I pressed on Mr Snooze TH-cam Channel, wah lah located your archive/ library. Brilliant stuff on rust removal. Looking forwards to your next modification. Brittania is a favourite of mine. Loved the video 💫
Hello Tim, I was looking back the other day and it is interesting to see how everything has developed over the year, especially as spare time, even in lockdown, was limited for railway fun. All the best to you
There is something really satisfying watching those trains running, oh and hearing :) OH, one of the areas I have found noise comes from is the rear bearing plate against the magnet, vibration gets in between the lugs and the top and bottom pole pieces, in the past to test this I have added a tiny bit of super glue to each lug, my B12 went from Mr Gindy to Mr Smooth!
Hello, interesting information there. My first motor with the rear bearing replaced with a ball race is a revelation. I'm enjoying trying these mods. Thanks for watching, all the best to you
Hello, thanks for the positive comments. I really like to get some Hornby Dublo items running but I'm always on the lookout for nylon wheels so I can run them on the Super 4. All the best to you
Well done for your first year mate. It's been a real pleasure following your progress. Funnily enough I had a look through my boxed up trains today looking for some old LNER coaches to run with my 3-rail Silver King. I'm going to put a temporary HD layout together for my granddaughter next week and I needed to dig into the old boxes. While I was searching I unearthed two Britannias - one of which is a Triang Iron Duke which was originally a train set version with no smoke deflectors and simplified valve gear. I probably ruined its collector value as a kid by adding the missing valve gear and deflectors but no matter. They're for running not staying on the shelf! I've got at least two others somewhere too, including one very early silver seal Britannia . Tender drive, but with original style flangeless centre drivers and pick ups. Quite unusual. All it's missing is a gear wheel on the centre axle and the XO4 to make it loco drive! It's the only one I've ever seen like that. Love those Dublo tank wagons!
Hello Robin, I really like the sound of the Silver King up and running, I hope your granddaughter enjoys seeing it race round. It's great you have that original Iron Duke. nothing wrong with a few period mods either and like I say if it's got a motor in it it should be run. Get them out and enjoy running them I say. All the best to you
Good Evening....All the very best to you with the Triang..... I love it..... I grew up on grey track and XO4 motors. I brought the my collection here when i moved to Namibia 2017..... I hope I can upload a few videos myself one day with my layout. Shame you are not closer, ive got to reset the chime on an old Smiths carriage clock. Thank you for the time and your effort, keep it going, Maurice.
Hello Maurice, I hope to see some videos when you get time, It's good you still have your collection. You can e-mail me if you have trouble with your clock at the address in the about tab of the site. All the best to you
Hello Maurice, just to let you know your latest comment disappeared as I went to reply to it, some TH-cam glitch I think. Thanks for looking at the channel again, all the best to you
These Dublo wagons probably weigh a bit so that’s impressive running on the Iron Duke . Always good restoring a loco to running condition . My version is a tender powered Oliver Cromwell , received Christmas 75. She’s special . So even though there are now more detailed versions , really none can compare to,Ollie Cromwell . Great video as usual . Love seeing these older models run . I actually like the noise of running and the clatter over the points . Has to be said Hornby Dublo best for that
Hello Russell, I bet your Oliver Cromwell is great. I do have one but it will be a while before its running again. Someone had used it as a donor so lots of bits to track down. Best regards to you
Hi, Britannia splendour.Another great video of two Britannia locos running.I have 3 Triang Britannias from 1960 complete with metal nameplates and working Seuthe pipe smoke units.Keep up the good work.
@@MrSnooze Hi, Yes the metal nameplates were great. The Britannia metal nameplates were eventually replaced with the paper stick on type with alternative names and cab numbers.Best regards Robbie.
Great layout. I still have my Dads Britannia (bought new in 1968), runs quietly and so smootly. I'm swapping the syncrosmoke unit for a seuthe one soon, as the elements are now too expensive.
