    Oh boy ... Sanitarium is so great... the first levels can scare one away but afterwards it drags one in deeper and deeper. Superb game but with occasional frustrating passages.

    "Cannon Fodder" - THE most difficult game to get running in 640k of memory with the luxuries of sound, mouse AND CD-Rom drivers. Now THERE'S a set of now completely useless skills ;P

    Blackthorn rocks! Even the Game Boy Advance version. I didn't play it back in the day because I was obsessed with 3D games at the time but I definitely missed out as a result. It’s absolutely one to recommend.
    Spelunky helped to make retro-modern platformers a mainstream thing & for good reason. It feels like Rick Dangerous (kind of) but actually makes use of modern hardware with it’s massive maps & animations etc.
    Sanitarium is like I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, you’ll complete it once & be glad you did but probably not want to play it again. It’s similar to movies like Grave of the Fireflies or Come and See, you’ll be glad you watched them but you’ll never watch them again.
    Cannon Fodder lives! It lives I tell you! The Amiga original was, at the time, fresh & original, making use of these newfangled “mouse” things & it played so well. It really was so much fun. It lives now thanks to the Open Fodder project that allows you to play it on modern hardware, which is a great way to experience it.
    I don’t know Chameleon… I mean I know the reptile, they’re wonderful & fun to keep but the game is new to me. You’ve made it sound interesting though?
    What an interesting list. You included 4 games I would also recommend & one that’s new to me, that makes for a great list, thank you.

    • @OldAndNewVideoGames
      @OldAndNewVideoGames  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah, Chameleon hardly anyone knew of. And now, it's nearly impossible to get. At least in retail, and no platform is carrying it because of some of the scenes in it (shooting of Israeli soldiers in one of the missions). Apparently at least. So, the only way to get it now other than finding it on flea markets or a random eBay sale would be through rather questionable means. And it's a pity, as it's a surprisingly good game. :)

    Cannon Fodder is so damn cool! I love it. The graphics are still very aesthetically pleasing IMO. It's a pretty tough game in places, the grenades were fantastic too, very satisfying. It's not connected to Cannon Fodder but I've recently been delving back into Brigador and I think that it's a newer game which will age very well because it has that old school sensibility.

    A great way to start the year, with a great video about some great games! 🥓 Happy New Year!
    I knew of Sanitarium and played a tiny bit, then decided to leave it for when I had more time and maybe make a video of it. It's different and tackles some deep subjects of mental health, so it's something I'm interested in.
    Spelunky and Blackthorne have been on my list from long ago and I'd definitely like to try them. :)
    For Cannon Fodder I'd definitely recommend the Amiga version too. Though that little song can easily become an ear-worm. :D
    I've never heard of Chameleon, but in the 2000s my gaming tastes didn't include this genre. It would be cool to check out. I've never played a stealth game, unless you count sneaking up on mom in the kitchen. :D Totally unintentionally though.

      Happy New Year! I'm actually going to be releasing another one of these Forgotten Treasures video next, as this week is going to be Hell. In Hell no less, so kinda fitting. But the next one, I think will be Windows 2001.
      Oh, and Spelunky is fantastic! Challenging, but fantastic! :)

    I think Chameleon was based on the TV show with the same title. About a tall guy who could never be caught, because he kept changing his identity or something. As a movie tie-in I don't think it needed advertising. And as such the players probably thought it a bad game.

    I'm not even sure if Kyle Blackthorne remembered Tuul really. He didn't intend to travel there. He was on the run after escaping trumped up charges because a warlord whose forces he ha been crushing during his Mercenary career made an offer to be good and not attack his neighbors to the UN if Blackthorne was charged with war crimes committed against the warlord's regime. And he uses a Pump Action Shotgun. While there are some Pump Action Double Barrel Shotguns they are rare enough i doubt his Shotgun is one of them.
    Also Blackthorne's homeland wasn't invaded by another world. The planet was divided into two nations and his kingdom got conquered by the other one. Blackthorne was one of the games that assured Shotguns would forever be among my favorite game weapons. As long as they have a decent magazine size. The only time I use a Shotgun that doesn't allow at least four shots between reloads is there are no four shot or more Shotguns available or it has a ridiculously fast reload speed. And the weapon upgrades in the game are just better Shotguns. My parents wouldn't let me play games with gore at home openly back then but the SNES version removed the blood. No major loss IMO.

    • @OldAndNewVideoGames
      @OldAndNewVideoGames  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      In Blackthorne, blood was only a part of the presentation indeed. In Mortal Kombat though, which infamously also didn't have it on SNES, it was one of the main reasons people touched it in the first place. Still, it was a great system, and other than the MK games, everything else about it was amazing.

      @@OldAndNewVideoGames Yeah but thats the thing with old "classics".
      I've tried to get into some of them recently and they just don't have modern design quality standards.
      There are modern games you can get that have as good stories without the pain of terrtible antiquated design. "Mouthwashing" for example.
      I tend to think with the old classics that its best if you got them on the first go around.
