I am so excited to give an update! 😬 So my very first batch I made a couple weeks ago was strawberry lemonade Kombucha and it was pretty good. I just bottled my 2nd batch yesterday which was pineapple and mango. My tester bottle was already quite firm so I burped one of my ez cap bottles and it’s pretty carbonated. I may burp the others and let it go 1 more day. I even enjoyed the little I had left over right out of the fermenting jar! Why I never tried Kombucha until recently is a mystery lol! And homemade is SO much better and better for you! I love it and all the different flavors to play around with. Thank you again for all your knowledge and instructions on fermenting! Good day from South Africa. I'm a big kombucha fan since finding out how easy it is to make your own brew. A friend of mine gave me a SCOBY about four months ago and I haven't looked back since! My Kombucha is delicious (far more flavourful than the store bought), very healthy (especially if you need help with your digestive system) and cost a small fraction of store bought! I am delighted with the new ideas you are coming up with regards to unusual flavours and I am definitely going to try them. Thank you for your very interesting videos and for sharing your knowledge. I have just started off on the Ginger bug program watching your videos. Struggling a bit to get the bug to wake up but I will keep going and hopefully it's just maybe the cold spell we are going through that is hindering the progress. No bubbles yet and we are on day 3 but it smells delicious and looks cloudy. So waiting to see what happens. Thank you again and keep up the good work.
Welcome to our channel Joan Ray, and thank you for watching! We love Kombucha and our ginger bug drinks, and well, we just love fermented drinks! 😆 How is your ginger bug looking? It's not surprising to have a slow start after 3 days in colder climates. It is a good sign that it started to look cloudy.
@@FermentationAdventure question though: do I throw away the rest of my starter tea that I made to grown my first scoby (from a bottle of store bought kombucha )after I reserved a cup or two for second ferment ?

Thank you so much for your helpful videos. I have been trying all different flavors of kombucha. The first batch was ginger lemon, but then I tried raspberry. My husband found some fresh ripe peaches and that was the best kombucha. Pineapple was really good, then we did pineapple mango and pineapple cherry. I just bottled up some dragon fruit with mango last night, hope it is good, too. It really is as easy as you show in your videos, just put the fruit in the bottom and let it sit a few days. I've also got one of my daughters-in-law helping me and happy with payment of a couple bottles to take home. She just needs to bring the empties back!!! Thanks!

