I think Guy makes a brilliant travel pundit. He shows upmost respect and intrigue for the area and it's people. No pretentiousness at all. Like an inquisitive little boy in awe of it all.

the state persecution of these people worries me. the region is managed by the same official who spearheaded China's hostile occupation of Tibet. sadly the restrictions Uighyr are under in the province, is disturbing. surveillance abounds, people vanish and there are reports of human rights abuses. i think if we want to be able to travel to and see these people and inspiring cultures thrive, we need to be vocal critics of official bodies, states or organisations that would seek to eradicate them. approach people with empathy and resist entities that try to get you to bend to fear and distrust.
