That event has turned the Baltic Sea into a body of water dominated by opponents to Russian power, limiting the control of the Kremlin to St. Petersburg and the Kalilingrad Oblast. Undoubtedly all the powerful Czars and Communist Party Central Committee Chairmen would be dismayed by how President Putin and his cronies have misplayed the great game for control of this politically and militarily sensitive area. One can only imagine how a jury of past Russian leaders would be judging the current Russian leader, a jury consisting of Prince Alexander Nevsky, Czar Peter the Great, Czarina Catherine the Great, Czar Alexander I, Chairman Stalin, Premier Kruschev, and General Secretary Brezhnev. As much as Vladimir Putin has dreamed of following in the footsteps of those emperors and strongmen his legacy is now one of stumbles and missteps which have seemingly weakened and diminished the place of Russia in the world.
Poltava is a great game and a lot of fun. I suggest trying 55 Days at Peking which is another game by THC that I found really fun.
