    The part baking procedure after the first sandblast was a good tip. At first thought, it would not have seemed that so much residue would have baked out. Great prep tip!

      I was surprised at how much oil was left post cleaning. Good idea to always off gas parts.

    Thanks for showing how it's done. First time I've seen it done at home. Definitely going to give this a try.

      It was pretty straightforward. I think it will replace rattle cans for most things now.

    Been powder coating parts for 10+ years! It’s an absolute game changer in the home garage!!

      This was a revelation to me...I'd often farmed the work out and now can do it myself.

    Dangit Craig, you're making me want to do my own powdercoating now, too!

      Sorry about that....but I've now tossed out a number of spray bombs 💣

    I was waiting for you to start powder coating. I have been doing and all I gotta say: it’s addictive and so easy to do.

      Agreed. Wish I tried earlier.

      Yes. Not sure if you do zinc or anodizing but that’s easy as hell too! Specially for restoring hard to find bolts. The TH-cam videos just make it sound super hard.

    You need a spray booth, that overspray powder sticks to everything in the shop. Something as simple as a big cardboard box with a fan behind pulling through a furnace filter really helps contain it

      Thanks. I'll give it a try next time. I've got a big fan in the garage.

      Hardly any orange peel, you out gassed and you did it with a dual voltage. Looks amazing! By the way you can build ur own oven that’ll fit rims for a few hundred bucks!

    Great Job! If you are going to get an old residential stove and use the oven part for powder coating, I would highly recommend junking the temp control from the oven and putting in a digital PID temp controller. You can get a kit that also includes a Thermocouple and a 40Amp SSR for around $20 CDN off Amazon.

      @@ThrottleStopGarage It really tunes up the accuracy of the oven. Helped a friend last winter upgrade a yard sale stove. He uses it for powder coating and he loves it.

      I think I made those doors almost 20 years ago and they've served me well. I also think I should paint them. I'm also trying to get a new garage space designed and then it will have new cabinets. A lick of paint isn't a big deal and it sure would tidy the place up!

  • @cghoward70

    I've watched this done professionally firsthand. A good way to judge if your pressure is too high: At correct pressure (to me) it appears the gun is "releasing a cloud" and not so much a directional spray.

    • @ThrottleStopGarage
      @ThrottleStopGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks - I've changed my regulator so I can get some accuracy at the lower end of the pressure scale.

    Interesting video. The valve cover seemed to have corrosion scaling present prior to powder coating but the finished job is superb. Is the powder coating high build?

    • @ThrottleStopGarage
      @ThrottleStopGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      There was a nickel plating on the original part but no corrosion. There was old paint on one of the covers. The powder is not a high build the way that I applied it. So screws/caps etc still fit very nicely.

    I don't recall the brand of my powder gun, but it came with different nozzles that have different arrays of holes in them that helps diffuse the powder, it wouldn't be hard to modify that blank one you have to do the same.
    But yeah, much lower air pressure would do a ton of good, you want to "breath" the powder on, not really spray it on.
    Looks great though, awesome job!

    • @ThrottleStopGarage
      @ThrottleStopGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had a cheapo regulator on my spray line and it just couldn't regulate the air down low enough. It's now in the bin.
