@@katirenakline same, I was on a roller coaster with Dean, there were times where he showed so much love for jack like when he was dying and he took him out to eat and showed him how to drive and fishing and then there's other times where he's so mean to him and is willing to sacrifice him for the "greater good" or something else like saving Sammy and it just really pisses me off, at times I think he considers him a son and loves him and others it's like he never really considered him part of the family. Either way I didn't like anyone hurting my baby Jack, in my mind even though he looked older he was still that little baby/little kid and I always felt heartbroken that a little baby/kid would have to go through such horrible things and how traumatizing that must've been for him, also feeling like he was alone and without someone to love and protect him. When dean was being an ass to him after he was born it was so sad and when they locked him up in that one box, that was just horrible and I don't give a flying fuk in hell why they were doing it they shouldn't have done that. Poor baby must've felt so heartbroken and betrayed by the people he trusted the most and those he considered family. Pretty sure I cried watching that, I was furious and deeply sad for jack

I’m rewatching the show and I have such a hard time forgiving dean for everything he did to jack, I think Sam should get more credit for how well jack turned out, because even after cas showed up Sam still did most of the work on his own

Sam was the only one to give him a chance. Cuz he been there. He knows what it like to be judged as a monster without knowing or doing anything wrong. Don’t forget he did have that whole demon blood power thing that he never using. When dean saw a monster, Sam saw a lost and confused kid.
sandywolfr26 Yeah I agree but the reason dean saw Jack as a monster in the beginning wasn’t because of who he was it mostly because how he came into the world lead to Cas’ death. The relationship dean had with jack was the same as a father who hated his daughter because he resembled his wife so much and was the cause of her death through childbirth. Dean couldn’t face Jack without thinking about how Cas died and hurt because of that wishing Jack died instead of Cas. Learning he was wrong he tried to be a better figure to Jack and tried to right his wrong like the father who realises that he was wrong and should have helped her and supported her instead of hating her for her existence. The r are very similar especially now that Destiel is canon.

Everyone talks about Cas and Jack, or Sam or Jack..... but for me it was watching Dean and Jack’s relationship grow. Watching Dean overcome his issues with Jack, watching Dean understand Jack.... that’s what did it for me.

The 3 father grew to love Jack. When he dies, they are all crushed from the loss. Jack cements the boys together as they all show him caring and kindness in their own ways. A real message here.

Through his response to Jack we can see how the events in his life have really impacted Dean and his ability to welcome people into his heart. If we look back at earlier seasons Dean was much quicker at accepting characters that became Family; and he very much took on a caring role for those, he saw as vulnerable or needing help.
However with Jack we can see how reluctant he is to fully accept him in, and even when he does, once Jack betrays that trust (even though he couldn’t help it) Dean is more reluctant to accept the apology and move on from it, than I believe the past Dean might of been. Obviously Mary was always going to be a much more sensitive spot once hit but I think this change in Dean, the bitterness, resentment, and severe aversions to opening himself to another person, just to risk losing them is highlighted especially watching Dean with Jack after the initial “birth” of Jack rather than simply after he [jack] loses control.
Also I think it is important to note that of the two Dean and not Sam is often the best with kids and for a time (following season five) was largely living the life of a father of sorts. And in fact many of us know, and Dean himself has noted, that he, and not Mary or even John, has been the “parent” in Sam’s life. Because Jack is in essence an empty vessel when born, eager to learn and capable of great love, pain and anger, Dean’s initial rejection of him and his insistence that as the son of the Devil, Jack can’t be trusted, comes across as cruel and unjust. But once you take into account all that Dean, in particular, has gone through , what he has lost (in the years and moments before meeting Jack) it’s easy to see why he has more reservations than Sam

I love this video, and it's awesome, but it kind of feels like a lie, because then I remembered in season 15 Dean told Sam that Jack wasn't family and basically he was expendable and remembered they never really gave Dean character growth......because what he said hurt me for Jack. This was one of the main reasons I could not enjoy the ending of Supernatural because all 4 came together like a family but they didn't come together or go out like that.