Hi everyone! Welcome to our channel and thanks for stopping by to learn about making kombucha! 😄🥰If you're wondering about how to make and maintain a scoby hotel, we wanted to share a quick overview here. A scoby hotel is basically one big jar of plain sweet tea that you can place all your scobies in so that you can store them for future use. You would just need to keep refreshing the sweet tea every 6 weeks or so by dumping out most (but not all) of the liquid and then topping the scoby hotel back up with fresh sweet tea. It's basically like continually creating kombucha on the counter. 😄Oh, if you're wondering how to make your own scoby from scatch, then check out this video --> th-cam.com/video/g9n2U9srchE/w-d-xo.html And if you haven't already, we'd love for you to subscribe! Happy fermenting!
Oh yum! We love raspberries! We used it in our water kefir video, but will have to give it a try in Kombucha! We're curious if you prefer to strain off the seeds or leave them in?
I love add in pineapple juice to my second fermentation! I’m literally about to bottle more kombucha tomorrow and I think I will grab a jalapeño for one of my pineapple bottles. I love using GT 1.4 litre bottles because I only have to bottle three bottles per gallon. Also, when the kin begins to bubble then I cold crash it for a few hours to trap the carbonation and then open it to see if it’s fizzy enough for me. I’ll never go back to swing top bottles
Hello! The GT kombucha can be found at various stores, like Target. These are the bottles @beep-beep was referring to. You can also check out the flip top bottles online (amzn.to/3OJLiN4)
Hi there! I’m new to fermentation and your videos are the best starter guide! Thank you! I have a question : what do you do with your starter tea after you have made your first scoby? I removed the Scoby to make fresh kombucha, and I don’t know what to do with the leftover tea. 😮😊
Hello! We're happy you're enjoying our channel and we're excited that you're getting into the awesome world of fermenting! The starter tea will likely smell and taste very strongly of vinegar. You could cook with it as you would with apple cider vinegar, and you could also use it to clean since it is so strong. Hope that helps!
Hello! That video's not out yet, but the scoby hotel is basically one big jar of plain sweet tea that you can place all your scobies in so that you can store them for future use. You would just need to keep refreshing the sweet tea every 6 weeks or so by dumping out most (but not all) of the liquid and then topping the scoby hotel back up with fresh sweet tea. It's basically like continually creating kombucha on the counter. Hope that helps! 😄
Thanks for the suggestion Jeff! We'll definitely do a video on the in the future! In the meantime, there's not a ton you have to do with it. You can always drain off most of the liquid and add fresh cooled sweet tea if you want to keep a bunch of scobies happy. We hope that helps and thanks for watching!
We're excited for you to get into making Kombucha! For the beer bottles, we usually just use a little soapy hot water to wash. Then we let them air dry upside down. We've been using this rack for years: amzn.to/4bapoLm Hope that helps!
Thank you! We'd recommend still putting the bottles in the refrigerator when you're not drinking them, and then just remove a bottle from the fridge a few hours before you'd like to drink some. When it's out of the fridge, it could possibly start to build up some more pressure in the bottles, so we'd recommend burping it after you've taken it out of the fridge or to leave the top open while you wait for it to warm up.
Ooooo that would be so good! We haven't tried making a coke imitation yet but that would be a good one! We'll have to look that one up and get creative. Until then you can use ginger ale or any of the other sodas for some good mixers!
Thanks for the question! We'll have to get a video out on that sometime soon. You can just cover your scobies with fresh sweet tea and leave it for a long time the same way you would with making kombucha. Hope your kombucha is going well!
I am just discovering your channel on my fermenting journey. I don't know if it's been suggested but, for serious heat lovers, the fruitiness and heat of the habanero could work well with a larger batch. I have integrated habaneros into my detox recipe and may have to with your recipe. I grew my own this year and have plenty to experiment with.
Welcome! We're glad you found us! Yum, homegrown habaneros?! Homegrown is the best. 💓 Enjoy them! In addition to fermenting them and making hot sauce, we also freeze hot peppers when we have too many.
We hope we've helped get you started! We haven't made that video yet but basically you can just put scobies in a large jar with a little finished kombucha and fill it with sweet tea. That should keep for a long time on the counter. Really though whenever we've saved scobies we never seem to use them! 🙂
Hi! It's kind of crazy, but no, we haven't gotten around to recording that one, but... the scoby hotel is basically like keeping a batch of kombucha going on the counter at room temperature, where you would continue to refresh with fresh sweet tea occasionally. And the scobys would continue to multiply, so you would probably end up with more scobys than you need, so some people will eat them, make them into jerky, or candied scobys. Or better yet, gift them to friends! Hope that helps!
Thank you for 2nd fermentation info! The scoby is not needed. Only starter tea matters. You're better of discarding it after each batch for consistency. It's simply the by-product of the yeast and bacteria doing their thing.
So true! I think we just like to keep it in there but you definitely don't need to keep the scoby. You're right. The starter is all the really matters. Thanks so much for your suggestion! 😊

Hello guys, thank you for sharing this recipe. It is awesome. I don't know what should I do with this scoby. Any suggestions? Thank you.
Hi really enjoyed watching your videos thank you for all your tips. I am now on my first Kombucha journey, I'm doing a second fermentation with raspberries and other fruits and it looks like it's ready for refrigeration. How long will it keep in the fridge with the fruit in it (if I don't drink it all in a couple of days that is🤭) ?
Thanks so much for the love Sandra! ❤️❤️❤️ We've stored ours in the fridge for extended periods and it's been fine for us since the pH is down in the acid range. Of course you always want to make sure there's no mold, smells good, tastes good etc. We hope that helps!

