nice one mate
theoretically nothing stopping a group of cavemen dropping this banger in 200 000 BC, and I'm loving that
i always think about this but like medieval peasants beatboxing
I didn't know Caravan had words.
Check out Duke Ellington with Ella Fitzgerald on Caravan 😊

This is the single most underrated video I’ve ever seen on TH-cam, this is beautiful and only has 2.8k views and 15 comments holy shit
The dissonance staying true to the original! Love it!
Why are you looking down here? There’s no marsbars down here.
This is wonderful! Sent chills down my spine! Great job!
I expected this to have like 2 million views when I clicked on it and watched the most underrated TH-cam video ever!

Excellent performances all around! So musical and just ridiculously sharp on the rhythms

@@reallifedoor4536 the voices are likely recorded in studio separately and mixed together, then overdubbed on the live performance

What genre of singing would this be (not acapella, but the style of the soloists) - the soloists were AMAZING to say the least, especially the first one. I'd love to hear more music like this but I don't think it's jazz
all the singing definitely falls under the umbrella of jazz. the first soloist was just singing the chorus but that style of vocalising non-words later is called scatting, which may fall under the genre of bebop. i'd recommend checking out veronica swift's scat solos, they are somewhat similar to the later soloists. th-cam.com/video/I1HQ1zpPi4A/w-d-xo.html. hope this helps :)
@@fresamouse ahh yeah that's pretty much it, thank you very much!
*and the first soloist falls under jazz too?
@@reallifedoor4536 indubitably :)
Yeahhhhhh. Idk. Jazz is a weird term - the age ole "what is jazz?". I personally wouldn't call this jazz, though it involves some components found in jazz. To me, this is a pop/jazz choir covering a jazz piece. This performance is great, all of the singers are great, the arrangement is great, no hate here. But they're covering a swing tune, and they ain't swingin. There is little to no improvisation. The intended feel of the song is a miss for me- they're clearly trying to recreate the rhythm section (drums, bass, piano/guitar), but they aren't executing it with the finesse that comes from the kind of intense study and training that jazz musicians steep themselves in. It's still fire- but I don't think it's jazz.
@@user-yq4cd2en1t yeah, i definitely see your point. i should've specified. it's also a very modern arrangement, even the one in whiplash. although i'm a huge fan of the movie and the final scene, that arrangement isn't indicative of most other big band versions of caravan, it doesn't seem like the trombone solo is improvised, and it kinda looks like Neymann just trying to outperform everyone else, which is so not the point of actual jazz, but works narratively for the film. with that said some of these harmonies in this arrangement are quite difficult for most singers to hit, and it does seem like there are some brief moments of improv. i think it's good to let people access jazz through easy gateways like this. a (mostly) pop audience for example don't feel they have the attention span for instrumental music, and so listening to standards sung with lyrics can be a good way of bridging that gap initially. it's the same sort of discussion with Laufey, she's not jazz, but there are elements of jazz in her music and by exposing a pop audience to them, she could get people interested in the music of the greats. i'm going to study jazz next year at Australia's leading conservatorium, so i'm always thinking about this question, but more importantly trying to expose people to the music any way i can. :) take care.