Hello Nicholas, great to hear you are still running your dads Britannia, such good locomotives. You can repair those elements, I'm going to show in a future video. Remove the brass ends and rewind with 5 amp fuse wire. Sometimes you need to try different types of wire. I got some 3 amp that smoked at lower speed but it burnt out at high speed. great for slow speed smoke though. All the best to you
Lovely session today Jonathan, I can't wait to get my Britannia out and give it a run. I was surprised that the Iron Duke was able to handle all those wagons. Regards, David.
Hello David, I hope all is well with you and you are finding a little time for relaxation and maybe a bit of railways. I was pleased the Iron Duke could haul those wagons but one more would have had it slipping, good old Magnadhesion. All the best to you
Good afternoon finally got to catch up with your video some great running with those locomotives. I’ve had a few of those later silver steel wheels just disintegrate I think there must be poorly stamped out those fine metal rims which Are then just pushed onto that the plastic wheel and axle moulding. I think they can also break free of the wheel causing poor running. It will be great to see proper bearings on those motors. Take care. Oscar
Hello Oscar, that is very interesting to hear about the wheels. I smoothed them off a bit and now they run better. I shall research some replacements, the thing is I don't want the modern super fine wheels though. All the best to you
Very exciting watching the Britannia flying past the Iron Duke with it's fabulous tank wagons. Looking forward to the X04 episode. I have just replaced the spherical bronze bearings on my R52 Jinty and R59 2-6-2 tank with new bronze ones. The R59 because beautifully quiet but the Jinty still has that typical noise so I suspect it's the back bearing that is worn. Could there be a possible solution? 😊👍
Hello Pauline, I'm glad you enjoyed the running. Coincidentally as I type I have a Jinty on the rolling road that has had just one ball race fitted, this to the rear of the armature. The difference is amazing, I hope to share this soon. Best regards to you
Hello Bob, Thanks for watching again. As I type this I have a Jinty on the rolling road with a Ball Race fitted to the rear next to the magnet. What a difference. All the best to you
Super running session. I can relate to the problem with silver seal wheels with the square axle, they don’t work at all on modern code 100 Peco track as they constantly trip up on points. The back to back is way too narrow and they ride up on the guide rails plus I find the flanges rather erratic. I have changed all my stock apart from recently acquired so have a tub full of them. I look forward to your motor upgrades, that sounds a very interesting project. Congratulations on the first year it’s been a great one to follow.
Hello Rob. That's a great tip, next time I'm up at the layout I'll check those back to backs. They are the square axle ones. What replacements did you use? Best regards to you.
@@MrSnooze hi, I used mainly Hornby’s modern ones though I have also used some Bachmann. I think the pin points on the Bachmann ones are slightly different and sometimes bind a bit depending on the axle boxes. I also have a set of axle box reamers from DCC Concepts that help with that problem.
Hello Peter, sound modules are great but unfortunately as this is a DC layout they are not compatible with my vintage locomotives. Maybe in the future I will build an additional DCC layout, it would be fun to experiment with sound then. All the best to you
nice work i spent today fitting a cd motor to a lima crab to replace the pancake motor it now runs very quiet i am going to expiriment fitting a modern hornby motor to a bachmann split chassis 060 tender loco as the bachman motors are so unreliable as they get old
Hello Robin, thanks for watching. I'm interested in that conversion. I wonder if the CD motor has much torque? I bet they do run nice and quietly. Good luck with your Bachmann project. All the best to you
Hi there. I have an Iron Duke with smoke deflectors and engine number 70047. I'm trying to find the year of production. Mine runs the basic X04 motor and has the D lock in the front so must be 1959 or younger and the colour scheme is very basic. Do you know which year these were produced from? Apparently these were mail order items only and were R056. Would be greatfull for ant help. Thanks Mon from Brisbane
Hello Mon. It's very interesting to hear about your Iron Duke. Looking in my book by Pat Hammond the 70047 was probably made around 1975 to 1976 as you say for mail order train sets. They then realised the running number was wrong and changed it to 70014. If you had one with the number 70014 and smoke deflectors it would be super rare. I don't have a genuine one, I renumbered an old Britannia. Oscar Paisley has an Iron Duke he has featured it in a recent video. Take care, all the best to you
A second-hand Triang Britannia was my first ever loco back in about 1973
A great item to start with, a lovely looking old thing. all the best to you