Hi guys great video thank you! Im new to kombucha and your video has given me the courage to begin my first ferment. Just wondering what size bottles you are using in the video. I have 1lt swingtop bottles and just trying to work out the ratio of fresh fruit. Thank you 😊
I am very excited to start this process and I just ordered 1/2 gallon jars and lids with handles 😀 My question is... after I begin this how long before I can drink my first kombucha? Thanks guys!
It depends on how warm your house is and how active the kombucha culture is but I'm sure you'll have some delicious kombucha pretty quick! It really depends on how strong you like the vinegar taste so probably in a week or less if you like!
You're so welcome! The secondary fermentation can be anywhere from a day or two up to a handful of days if you like. It all depends on the flavor you like. Good luck and happy fermenting!
Hey Fermentation Adventure! I was the guy who requested a Kvass video a while back!. Would it be possible if you could do another video however I am curious about Banana Beer. (similar to a ginger ale or more alcoholic if you wanted.) The reason I am requesting this, is because it seems to be quite difficult to properly settle all the solids in banana. I made an amazing banana beer but it was cloudy due to the banana sediment. Maybe if I had waited longer they would have fully settled to the bottom? I'd love to see you two do a video on making a crystal clear beverage. Its an amazing desert beer and goes well with many things (like coconut icecream :) *I saw you two had that* )
Thank you for the ideas! We are trying best we can to get to a long list of videos we'd like to make, so we'll get there! Banana beer sounds really interesting! And definitely we'll talk about racking off your ferment in the future to get a clear drink. For now, you could try pouring the drink without stirring it up first.
I have a question, I just grew my 1 st Scoby thanks to your video. Can I use the liquid from this jar to make my Kombucha from? Nevermind I rewatched this video and you answered my question?
After trying your ginger bug recipe, which started off great 5 days later, went flat the all bubbles fizz disappeared before I could make anything, so I thought ill try this see how it goes.
Great videos, quick question, how do you guys top up the Scoby Hotel? When I start a brew after having created my first scoby I took 2 cups of bucha out of the hotel with the scoby for my first brew. How would I go about topping of the scoby hotel now? Do I brew additional tea with sugar and just top it off, can I just top off with water, or do I take 2 cups out of my first brew and put it in the scoby hotel? What options are viable?
Hello! The scoby hotel is basically like continually creating kombucha on the counter. You would just need to keep refreshing the sweet tea every so often. When you use some of it, you can top it off with fresh sweet tea. Hope that helps! 😄
Thanks for the question! A scoby hotel is really just another jar that has a little bit of kombucha in it along with a fresh batch of sweet tea. You can store your extra scobies there in case you need one for later. Every once in a while (maybe a month or so) just drain and refresh with sweet tea. We hope that helps! 😊
Hello! The kombucha starter is pretty much some kombucha liquid that has finished fermenting. We usually like to add a SCOBY as well, to help the ferment really get started. And in case you need it, we show you how to make a SCOBY in our other kombucha video: th-cam.com/video/g9n2U9srchE/w-d-xo.html. Happy fermenting!
Hi! Thank you very much! Yes it certainly could because your fermented drink is alive and keeps on fermenting. Refrigeration slows down the fermentation process a lot, but doesn't completely stop it. Make sure to use a pressure safe container in the refrigerator and also to burp the bottles every now and then to get rid of the excess gases.
@FermentationAdventure so, what can be done to keep this from happening? How do store bought bottles not burst in the fridge? Sorry, but I'm new to this.
We've actually never had a ferment explode in the fridge, so it's not like it's a common thing. Thank goodness and also knock on wood! It should be fine as long as you use a pressure safe bottle. And if you plan to refrigerate for a long time, then plan to open the bottles every month or so. We even go much longer, but should be fine if you do this monthly.
Most likely you should be able to use that as a starter culture as long as the bottle says that there are live cultures. Some brand pasteurize their kombucha to prevent it from turning more alcoholic. We hope that helps! 😊
So helpful and I feel much more confident in my ability to make own kombucha at home now! I am still wondering if I need to "burp" the flavored kombucha every day after I move it to the fridge and begin drinking from it or there is a point where there is no longer a cause for concern that it will explode?
Hi! That's great that you're getting into the fun world of fermentation! How much burping is needed really just depends on how active the ferment still is, meaning how quickly the pressure is building. If you wait to refrigerate your kombucha until it is less active, then there will be less concern while it is in the fridge since the fermentation process will slow way down in the cool temps. If you notice the pressure still builds quickly, then you may want to burp it more regularly. Hope that helps!
Yay! We're glad you found us! It's definitely possible to ship a scoby. We bought our first scoby online, for example: amzn.to/2PQvAEp. You can use honey to sweeten your tea, and the scoby would also feed on those sugars. As for fruit juice, you could use it to help flavor your kombucha tea, but just make sure it's a juice that doesn't have any preservatives that would kill off your living culture. In case you're interested, we also talk about those preservative issues in this video: th-cam.com/video/CtpM1ouPt8k/w-d-xo.html
Hello! You should do a video about the Scoby hotel! Also, if I am going to make kombucha, can I leave the starter tea without scoby for a week? Or should I cut my scoby in half? (one for the starter tea and other for my first kombucha batch)

