Yeah sure, oh ya know, once we fix 50+% of the team we will be a force! PLEASE - This defense was tragic - whatever happened to the "we spend more time tackling than any other team..." and "Rugby style tacking" is all we teach... No one knows how to tackle and most everyone is out of position on every play. I'll be convinced Ryan Day is legit when he puts a complete team on the field. Yes, the offense is potent (and a good thing too) but the rest of the squad (including special teams - except for the placekicker) is as under-disciplined, under-strengthed, and under-coached as any John Cooper put on the field.

I was there - maybe the best college football game I have ever seen live. The 88’ OSU-Michigan game (34-31) was epic with our comeback and the Kolesar clutch catch at end. I saw undefeated UCLA lose to Miami in the Orange Bowl in 98 by a score of 49-45. But this Rose Bowl had so much drama and great catches. Each team had multiple end zone grabs that were ballet moves on the high wire.

I always put my TV on mute and listen to these guys. They rarely, if ever, say a negative word about the opponent. Those times we lose to the Michigan Weasels(I live in Michigan), he compliments them. I have so much respect for them.

Just wanna say, there were two holds and three blocks in the back on the kickoff TD. Refs call phantom calls or calls way back up the field - then don't call egregious penalties that matter.
Utah fans and people keep saying Utah had a lot of secondary out but as I keep watching these plays by Ohio state, Utah’s secondary played well, they had good coverage most of the time. Ohio states wide receivers and stroud were just unbelievable. They’ve been doing that stuff all year not just to Utah.

What was BS was that the tv announcers NEVER said anything about Stroud passing for more yards than anyone in Rose Bowl history. I don't even remember them saying anything about his 6 TD passes being a record either. I know they talked about JSN having the most receiving yards in a bowl game, but that was it.
Even a marginal improvement on defense for these young buckeyes spells a lot of trouble for the entire big ten. The offense will be better with better Oline play and basically not skip a beat. If the defense improves, even just by 15-20%, this will be a team that’s very tough to beat.
Jackson Smith and jigba got the Rose Bowl MVP but I think you could have made a case for CJ Stroud and what a Rose Bowl game this lunch one of the best college football games I've ever seen in one of the greatest performances I've ever seen from a quarterback or a wide receiver probably even ever.
As soon as Rising got knocked out of the game and Utah's corners got hurt also, it was pretty much over. Our lack of depth in the defensive backfield really showed. The Utes actually played their runningbacks at the corner positions for the whole 4th quarter. It's kinda surprising that the score was as close as it was considering. The Utes just couldn't stop the bleeding in the last 10 minutes. It was one for the ages though.
And the Buckeyes had 18 scholarship players out of the game, which is approximately 30% of the team and a tight end playing linebacker. This team was the youngest Ohio State team since 1990 I had read.

Considering the offensive records made during this game by Ohio State, but the "defensive hilights" being a few meh plays, that tells you everything you need to know about the 2021 Ohio State team. Worse is the physically noticeable difference between players on the field and the fact the Buckeye defense still struggled...terrible coaching on that side of the ball, and not something any Buckeye fan is used to. What a strange team that was.

They set bowl records for yardage, passing yards, completions, receiving yards, touchdown passes, and still had to rely upon a last second field goal to win. You would think that Ohio State's defense was nothing but 1-star athletes. If they had an even halfway decent defense, the past three years, they'd have won it all and be talking about a dynasty.
