For example, 沈's etymology originally depicted some sort of cattle being submerged/drowned in water, which gives it the definition of "to submerge, to drown". In the old days, this was a ritual that occurred in order to provide offerings for local deities. Also, 死's etymology depicts that of a human laying amongst human bones/remains, which gives it a connotation of "to die".
Perhaps I'm not giving people from ages past enough credit, but would they have known what a heart looked like back then? I suppose what's depicted in the video probably isn't a completely biologically accurate picture, but I was quite surprised when I saw how realistic it looked, at least to me.

actually the first one is more like this. the legs in Japanese kanji mean "support", they don't literally mean "legs". so Eyes + Legs (support) is see, because your eyes support sight. the way you explained it is somewhat confusing so i clarified it

The characters that transferred from oracle bone to bronze script remained roughly the same, and it wasn't until the Qin-Han dynasties that the characters became more "simplified" and "standardized" down from their archaic forms. Seal script, 篆书, originated in the mid Han dynasty and the "eye" form looked a lot like 見 already at that point.
