I hate all the people shitting on Tom Allen on Twitter - he is doing an amazing job and It’s unfortunate we lost a few key players early in the year! Thank you for this video - it’s awesome to see the X’s and O’s. I can honestly say I’ve understood the chess match between offense and defence a lot better since I started watching your breakdowns
Merry Christmas! Damn I really appreciate this content and all ur hard work. Outstanding! I was discussed with the opening drive. A better decision by the SMU QB and that first drive changes the game. Why do u think the D is shaky on opening drives far too often
Merry Christmas to you too...and yes, once again PSU had big time trouble with tempo on that opening drive. We honestly think the issue is the fact that teams are taking advantage of the fact that the "green dot" defender (King) can't understand Allen over the speaker...the Allen-Connor-King game of telephone really slows things down and teams are aware of it.
Coach, do you see a mental toughness in this team that we haven't seen in previous years? I see a we're going to win any way it takes mentality. Maybe it's as simple as having an experienced QB, but when we get knocked down, we get back up swinging.
To be honest, I’d take Manny Diaz over Tom Allen at DC. I felt more confident. I know there’s not much difference in the overall record, put some teams have hung way too many points on our D. Obviously Oregon, but allowing BGSU to play a close game was pretty ridiculous. I know I’m nit-picking, but I hate having the talent that we have and always teetering on good and great. (Obviously I know that our Offense is a way bigger issue than our D, but I’m just staying on topic)
Besides Oregon, which teams would those be? Allen has done a masterful job working around the injuries we've had that have deprived us of our depth on defense. Those injuries forced him to utilize schemes he never intended to play, with players like Reed and Wheatley playing out of position. Diaz never had to deal with that. We were healthy all of last year.
I get your point, Manny has more “aggressive” play calling style but this Tom Allen lead defense is 4th in overall yards allows and 5th scoring defense. They playing great
@ you’re right, I’m nit-picking a lot about Tom Allen. And SMU had no clue what hit them as our D was very aggressive. In reality I have way more issues with our offense and what seems to be a slow development of Allar. Allar shows all of the telling signs of greatness and I love the fact that he does scramble if needed. But he shows so many signs of immaturity and timidness still in his play. Some of his decisions and throws are real head-scratchers. Now, it doesn’t help that we don’t have a strong WR core either. I feel that Allar is predictable and easy to read as a D. The offense seemed to be a different group when Pribula came in that Wisconsin game, in which Allar was struggling. There’s a slight disconnect somewhere that I can’t figure out. But good response, our D is pretty stout and I hope Allen doesn’t get too conservative and only focus on Jeanty in the BSU game next week. Though inconsistent, Maddux Madsen can throw plus he’s a Beau Pribula type of QB. I’m nervous about that aspect of the BSU offense.
@@robsherrill8130 yes, the health aspect is something I overlooked a bit. I thought his blunder of a game was Bowling Green. OSU and obviously Oregon are elite programs and I respect their talent- which sometimes there’s no true answer on how to defend. I thought he had the D playing a bit conservative against both OSU and Oregon. But also in the same breath, they have so many weapons and depth that maybe it’s smart to stay back and play conservative from a defensive perspective?

These film study vids are great.
Well done as always. I look forward to watching these every week. That was an absolute defensive clinic.

If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times...
TOM.
ALLEN.
IS.
A.
GUY.
Hands down best defense in the entire playoffs.
That's an undeniable fact!