😮 Wow! What a great idea! I bet it tastes like a fruit scoby candy once it's all dried. Thank you so much for the inspiration!
@@FermentationAdventure absolutely! You can use basically any juice for it.
Awesome!
Well presented can’t wait to get started …day one…wish me luck…stay blessed
Best of luck and happy fermenting to you!! 😄
I am so excited to give an update! 😬
So my very first batch I made a couple weeks ago was strawberry lemonade Kombucha and it was pretty good. Love your channel! 🤗❤️
That's amazing to hear LeAnn! 🎉🎉🎉 Wow strawberry lemonade and pineapple mango sounds SO GOOD! If you find any really amazing flavors let us know. We love hearing from you! 💓
@@FermentationAdventure Aww love you guys, you’re so awesome!! I sure will let you know if I come up with some more! I just made Raspberry Lemonade and that one too is delicious! 😍
I got a SCOBY today and am prepping on how to do it by watching your videos. The jalapena pinapple one seems exciting, Ill have to try that!
That's so awesome Alexandra! We're excited for you! There's an infinite number of flavor combinations so if you find any you love, let us know! Happy fermenting!
I am new to kombucha and so happy to find this channel, excited to try my 1st kombucha
Aww, that's awesome! We're glad you found us too! Good luck with your Kombucha!
“Scoby Hotel” love it!😂💕:0)
Why not?! They have to live somewhere! 😂
Wow, you're always so happy, laughing, smiling and having fun together, I admire the synergy and once again learned something from y'all, thank you!
Thank you so much Kevin! There's a lot to be happy about in life and so much to discover. So happy you're enjoying our videos! ❤️
Thank God for u guys ! Answered every one of my questions
We're so happy we helped you on your fermentation journey! Thanks so much for watching!
@@FermentationAdventure question though: do I throw away the rest of my starter tea that I made to grown my first scoby (from a bottle of store bought kombucha )after I reserved a cup or two for second ferment ?
I enjoyed watching you both at the same time learning. So sorry that I just started liking kombucha. Watching you from the Philippines. Thank you so much.

very helpful video, brewing my first Kombucha as I write.
Fantastic! We're sure it will taste amazing! Did you add any fruit or other flavors?
I love yalls energy. I'm definitely going to make my own at home!
Thank you so much! Happy fermenting!! 😄
Yummy! my favorite flavors are Meyer lemon and ginger.
Yum! Do you add the juice of the lemon, the zest, or both?
Thanks!
Oh my goodness! That's amazing! What a wonderful assortment of kombucha flavors! Thank you so much for being a part of our fermentation adventure! Thank you so much for being a part of our fermentation adventure! ❤️

Thanks for making these videos!!
Thanks so much for the videos and info. Does the eco y hotel need to be refrigerated?
Thank you! The Scoby Hotel should not be refrigerated. Scobies do best at room temperature. 😄
Thank you guys for such a fun and helpful video! You two are adorable together 🤍🙏🏼🫶🏼
Thanks so much! We love our fermentation journey and so happy to share it with you!

