Installing Nissan Almera Rear Springs on my K11 Micra

  • This video is a mess.
    I'm sorry.
    I bought a set of rear springs for an N16 Nissan Almera thinking they'd fit on the Micra and be stiffer and maybe lower than the lowering springs which I had on... and they did fit and work, kind of. Not very well though. As for now, this modification is a bit of a ''work in progress''. Watch until the end for a better explanation.

    im mega impressed with the work you put in and the different things you have a bash at, the wires everwhere video was impressive moving all the fuses and battery etc, and the ecu one, all of them, you know your gonna be doing a diy spray job one day

      Thanks mate, I do wanna say I'm not very proud of the battery relocation video, looking back on it now some of that work was fairly sketchy and I've had to fix it. 🤣
      As for a paint job, I'd probably wrap it instead as I'd be able to do that at home and try do it myself, still not 100% sure though🤷‍♂️

    You might consider fitting / making a couple cone type guides to fit in the top spring mount, common practice on Off Roaders.

      I was considering some sort of guide for the spring like that, but after reading some of the comments, I think the best solution is to get the Corsa B shocks, which are shorter.👍

    Cheapest I came up with on mine, 200sx s13 coilovers from maxpeedingrods. Cut the camberplate to the same size as the k11 top mount and drilled new mounting holes in the same spot as the k11. To have the camber bolts accessible I had to open up the "round" edge up top a bit and close it off again with a cut to size piece of tube. Bottom mount is as simple as drilling 2 new mounting holes and cutting off the excess bits. Used the supplied rear 7kg springs in front. Rear is the easiest, cut down the bottom metal bit sticking out of the bushing and then use a 20mm outside 12mm inside sleeve. Cut down lowering springs for a k11 and you can practically drop it down untill the panhard hits the body with the springs still captive.

      That sounds very interesting but might be a bit too complicated for my liking, think I'll go down the Corsa B setup option🤣

    Another alternative to the front springs could be the Smart 450 front springs, never tried but the diameter is the same (104mm).

    • @the_mintiest_micra
      @the_mintiest_micra  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It could work, I guess. My only concern is that the Smart is a way lighter car, I'd assume choosing springs from a heavier car would work out to be stiffer, which is what I was going for.🤷‍♂️

    hay dude
    me mate has got a k11 Micra he told me coilover setup from a Corsa C fit straight on to these with modified top mounts As for the rear i know its a separate coil and shock and well its the same for a Corsa C its just like the Micra where there separate so technically not coilovers all round for either cars however the parts still fit where you get lower height adjustable springs that slot n the rear i think you know what i mean basically buy a set for a Corsa C and with different front top mounts the kit will fit so i have been told by many o people including me mate who has done it to his. Hope this helps

    • @the_mintiest_micra
      @the_mintiest_micra  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's what I'll probably do, and keep the Almera springs and adjust them to fit if the Corsa ones don't fit great. From what I read on the forums, it's the Corsa B set up that fits. Is the Corsa C similar enough, do you know?

      @@the_mintiest_micra sorry that's the car a meant i think there the same don't quote me but on google they look the exact same but as for the springs to stop them popping out there is a hole on the spring seat in the middle which is perfect for what landrovers defender rear suspension springs have where you can run a bolt and a plate which you could then use to clamp the spring to the bottom of the suspension that way the spring will not fly out and you can happily cut as much as you need which i wouldn't really recommend doing as you mess with your spring rates which can have adverse affects on handling however you could do it temporary until you found lower springs. On my SoGood Racing sh1t post channel i could put in a link or if you have a social of some kind i could post some design to give you a better idea if your still struggling to see where am going at. If not happy days but if you do no worries al get some pics and show you.

      @Aptemafurry Ah ye I get what you mean, think I'll do as some of the comments were saying and install Corsa B shocks in the rear which are shorter and will keep the springs in, won't be cutting too much anyway and will make sure it's safe the way I do it, cheers though👍

    So, comparing them from the stock ones, would you recommend them?
    Noticed any difference driving with the almera springs?

    • @the_mintiest_micra
      @the_mintiest_micra  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, I definitely wouldn't recommend them unless you also fit some shorter shocks to keep the springs captive even when there's no load on the axle. The car isn't on the road at the moment, so I can't really tell you what it feels like when driving but they seem to be roughly the same stiffness as the lowering springs, not as low, but way cheaper.
      I'll make a follow-up video when I get coilovers for the front and shocks for the rear, and I'll try to get these springs to fit properly and safely.

    Why do everything to a little mirca would of been better with the MK1 and don't tell me it's not 1.3 that popping and banging is going to nacker the valves up why didn't just cut a coil off each one but got to be the same but won't pass the MOT

    • @the_mintiest_micra

      I'm doing a load of stuff to the car cause I like working on it and experimenting things. Couldn't find and didn't really want a K10, and yes, it is a 1.0l. I'll take it easy with the launch control, I'll tune it to not be so harsh on the engine and won't use it all the time.

    Can’t you research shorter shocks to prevent the springs coming out? I’ve cut springs before. The mistake people make is not heating the last half coil after the cut to bend it flat. Also note that the spring rate goes up proportionately to the amount cut. Not too noticeable if only cutting a coil or half.
