Modakeke is not a town, it's an area within Ile-Ife. All sign posts in Modakeke read "Madakeke, Ile-Ife" until 1981 when the rebellion started under the leadership of Chief Alawode working with NPN to fulfil his political ambition. He Chief Alawode was made blind by his Modakeke brothers after advising his Modakeke brothers to stop the agitation as they could not win the battle against Ile-Ife.
