Appreciate the break down, I too believe this is a song about lovers having to explain/show their past traumas/experiences in relationships to fully understand eachother, to show them love.
Great analysis, and yes it does fit nicely with albums in tone and lyrically (especially with TPWBYT). Over the last 3 years SleepToken has grown into one of my all-time favorite bands. I think this was the 2nd track I heard from them after the Offering, and it’s still a top 5 favorite Sleep Token song for me even now. I have always considered this and Telomeres sister tracks, another one of my favorites…..
Another insightful breakdown. Really appreciate your work. Now, if you wouldn't mind wishing me luck beating the ticket master bots on Wednesday, I'd be happy to return the favor if you're looking at a show this year too!
Jaws was one of the first songs I heard from them. I wish I could remember exactly which one was first for me. I think it was either Jaws or Calcutta, but I just can't be sure. It's possible it was The Offering if they released that before the official Sundowning drop. What I can be sure about is how I first heard of them. There was a short comment thread on another band's video I was watching at the time in which someone mentioned "you should check out these guys Sleep Token, they're satanists", followed by another person clarifying they don't worship Satan, but rather the God of Sleep. In any case I was intrigued, and the rest is history.
Last thing. Sleep Token is taking a couple months break before their tour kicks off again, what are the chances we get a one-off single like Jaws out of that? Could be called "The Teeth of God" 🤔
So I didn't beat out the bots unfortunately... If they release a new single that will be super interesting considering they are at a crossroads with the end of the trilogy. I'm wondering if their sound will be changing since the band's look has also changed.
