  • Beginning of organisation... sorting and cataloguing fasteners and other parts for electroplating, further investigating the extent of repairs necessary - I also took several measurements (not shown) to establish sub-chassis alignment etc.

    Hi Pete, Have just discovered your videos and I'm going through them all. You are doing a fantastic job and it is good to actually see someone repairing rust with metal patches and properly preparing a car for restoration, rather than reading about it in a book. Keep up the good work

    WOOOOO HOOOOOO Ya Back Peter. Im a Happy Man again with another great rebuild to watch. I am now looking for an XB sedan. As a young kid growing up in the 70's (sound familiar lol ;-) ) our family car was a 1975 XB Falcon 500 302 C4 centre shift, Pepper red with parchment trim. The VK Group A will stay but i want my childhood memory Car.
    Great to have you back. Kick arse on this car. If you want a manual pedal box for this if you dont already have one - i will give it to you as i was going to throw it out. If you can use it - ITS YOURS MATE !!!
    Regards
    Paul

    Factory A/C in XCs is awesome, i love it in mine and it works mint. Gotta have it!

      +gtlegend007 You're certainly correct there. I had it in a GXL I had years ago and it worked well. I just doubt I'll use it in this car, plus I like a simpler looking engine bay. Thanks for the comments Cheers Peter

    Hi Peter, After owning a XA and XC Fairmont in my late teens( really wanted the 5.8 GXL but too much $$ for a young fella back then ) Am really looking forward to this rebuild as much as the XW and thank you so much for making great videos from NZ

    I was always disappointed Mad Max didn't feature an XC in their interceptor lineup.
    That would have looked kickass with that grill you showed us with the integrated driving lights and Mel Gibson's character behind the wheel chasing the knight rider.

    Great video as always, thank you very much. We didn't have to wait long (or at all even) before you got cracking on the new project, excellent. Thanks again.

    I know the wheels for the xc are a long way down the track but when it comes time for the wheels try baking soda blasting" just a suggestion", it wont deeply etch the finish of the alloy like sand or media blasting and won't get hot and possibly crack the alloy but will clean them and remove the corrosion so they can be painted, you can get the baking soda blasting kits from total tools for about $125 with soda included

    • @PeterAndersons
      @PeterAndersons  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Josh D Thanks Josh... I never thought of baking soda, was just going to hand them over to a guy to do. That's very handy to know. Thanks again.
      Cheers Peter

    Hhahah - Original Car off the door....great work! This "should" definitely be a nicer build "structually" than the XW. Love getting the parts list together of what needs to be bought, then straight to ebay / GT Shop.

    Nice project! I'm enjoying viewing your progress. Give us a look when you can of your Holden. We don't see them too often here so I'm curious to learn about it. I owned a Holden once it was an absolute blast. It was a 2005 model sold here as a Pontiac GTO. Loved it but had to eventually move on from it regrettably..

    You can media blast the rims and to paint them, i recommend a epoxy primer or etch primer but you might already know that. Paint doesn't stick to well to the aluminum rims otherwise.

    look up vapour blasting,it will bring the wheels up great, comes up like a satin polished look, I did a look of it when I restored my 1970 triumph bike.

    hi Pete, been a big help mate. I'm up to part 17 on the xw. Did you have to take the springs and rubbers out of the door catches before having them dipped? Also what kind of replating did you have done?

    • @PeterAndersons
      @PeterAndersons  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +howirolljack Hi mate, if it's the lock mechanisms inside the doors you're talking about, then yes. There is one long spring per lock and one small spring that's only fitted to the rear locks... you can see them at 19:15 on this XC video... they're the same layout as the XW ones. The plating I had done was gold zinc plating from a place in Bayswater. Hope this helps. Thanks for your comments, cheers Peter

    hey mate if you haven't already jump on facebook and join a group called XR XT XW XY XA XB XC GT FAIRMONT BUY SELL SWAP. there's just under 12,000 members on there and if you need parts just ask and somebody is bound to have something you're after...there's so many cheap x series ford things up for sale over in the eastern states, i'd kill to have them here in WA.

      facebook and gumtree are the way to go when you're working on old cars nowadays, there's currently an old xb sedan up for sale for $500 bucks and from what i could see everything is there minus engine, tranny, bumpers, bonnet and the grille. it looks to have little rust as well. i think its in some place called howlong in NSW. if you're not on facebook then get the young the bloke to pull the group up and he should be able to show you whats up for sale.

    Hi Peter i was wondering how u painted the por 15 under your wheel arches on your xw , was it with a brush or spray gun.

    • @PeterAndersons
      @PeterAndersons  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ivan K all the POR15 painting was two coats with a brush... it self levels, so looks sprayed - I need to buy another can for this XC!
