- ST LUCIA, KZN is definitely one of our favourite places in South Africa. There are not many places you can see Rhinos only a few hundred meters from one of the most wild and beautiful coastlines in Africa.
Our journey starts by checking into our beautiful accommodation, Perna Perna. We then ventured out on Saturday through the iSimangaliso Wetland Park to Cape Vidal Beach. Our busy day ended with a cruise in the St Lucia Estuary and dinner in town.
Only two hours from King Shaka International Airport, St Lucia is definitely worth a visit if you ever decide to visit KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. We can also highly recommend the accommodation at Perna Perna.

Absolutely beautiful town, the ferry when you just enter the town and all the indegenous artists, the canoe fishing right behind your flat, Lake St Lucia, Umfolozi and Hluhluwe game reserve not far away. Heaven on earth. I last visited there in 1996 and want to do it again.

Thank you for sharing St.Lucia with us. My last time there was in 1995 at the very young age of 25. It is due to my late friend, Debbie Nel-Baker and all that petitioned with her against the total destruction of St.Lucia by a certain company at that time, that St.Lucia is still reserved as a beautiful piece of nature. I love Saint Lucia, we live close by but we did a staycation twice. First time we stayed at Monzi safaris; which is camping inspired accommodation very cool. And the second time was at Little Eden; a self catering modern apartment so stunning the view was everything.
Isimangaliso as the name suggest it’s magical, the lakes, river and ocean meet. We went up on that hill and spotted whales, so relaxing
There’s a place by Engen garage that has the best fish I’ve even tasted. Next time you go please check it out, you won’t regret it

Wow, that is unbelievable! Rhino, zebra, and an ocean view...it doesn't get better than that! And I've never seen that many hippos together like that before. What an amazing cruise. When we come to South Africa we are definitely doing all of the above! I love the word of the day idea. Very cool!

That water!!! It was amaaazing, it was so warm, we didn’t want to get out 😅
Yeah, we got lucky with seeing so many animals.
Unfortunately it didn’t happen when we were there...but about 2 weeks afterwards we saw on the St Lucia Facebook pages that hippos were roaming the streets at night 😅 it happens quite often apparently. Would’ve been cool for our video 🙈
@@BeingBedingfield One night there was a hippo walking in the middle of the street! Very strange experience to see such a Whopper roaming around.

This seems like it was an incredible weekend getaway and I can't believe thats all only 2 hours away from you. I would love to explore there and see some crocodiles and zebras and all of the other animals. Very cool learning some new words too!! Definitely an action packed adventure. Your St Lucia was absolutely true to this lovely little town, I lived in Empangeni for 9 years and now I unfortunately live up in Johannesburg. Your videos most certainly make me fall in love all over again with our beautiful country, there is so much to be thankful and grateful for. Loved your Amanzimtoti video, that was my family's holiday destination every year as my parents owned a holiday flat in Amanzi on the 6th floor, I had the best holidays there ever. Did not know there was a bird park or Japanese gardens, will def make a visit there again. Keep up the great videos, way to go to make those who have left sunny SA homesick. Great work you 2!!!

Wow that was such a cool nature tour! Definitely a unique experience to see the rhinos and zebras with the ocean as a backdrop. That beach you went snorkeling at was really pretty too!
That is so incredibly true, we've never seen rhinos and hippos in the wild like that and we cannot wait to one day visit south Africa and experience all the incredible wildlife there. That's really cool they let you bring your own alcohol on to the cruise, for sure a solid pro tip to make it a little more affordable and enjoyable 😉 great way to end the day with that sunset too right after no less wow! It always stinks to rush a trip but glad you jam packed it all in with the help of a fellow TH-camr!

Always the best idea to have a snorkel, we don’t go on a road trip without!🤿 Amazing scenery with the rhinos, they have a pretty good view too!

My late husband and I spent 3 amazing weeks in St Lucia before coming to the UK. What an awesome treasure the place is with the friendliest people. I have very happy memories. Loved the 2 whale watching tours we did, that was an adventure.

What an amazing place. To experience a game park on its own is amazing enough, but to see it with an ocean backdrop is a whole other level! The Barracca Restaurant on Sunset Jetty looked amazing and is so our type of place! We can't ever seem to pass up dinner and drinks on the water at sunset. Those bird footprints were huge! We are curious about what type of bird that was as well. Amazing video guys! So cool that you live so close to such a great place.
Thanks guys. It is honestly the greatest feeling to see Rhinos and the beach in the same view. We had such an awesome time. We are not even sure if those were actually bird prints. They could have been some other animal. I can see all of us having dinner and drinks at that restaurant in the future sometime. :-)

@@BeingBedingfield I've got pics that my late dad took of us down at estuary mouth when I was barely walking, it's a very special place for me. Both my parents ashes have been scattered in estuary. Hope one day I'll return to this special place. 👍

Thank you so much! We had an amazing time. All the fisherman leave their cars parked on the beach while they are out fishing. Hippos look cute, however they are one of the most dangerous animals in the world. So we kept our distance. Thanks for watching :-)

Did you see the guy at the Estuary boardwalk selling those green monkey oranges?
Lots of flamingos over there as well, absolutely amazing!🦩🦩🦩🦩
We also did a guided bicycle tour with a Zulu guide, so interesting and much fun! It offers a 3hrs tour with bird watching and game viewing inside the park. 🦓🐃🦓
Try a Craft beer at Ocean Basket; it is worth visiting too. Delicious pizza and beer. 😊🍕🍻
The most exciting of all was the whale watching aboard of the Advantage Cruiser. Huge humpback whales so close by!!
By the way, do you guys live in Ballito or in Durban?

We were at the boardwalk very early, there was only one vendor who was still busy setting up. And unfortunately we didn’t see any flamingos ☹️

We are okay, we have just beaten the peak of the third wave, numbers in the hospitals are finally decreasing and hopefully more relaxation will be announced soon by our government. Even though the curfew and lockdown have been discontinued, quite a lot of restrictions still apply.
If we visit SA again, we can enjoy a coffee or a beer at the Lifestyle center! Cool place to meet. 👍

Hello, I am planning a visit of South Africa for three weeks in September and I would like to have a mix of adventure and relaxing time. Do you know if in September it's possible to enjoy the beach in a bikini in St Lucia or if it's too cold ? Thank you :)
That’s so exciting 🤗 September might not be the best weather for the beach, but definitely take your swimwear just in case!