I love your videos, I like flavoring with raspberries, turns the kombucha a nice ruby red color
Oh yum! We love raspberries! We used it in our water kefir video, but will have to give it a try in Kombucha! We're curious if you prefer to strain off the seeds or leave them in?
@@FermentationAdventure I just mash them with a fork and then just drink them with the kombucha, I do remove the new scoby that grows though
The Pineapple Jalapeno sounds so tasty..
It had a nice flavor! The fruit and peppers have a sweet and spicy taste to it. Try it out!
Try South African Rooibos tea it's so healthy and tastes amazing.
Thanks for the tip! Is it possible this tea is made by fermenting the leaves of a certain shrub native to South Africa?
Thanks!
Thanks for flavorings ideas, going to try something similar on the second tepache ferment.

I knew of scoby years ago. How could I purchase some.
You can also make your own SCOBY by following this process: th-cam.com/video/g9n2U9srchE/w-d-xo.html
Hi, where did you find those bottles? Thanks!
Hello! The GT kombucha can be found at various stores, like Target. These are the bottles @beep-beep was referring to. You can also check out the flip top bottles online (amzn.to/3OJLiN4)
Literally on my 10th day too and just told my mom how light and yummy it is 🥰 this is my first brew so thank you for the tips!
@meggy0249, hi, but will not explode if I keep it for one month or more in a sealed bottle? let me know please
How many days is the secondary ferment?
@@jonahoftonga1786 I 2F for 2-4 days depending oh the house temp. Warmer temps speed up fermentation
Dobyou have a video on making and maintaining a scoby hotel?
God bless you guys for sharing ❤🙏😇
Thank you! Happy fermenting! 🥰
Where could I purchase natural scoby from.
The easiest method is probably to just purchase one online. We've used this one before: amzn.to/2PQvAEp
Thanks for these videos, just wondering if you're able to do a video on how to look after. A scoby hotel? What maintenance is required etc? Thanks
Just got my scoby and can’t wait to try your recipes 🙌🏼But how do you wash those beer bottles?
We're excited for you to get into making Kombucha! For the beer bottles, we usually just use a little soapy hot water to wash. Then we let them air dry upside down. We've been using this rack for years: amzn.to/4bapoLm Hope that helps!
Thank you very much
Happy to help! 😄
Can I use a scobe out of my apple cidar vinegar?
Very informative! Can you please tell me how many days ready kombucha can stay out of the fridge, because I don't like cold drinks.
I am just learning how to ferment and I love your channel. Do you have a recipe for a generic fermented coke? I need something to mix with my bourbon.
Ooooo that would be so good! We haven't tried making a coke imitation yet but that would be a good one! We'll have to look that one up and get creative. Until then you can use ginger ale or any of the other sodas for some good mixers!
Love your videos and your energy!
Thank you so much Brenda! Your kindness is much appreciated and we are glad you are a part of our fermentation culture!
Waiting for the video about taking care of the Scoby. Should it be stored in the fridge or on the counter and with a lid or just a cloth?
Your the best! I bought the synergy raw kombucha but I put it in the fridge waiting till I can do the process. Did I mess it up? ❤
Hey there! Refrigerating the kombucha is perfectly fine. 😄
wish yall kept up this series!
Hi! We will! Thank you for the support! So many ideas on the horizon. We'll be back at it soon! 💗
Great video, just starting our fermentation journey. Did you ever make the Scoby Hotel video??
Wow this is great love your channel

Hello guys, thank you for sharing this recipe. It is awesome. First time, I made Kombucha and two days ago, I flavored(secindary fermentation) it with pineapple and it turned out awesome, so delicious. But it has also formed a small baby scoby in the bottle. new sub here. you popped up on my home page an sooo happy you did!!!!
Welcome to our channel Carolyn! We're so glad you found us!
I love all that you both are doing love watching you. so I'm on day two of my ginger bug and all the ginger has floated to the top but other then that it all looks great nice amount of bubbles, so I'm happy, but let me know if that's an issue. Take care love to keep watching
Woohoo! That's great to hear Heid! It sounds like you're on your way to some tasty ginger ale. Once you get a good batch it's addicting especially when you have your friends and family try it. Thanks for the love and let us know how it goes! ❤️❤️❤️
Can you link your leak proof tops you use to pour the kombucha?

