The first part of this was during the bottom of the 3rd inning......and Harry was already completely bombed.

I remember tho i wasnt a Cubs fan i would still would watch Cubs home games just to listen to Harry and get a damn good laugh ! He was one of a kind ! As a Braves life long fan his son Skip who announced Braves games could be funny sometimes but i was always hoping he would get drunk to see if he could be as funny as his dad ! lol

My first job after I got out of the Marines was hauling steel in and out of Chicago... spent many hours stuck in traffic jams and road construction backups listening to Harry. Was never a Cub fan but did appreciate the day games to help pass the time.

Sadly, nobody can announce like Caray did because it's too risky now. If you get too relaxed and have a personality, pretty soon you'll say something that starts a controversy and gets you canceled.
So all we have left today are stiff boring suits. It's what people have unwittingly demanded.

Dorinda Thurman Thom is a total butthurt man. He was promised Harry's position but when Carey didn't want to retire Thom was bannished to Ohio. The real toughest man alive is Steve Stone. The stories of being the professional between the Harry and Hawk Harrilson yrs? Harsh work environment!

    • @KeithE4

@@christopherhitt1103 -- Thom was not "banished to Ohio." He left the Cubs for the Diamondbacks. He spent over a decade in Arizona before leaving to work with his dad in Cincinnati.
Unfortunately, he put his foot in his mouth with an anti-gay slur a few months ago and now his career is probably over.

@iron maiden Son I turned 14 in 1980 and I know everything about the 80's ! I mentioned those songs because Number of the Beast is the only album I ever liked from them ! Unlike you pinheads I wasn't enthralled with the NBHMI ! The only bands I liked from it was Saxon and even tho you people omit it that Invasion included Def Leppard ! Oh for the record I saw AC/DC w/Bon Scott when I was 12 and Ozzy w/Randy Rhoads so go sing your tune else where !

@iron maiden Hmm 63 concerts i went to in the 1980's , saw live a band in Paradise City Florida playing before 290'000 called Guns n Roses ! 3 straight years i went to the Texas Jam and saw headlining bands and young up and coming bands like Metallica and they were all playing before 300,000 + each year and Maiden wasnt one of them ! Ozzy was there , DIO was there , Van Halen was in 2 , AC/DC was in 1 and many more !

Until recently, I had no idea Harry sat in on radio for the whole nine innings if the TV side didn't have the game. Didn't grow up in Chicagoland, and of course back then those broadcasts weren't available outside the range of the flagship or an affiliate. Great radio. Thom could still be in Chicago if WGN hadn't basically forced him out.
