I got my XPedition March of 2023. It’s a good cargo bike, though you likely have to do some work on one as quality of design or manufacturing at this value price point means things aren’t made as well as they should. On mine, I had to widen a hole in one of the cylinders you insert the footboard supports into as one of the pins in the support was so off, grind down the spacers on both brake calipers as they didn’t have the pads sitting completely on the rotors, and replace the washers on the kickstand (one split ring, one flat, which negated the function of the split ring washer) with one wedge-lock washer as the original washers kept loosening and threatening to lose the kickstand. Other defects are visually unappealing (bosses for water bottles and for one of the battery cradles aren’t centered so battery and water bottle are visibly off-kilter) but don’t affect function.
I think the twitchiness of the steering is due to insufficient trail of the fork. It wants to oversteer hard, quickly, when entering a turn, so definitely keep both hands on the bars. It doesn’t matter much where you have the adjustable stem set, thus I think it’s the trail.
The rear rack falls between a short tail and a long tail. It’s a good size for me as I don’t need to carry two kids, but I do a lot of shopping with mine. But keep in mind two child seats will be noticeably tighter than on a typical long tail cargo bike.
For cadence sensor bikes, I prefer ones where the PAS levels correspond to the amount of current/power sent to the motor. Lectric calls it PWR, but others use a similar control scheme (Mate, Ride1Up). It gives more control and presents a lower chance of losing control of the bike than some arbitrary power curve that is used with systems where PAS levels correspond to speed targets. With a high-torque motor, getting over 1000W starting from 0mph can easily throw you off the bike, or at least make you turn much wider than you intended. It’s definitely difficult to maintain control while trying to navigate tight turns at low speed.
I like having throttle power tied to PAS level. Again, it comes to the amount of control it offers you.
    A correction:
The bike ships with speed caps on PAS 1 and 2, but you can change them to respect the overall speed cap of 20 or 28mph. I find them more useful set to the latter, as sometimes 4 or 10A of current are sufficient, even at higher speeds.
Wish list: that the display kept trip information when powered off, a brake-indicating taillight, being able to adjust number of PAS levels as well as power of each level (something Ride1Up displays allow).
Overall it’s a good cargo ebike,, especially when you consider the price. However, check those brake caliper spacers and kickstand washers. I’ve a friend who has one and due to overhang of the pads, the thickness of the non-worn part of the rear pads got so great, they caught on the edge of the rotor and got ejected, losing all braking power at the rear. She checked the fronts and found a similar situation. Dropping the double kickstand while at speed would also create a safety hazard. I don’t know why they combined a flat washer with a split-ring washer, but the combo has zero resistance to loosening with vibration. At least remove the flat washer. Even better, use Loctite on the nut or use a wedge-lock washer like a Nord-lock. I did the latter and it stays nice and snug.

Thanks for the detailed comment! Especially the correction on speed caps for PAS 1 and 2, they must have been changed on my test bike. I tested it by going up to ~25mph in PAS 5, then dropping it down to PAS 1 and I could still hear the motor going. I agree with you it's definitely more useful that way.

@@MicromobilityIndustries Definitely more useful! However, removing those lower caps led to some odd behavior with PAS 1.
If I suddenly stop pedaling when in PAS 1, it will deliver a kick, as if dumping all the energy in its capacitors immediately. It can be avoided by slowly ceasing pedaling.
If I am pedaling as I switch from PAS 1 to 0 (going downhill or coming to a stop on my driveway), it delivers a very strong kick. This behavior can be avoided by ceasing pedaling before I drop from PAS 1 to 0.
Hopefully Lectric has modified their display software to eliminate those two bugs, but the first batch mine came from act this way, corroborated by my friend on the west coast who also got hers in the first batch.

@@chow-chihuang4903 Whoa that is funky! I didn't notice it on my test unit... but I also didn't spend a ton of time riding in level 1 🤷

You can over ride the cadence sensor speed and get more speed than the level you are set at. You can get much more exercise if you use that way. Doing that will extend the range of your battery also.

It gets 150 miles in 1 pedal assist on flat ground carrying nothing and you weigh 100 pounds ,goes down from there I get 30 miles in 5 pedal assist I'm 240 and where I am is some steep hills

What is that annoying noise from the motor? My xpeak has the 750w as well and doesnt have that whining sound..Is that sound on all xpeditions?

I can't comment if they all sound the same, the test bike I was on might have had a problem 🤷🏻 but the XPedition motor is louder than the XPeak. The XPeak was the first one to use the M24 Stealth motor which is more quiet, it's also used on their new XPress model.

This is great and all But companies need to follow Suit with the offroad capabilities of the Tern orox cargo. We can all agree tho that the tern orox could be made much cheaper I the $2000.00 range with a longer rack like the rad wagon 4. Also a bike like this that has 100 miles range should be capable of throttle only like the anokii A8 and similar Walkee long range bikes. I believe it only makes sense to sell folding 100 watt solar pannels with a efficient mppt charger included to keep charged while camping. Thiers over 1000 videos of people charging with pannels and mppt controller. If you haven't checked out the capabilites of the Tern Orox take the time to watch the videos off its offroad capabilities range and massive weight and storage capacities. I believe all ebike channels need to start speaking about this as it wouldn't take long to manifest the ultimate offroad all terrain adventure cargo bike for around $2000 - $3000 Every company needs to start making what the Tern Orax is capable of but better and cheaper! Also fat tires for beach sand is a must! Lets go!!!! 😊

They definitely had some quality issues in their early years, but they've come a long ways since then. Check out our review of the trike here: th-cam.com/video/E4EajbYSdV0/w-d-xo.html
