    Capt Obvious statement of the day: We'll learn if this defense is historic or just really really good in 5 days.

    Daaang Dae Dae's block destruction on that 3rd down screen was unreal. Just a crazy good overall game from him.

    I said somewhere else; it's really hard to judge how much the defense has gotten better against a team that doesn't have the speed or depth to compete against PSU.
    Mid-term exam for this team is in 5 days. As always, a great way to learn about football from you, coach.

    Great stuff Coach. Love seeing and learning of the complexities the D is offering under Manny D! Looking forward to tOSU! Can't wait to see what Manny is dialing up!

    Great stuff! On 3rd and 6 with the 5 DBs at 10-12 yards, why the extra cushion? Granted they blew up the play because it went wide (Hardy go boom). But we’ve seen the quick underneath get close to or reach the first down.

    Would you classify the defense as "disciplined" at this point in season? That's what will be needed to beat OSU/Michigan. Or would you say they are a bunch of superior athletes able to overwhelm mediocre defenses thus far?

    This defense is fun to watch but I'm nervous to see how the front 7 holds up against the 2 big o-lines they are about to face. I think they can take over the OSU game.😊

      Famous last words/Old Takes Exposed alert but we feel really good about Penn State's DL vs OSU's OL

    Phommachanh was still staying in the pocket in his third game back from knee injury at Auburn. McCord isn't a scrambler but what do we do next week? Can't bring the house, in cover 1, with man on Stover and Harrison. [And Egbuka if healthy] Can't afford not to pressure McCord. Don't have the offense to match explosive plays when we break instead of bending to the underneath option.

    • @ForTheBlogy
      @ForTheBlogy  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think Penn State has a good shot at getting pressure with 4 considering the talent and depth of their DEs. It will be interesting how Diaz handles 3rd and long since his aggressiveness hurt him on that key one -- the slant to Harrison on like 3rd and 8 -- late in the 4th quarter last year.

    • @chuckyjamesamartin1968
      @chuckyjamesamartin1968 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ForTheBlogy Yeah, he dialed down the aggressiveness in the 4th quarter last year and it was one of the things that cost us

    Manny Diaz will be offered a head coaching job at a big time school this off-season..we need to retain him and these Belichickian schemes

    What's the rule on that first hit against the receiver? How is that not some sort of holding or PI? Is it the 5 yard contact?

    • @ForTheBlogy
      @ForTheBlogy  ปีที่แล้ว

      What Is Illegal Contact In Football? Per the NFL rulebook, defenders may only make contact with a receiver within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage. However, defenders in college and high school may contact a receiver as long as the ball is not in the air.

    • @jwisor93
      @jwisor93 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ForTheBlogy That is insane. I never knew that. Seems like it would happen more often? Or maybe I just never see it because of where the camera is pointed?

    Are you worried those blitzes wit man coverage on 3rd down will lead to HUGE QB runs by good QB’s? Bc I am. My favorite blitz is the fake 8 and drop 2-3 into coverage

  • @whokilledthmessenger
    @whokilledthmessenger ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Is the re-route on the first play not a defensive pi? It was deeper than 5 yards. Love the execution here, but I'm worried about us being called for that in the future.

    • @threefirstnames4187
      @threefirstnames4187 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's an NFL only rule. You can contact receivers in college so long as the ball isn't in the air regardless of how far down field they are (so long as you don't hold)

    • @jwisor93
      @jwisor93 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@threefirstnames4187 so a safety can just knock a guy down 20 yards downfield if the ball isn't in the air? Seems crazy

    • @threefirstnames4187
      @threefirstnames4187 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jwisor93 technically speaking yes you could. High risk though. As soon as the ball crosses the LOS that contact would be PI. It's also hard to play bump and run, if you miss or don't get a solid re-route they can end up wide open. I personally think CFB should adopt the NFL rule, but I love that Manny is taking advantage of it in that 6-10 yd area

    The new narrative about us is we didn't play anyone and we played the worst offenses so we aren't as good. They'll find out Saturday cause I have a feeling our DL will own their OL

    I hope I'm wrong but this seems like yet another season where Penn State is undefeated and ranked top 10 midway through but ends up 9-2 or 8-3 and in a meaningless bowl game. Why does the current coaching staff keep getting excited about crushing cupcakes then wondering why they can't beat Ohio State and Michigan? I miss Joe Pa and his program's approach, players not celebrating on the field after every good play, hammering weak schools, bringing in celebrities, losing big games, etc. I hate that PSU hired a head coach who tried to intimidate a girl into not reporting a SA to protect football players (at his prior head coaching job), and a coach who puts so much into his own image.

    Ohio State isn't scoring more than 24 on this group. It's going to come down to the offense's ability to control the ball and the clock as the factor for winning this game
