the implementation of that software running on the device is what he brought into question. At least, that's my take from it.
I have seen other reviewers also mention this. Use the native app for better sound. Like for the Eversolo use their own app with for instance Tidal integration, rather than the Tidal app itself and Tidal connect to connect to the Eversolo.

Great video. I want to know if the DMP a6 master edition as streamer only is better then volumio primo and on par with A8. Is there a streamer only that beats eversolo at the same price point ?
Hi Eric and thank you very much indeed for the feedback. The A8 sounds the best of the three followed by the A6 ME and then the Primo. That said all are good.... my advice is trust what you hear :) Cheers, Mark
thank you for response. I have the a6 master with LPS and using as a streamer only and wanted to know how much better a8 streamer only section was compared. what streamer only unit is a step above A8?
I believe you will be blind testing the DMP A6 vs the HiFi Rose RS250, but I would also be interested in the Master Edition vs HiFi Rose RS150 too. I see you do also sell the RS150. Content of that device vs competition does not really exist. I get the higher price point, but would be great to hear opinions on whether it is actually worthy of that.
Good afternoon and thank you for the message. It will be the Master Edition v RS250a - interesting comparison. I own an RS150B and its brilliant. Thank you again for watching, its appreciated. :)
@@EliteAudioUK Looking forward to that comparison, and thanks for this series of content! As the RS150B will not feature, are you able to summarise your personal findings of that device vs the RS250a? I can then use this as a point of reference when watching the upcoming showdown. Thank you.
I have compared both and the RS150B just takes the refinement to another level. It has more musical engagement, although as with all of these terms, its relative as that suggests the 250 doesn't. I always advise trying to hear these for yourself, as there is no substitute for doing so. Interestingly, we have a WILDCARD coming into the mix, which we will receive next week, so keep an eye out for that ;)
@@EliteAudioUK I appreciate you taking the time to answer - thank you. The RS150 appeals to me the most, but the price is prohibitive at the moment. I’ll watch the final round with interest. Hopefully you’ll make mention of this wildcard there as I am intrigued 👍
I hope that means that you'll do Eversolo Master A6 into a really good DAC compared to Volumio Rivo into the same DAC and same cabling and using their native software. And that you'll use native software for all the final tests, at least in one of the stages. Boy this is getting complicated, but you're having fun right?! Some want to see the tests with other components in a similar price range, but some of us want to know if these are giant killers - compare favourably against stuff in the £2k+ range. For some people the giants are in the £10k+ range, but they really don't care about the Eversolo and Volumio anyway.
Good evening and thank you for the comment. There is definitely a diversity of testing requests out there and currently we are keeping the systems to what we know and trust. We recently held a showroom event where we pitched a £50k system v a £100k system. With the lower priced system we put a lot of emphasis on infrastructure (Mains, network, cables etc) and guess what? In our blind test, the attendees (There were around 50 or so) voted the lower priced system as the one they thought sounded best! It proves that synergy can beat price! Thanks again for watching, really appreciated :)
I've just been through the list of all the equipment that was used for the blind tests and apart from the Network cables everything was over £1000 in some cases nearer £5000, I would think like myself for the majority of us we can not afford these sort of prices, so why not do the testing using equipment that is in the hundreds or for some of the smaller items i.e.. network cables interconnects less than a £100 I would expect that would be more appreciated to us lesser gods.
Good morning and thank you for the feedback. Its a good point, however, the outcome should similar (unless there is a significant mismatch in terms of impedance). Really appreciate your comments and thanks for watching. :)
Thank you for your reply it was an excellent video, the only reason I made this comment was that the DMP-A6 is less than £1000 & I expect the Volumio is as well so why not match it with like-for-like equipment if you're going to do a match of far more expensive streamers use the more expensive equipment to match it. @@EliteAudioUK
@@BroncoRDif you want to hear what may be slight differences between streamers, you'll be able to hear these more with more revealing (and likely expensive) equipment.

So…if you don’t spend the 70 pounds annual subscription fee it becomes a brick? I’m likely going with the eversolo for that reason alone,it’s like paying rent and not really owning the thing. Kinda sneaky if you ask me the car makers and now this what BS.
Good evening and thanks for the comment - the software is free for life with the Volumio. You only have to pay for it if you are using it with another type of device :)
Hi Philip, thank you for your comment and feedback. Some of the staff were genuinely surprised that the control software in this example would make such a significant difference. I myself had to eat some humble pie as you would have discovered in the video. Appreciate the feedback and thank you for watching. Mark :)
Whilst I salute your attempts at blind testing you need a bit more statistics knowledge before you interpret your results. With just 7 reviewers there is a 45% chance that the results will be 5/2 6/1 or 7/0 one way or the other just by pure chance. Hence a 5/2 result is near statistically irrelevant, it certainly doesn’t show any clear preference. You would need at least constantly 6/1 to be confident of a better than chance result (even then it would happen 12.5% of the time by chance). You also need the reviews to be able to pick a no difference/preference result otherwise they may simply be choosing at random without hearing an obvious difference.
You need a ‘control’ in other words to your last point. Another thing to make it more valid would be to do more tests on one person , varying the order of playing from each source, and check the statistical significance variance in the correct results of that. In that it would act as a control on a small audience.
Primo owner here. It does punch way above its price sound-quality-wise. Its downfall is Volumio library management, which is pretty much non existant, also with very basic playlist management and no shuffle. The Premium things like artist info are layered over, meaning they are a click or more away. Only if you use your file system or list by Artist, it will cope. After a year or so I gave up with it and started using Roon. Maybe there are some very slight sound differences but I've not noticed any degradation (I use upsampling where possible) but the QoL is way way better.

@@EliteAudioUKi compared the 150B to Cambridge Edge NQ, Edge NQ won easily! I didn't use the Rose app tho...
Thanks again for watching, really appreciated :)
iiWi Reviews recently compared the Rivo to the DMP-A6. Rivo wins
Volumio Primo vs A6 Master Edition?
Good morning Mark, we did that two weeks ago and you can find it here :

Hope you enjoy it and thank you for watching. :)
@@EliteAudioUK Sorry didn't see that review. Outstanding format, Love what you are doing with blind testing.
Thanks Mark, appreciate the feedback and we hope to keep up the good work :) Cheers, Mark

Great
Thank you :)
Thanks for clearing that up, makes the Volumio appealing again ;)@@EliteAudioUK
This outcome was the textbook antithesis of a SHOCK. Click-baitty waste of everybody’s time.
What a load of jibberish
Pleas explain ?
