what can be done to combat misinformation on channel four news?
Terrible to see misinformation dominate online in such a way - intelligence, accuracy and integrity are essential to keeping people safe and a well-functioning society. It is fine to question, but tot spread nonsense, and even worse, for people to believe it, is very concerning.
The efficiency of misinformation is a sign of a failing education system. If people are taught how to discern likely untruths or recognise implausible statements and analyse what they hear and read, misinformation, propaganda and social media targeting would not be so dangerous.
annerigby,
no doubt that poor education and the ability to think critically plays a part in mis/disinformation and outright lies. That said their are clear signs that a great deal of "opinions" that are regularly voiced on Social Media platforms are being written by individuals who are there simply to antagonise and start off arguments, insults, slurs against those who can think for themselves. Comments sections that have no connection to the subject matter turn into arguments for the sake of it. The art of healthy debate has long vanished !
horrible , expecting people to use their brains and think for themselves!
@@geofo60 The fact that someone can wiggle their fingers on a keyboard and send insults, etc without seeing the person who receives it, makes it very easy. It is up to the sane people to decide to not participate, not fall into these mindless discussions. "Ignore them, they'll go away" seems true, to me anyway, in this case.
Too late for you lot to having a well functioning society.....

what can be done about misinformation by the corperate media?
That is far less and at least somewhat regulated, musk and trump want zero accountability which is nothing but terrible for everyone other than themselves.
All social media should now be removed from protections under section 230 of the US communications decency act. They are clearly publishers not platforms. They should be subject to the same editorial standards and sanctions as any other publisher.

Make social media platforms publishers, like we do with newspapers and TV/radio news...
You can't make 300 million users opinions as publishers, can you ?
@@AtheistfanGuavaNo, but you can make the platform provider responsible for the information published on said platform. And, as with the UK, other regions need to begin to proactively pursue users who promote unlawful content through the courts.
But the starting point is to make the platforms, and Executives, accountable. That will only come through EU/region-wide regulation with regulatory powers extending to the prohibition of platforms which will not comply with regional legislation.

As will always be the case. Why does one set of people get to decide what's disinformation and what's factual? Maybe people should put in a counter argument to disprove the disinformation? That would be WAY more effective
Only if that counter argument is made and given exactly the same promotion as the questioned information.
If Elon Musk names your son as a p*do to 185 million followers, good luck with changing the narrative by arguing that he isn't to your local WhatsApp group
Facts aren't debatable they are backed up by evidence and data. There is no other side or different opinion regarding facts.
