    Great video. With oil pump alignment tools in place I unbolted the oil pump given a little extra chain slack allowing me to easily walk the chain off with very little effort and the oil pan still on. Took less than 1 minute. I used 2 small Philips screwdrivers & a slightly curved tip pick. Also after removing water pump I used a leaf power & blew out the antifreeze from the block so no spillage when the heads were removed.

    Thank you for the info. I am a euro car mechanic since 1988 but got to do a cam/lifter job on a 2016 Sierra 4x4 at work. This saved me dropping the front diff/oil pan/ oil pump. Those clips at the rear of the intake manifold cover are a real PITA! My crank bolt was EXTREMELY tight. The shop's 3/4" impact wouldn't even touch it. Book time is 30 hours to replace the cam! All your info made my job much easier...thank you.

    Little tip for everyone using the DOD plugs, I like to clean the surface real good and just throw a piece of tape front and back and left to right, that way if it doesn’t go in you don’t fling it and drop it in your engine.

    Very informative and detailed video man. super In depth. Just goes to show that if you have the time, tools and basic knowledge anyone can do a cam swap at their house. Well done buddy! Can't wait to AFM/DOD delete my 2018 Sierra and get her chopping. Might also help that I already have a tune on the truck to delete the DOD so I shouldn't get a check engine light, but I will definitely be getting a new tune afterwards.

    I have a couple questions, and I don’t want any of them to be detrimental to your video. I loved the video and it answered a lot of my questions. The first is at what point did you set the engine to TDC. Do you have to do it before removing the heads, or does it only matter when it comes time to remove the chain. The second is why did you go with removing the chain with the oil pump still on it. It kinda makes me nervous prying the chain and it’s nothing against you. If it works, it works. I was just wondering how much more work it requires to remove the oil pump to be able to remove the chain easier without having to pry it off.

    • @craigmcmurtrey8032
      @craigmcmurtrey8032 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you take the oil pump off, you first have to have oil pump alignment tools to make sure it goes back in the exact same location. Also the oil pan will have to be dropped down to pull the pump. I think that oil pan is pretty tricky to remove and install while the engine is mounted in the truck.

    • @MrMonsterMusicMedia

      What Craig said I see a lot of people say if the pump isn’t perfect they have oil press problems

    • @RyanMonty

      You have to remove the oil pan to get he pump out, and if you have a 4WD truck, you have to take the front differential out just to drop the oil pan. It's very...very stupid lol

    Hey Jack did you ever get your truck tuned I've been looking a lot into this but the major disconnect seems to be the encryption on the 2020 LT engines did you have to go stand alone like Holley Dominator be able to get a proper tune? It's really irritating to me that GM puts encryption on something that you can't do anything to when you're buying a truck from them. Maybe after the warranty runs out will be able to tune these trucks and that's what it is preventing the truck from getting tuned maybe after the warranty is out maybe it just automatically lifts the encryption to where you can access the parameters. I plan on putting a Holley Dominator setup on my truck once my extended warranty runs out cuz I want to basically make it a ZL1 but faster just for the hell of it

      @@eugenebachuk9623 You do remove it - I watched him to do it when he did my cam last weekend - great guy, I've net let someone else work on my cars and its a show truck so I was right there the whole time which I know was probably annoying but he understood I needed to see it all, great price and great guy

    Great video I’ve been going back and forth using this video. I have a question tho, I noticed that you put the old crankshaft bolt on while putting the cam cover on. How did you remove the bolt to put to harmonic balancer on?

    Last time I worked in my '14 4.3L Lv3. I found removing the fuel Injectors was not necessary since there are no head bolts like in the Vortec.

    Did you have any problems with it showing mileage after? Mine is not showing mileage no more and I'm also getting theft deterrent and service park assist when I don't even have bumper sensors. Any suggestions on how to fix that?