We're glad you liked the video!
Would a coffee filter be ok to use instead of a tight knit dish cloth to cover the jar?
Hi! Yes, a coffee filter would work great. Especially if you're able to secure it to the top of the jar using a rubber band, then it would be sealed but still allow oxygen to flow through it.
@@FermentationAdventure thank you so much :)

Hi guys great video thank you! Im new to kombucha and your video has given me the courage to begin my first ferment. Just wondering what size bottles you are using in the video. I have 1lt swingtop bottles and just trying to work out the ratio of fresh fruit. Thank you 😊
Thank you so much for watching! We're excited to hear you're starting your kombucha journey! The pressure-safe flip-top bottles we use are 16 ounces.
Súper video me encantooooooo😊
Muchas gracias!! 🥰
Thank you for the video again! Can I know how long is the 2nd fermentation from end to end?
You're so welcome! The secondary fermentation can be anywhere from a day or two up to a handful of days if you like. It all depends on the flavor you like. Good luck and happy fermenting!
Really a great video! 👍
Thanks Katie!
Hey Fermentation Adventure! I was the guy who requested a Kvass video a while back!.
Would it be possible if you could do another video however I am curious about Banana Beer. (similar to a ginger ale or more alcoholic if you wanted.)
The reason I am requesting this, is because it seems to be quite difficult to properly settle all the solids in banana.
Banana beer?!?!?!
Sounds awesome!
This was very helpful, thanks 💪🏽🇺🇸
Our pleasure! We're so happy you enjoyed it!
You guys are great. Thank you.
Hi! Thanks so much!! ❤️
I have a question, I just grew my 1 st Scoby thanks to your video. Can I use the liquid from this jar to make my Kombucha from?
Nevermind I rewatched this video and you answered my question?
Yes, you got it! That would be your starter culture for making Kombucha. 😄
After trying your ginger bug recipe, which started off great 5 days later, went flat the all bubbles fizz disappeared before I could make anything, so I thought ill try this see how it goes.
Hi! We'd love to hear how your kombucha journey worked out?
Hi what’s in the scobie hotel? And how long can they stay in there?
Thanks for the question! A scoby hotel is really just another jar that has a little bit of kombucha in it along with a fresh batch of sweet tea. You can store your extra scobies there in case you need one for later. Every once in a while (maybe a month or so) just drain and refresh with sweet tea. We hope that helps! 😊
Is the Scoby hotel the kombucha starter, how long can in stay in the jar?
@ thank you! I followed your video on how to make a Scoby and it turned out great!
Yay! We're so happy to hear that! 😀
Hi, I love your channel! Question. Once you refrigerate, can it still become a glass bomb?
Great info!
Can you use two scobys for a bigger batch? I'm so nervous to try!
In fermentation when do we use cloth or airlock as a cover?
You two are adorable.
Thank you so much Michelle! ❤️❤️❤️ You just made us smile.
Can I use the canned fizzy kombu for a starter culture?
Most likely you should be able to use that as a starter culture as long as the bottle says that there are live cultures. Some brand pasteurize their kombucha to prevent it from turning more alcoholic. We hope that helps! 😊
@@FermentationAdventure thank you
I did try it .over the course of three weeks I got a tiny scoby but had to discard it because it grew mold.
I am so excited to find your channel, but I have a question OR 20!!!! LOL! Can you use fruit JUICE in them, Can you use Honey? can you ship a scoby?
