Captain Matt, your worms look healthier than any others I've seen on TH-cam. They are the BEST employees! Mind you, your grandson clearly loves and respects you. He's a great sidekick.

Are these euros?
I recently found your channel and am binge watching. I am amazed at how fast your business grew and how you have adapted your procedures to meet your business needs. Thank you for sharing all of your information. I just have a 7 1/2 gallon tote as I start out to nourish my small raised garden. I love how you are mentoring your grandson Jude and that he is helping you. Fantastic!
I think everyone here can feel how kind and generous you are sharing us your knowledge and advices, greetings from France!
Greetings! I appreciate that.
Thanks for the encouragement, Captain Matt! I'm an engineer by trade and after working being a desk for 14 years, I've found worm farming quite refreshing. The hardest part for me is leaving them alone! I've learned a lot from your videos and often times watch with my children. Maybe they can get your autograph some day! Thank you for the kid friendly content.
You’re welcome! Family involvement is the way!
Thank God for you, Captain Matt and your helper (I'm sorry but I missed his name). You've taught me so much in just this one video. I'm eager to learn more. Please keep sharing. It is wonderful to hear you mention God, always a blessing to meet fellow Christians. Thank you. Kk from Tx.
Your videos are always a joy to watch, Captian Matt. Cheers from Ottawa, Canada🍁
You have a way of encouraging me to really consider this as a side hustle, thanks
Great things going on in those massive bins 👍🏻
I truly appreciate you your knowledge and wonderful willingness to help us in the worm journey…! Blessings!
Thank you Captain Matt!! Allways looking forward your new videos! Will soon star a big bin. Not sure if I'll go with an elevated bin or not. Either way, worms will be there!
really excited to see this method of worm composting progress, keep trying new things and document them so we all can benefit. i am going to say that you have the best worm composting videos on TH-cam, keep up the good work!
great vid Cap Matt. thanks
Hi Captain Mat, Vanessa here from South Africa. Thank you for all videos . They are incredibly helpful. My question is, once you start adding to the grow out bins and they get really full I don't see that you fluff, airrate or turn the soil in the bottom. Does the soill not stagnate and become smelly? Especially since no way to drain any liquid off 1 ton bags.
I appreciate your honest & simple approach to worm farming. I grew up as a child with my grandfather farming worms. He had a cinderblock building with concrete raised beds throughout. He would make me come in after school and count exactly 100 worms in a box and then would sell to local small stores. I hated that job as a kid but I think after watching your videos I may start this myself. THANK YOU for what you post. And you have a lovely family too!
The end of this was so motivating!! Thank you Capt. Matt! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thank you for sheer wisdom!
Appreciate your welcomed information and knowledge.
Glad it was helpful, Brian!
Thanks for this video. Since, i saw that short with bins on the ground last week i was super curious about your new bins.
Hey Captain Matt, what's the coldest your garage gets in the winter and the warmest its gotten in the summer? I'd love to utilize my garage, however it seems like it just gets too dang hot or cold. I live near Memphis TN.
Also, I like this GIANT worm bin idea better than a CFT because I want to “go big” with compost production as well as breeding eventually, and building this giant bin is way more simple than building my own CFT. So thank you for all the helpful information Captain Matt!
Great video, thanks for taking the time to share the knowledge. Have you noticed BT negatively affecting the castings or worms?
Great job cap!
That is a great setup. So cool.
I just found your channel!! I’m binge watching!! Where can I get BTI? Also what kind of huge bins are you using? Thank you very much love your channel!!
Hey Deb.... we get BTI from Amazon
Mosquito Bits (BTI) amzn.to/419DnNm
Mosquito Dunks (BTI) amzn.to/3Znl6uv
Huge bins are DIY
Captain Matt! The Master Breeder of Worms! Ranked #1! Well done! Excellent knowledge! Love your videos too. You are so strong! Man of God! In Lord Jesus in name Amen!
Thanks, Rod! We’d love to see you over in the WormPeople.com forum if you’re not there already community.wormpeople.com/ There’s tons of information and experienced Worm People over there who support each other on their journeys.
Captain Matt,
Is this concept meant to replace the 1 ton bags, from last winter?
I had the exact same thought. Is this in addition to the one ton bags, or in place of them?
Seems like Jude has grown up 3 years in the last few months
Do you think that adding biochar or yeast to the food scraps or the soil helps the worms ?
We need to get back to nature and all the benefits it has to offer.bruces living soil is here to help all i can to encourage people to take advantage of the power of worms.thankyou Captain Matt
Hi Captain Matt. I've just started watching your presentation. Very informative. Id like to know what BTI is and how you make it?
Job well done!
I am a big fan of BTI also, however, I would think that along with killing the larvae for the flies, it might also hurt the natural biome developing in the worm castings. Do you have any knowledge on this?
Hi Capt. Matt, another wonderful video! Thank you for explaining why & how you’re doing this 4x8 bin system. I have a question; I realise what’s its for but what all this BTI stuff, is it a product you make or something you purchase?
It’s a natural larvacide that only affects a few insects - see link in the video description
I love watching Captain Matt worms are the new alternative to synthetic fertilizer
Great to hear, Bruce. Agreed!
Great video, I've just found your channel. I'm going to check out some of your other videos!
Welcome aboard!
Please , can you show and explain your drainage system in garage !!!!
Captain mat is the WORM GOAT
My kids had to explain that this is a compliment 😊
Hello, I have had a small worm bin for a couple years now for my personal garden. My question is how much does it matter to have fresh vs old castings for the garden? Thank you!!
Long live the captain!
how cold does it get in your garage in the winter? I'm in buffalo NY so I imagine pretty similar weather but my garage is not insulated or heated but well protected from the wind and elements. would worms survive in a cft out there? average low is around 19F in winter here.
You are spreading compost on your beds. Do you make your own compost? Could you use ground-up cardboard instead? Would you allow more time for the worms to eat it rather than compost?
❤how do you make the bti and how you use it
I buy it - see link in description… also do a bit of googling - it’s been in use for many years.
Love your videos and how you educate us in such a practical way. I just wanted to ask, how did you build the bulk bins, and is is lined with plastic? (at the bottom as well as the sides?) And what do you suggest to do if you have your worm bin outside to stop the worms from escaping at night?
I think we forgot to line the bin from this video - but other bins are lined with plastic just on the sides. Outside, I'd still keep a lid and a light inside if possible.
what is the White element in the pot thank you for the video Mr Mat 😀
Captain matt, what are hou using for bedding.
Thanks for this bulk bin video. Would like to know how many worms were added at the initial start to these bins. Thanks again.
Probably around 25k
Hi Captain Matt, I have been following you journey and you have very smart ideas. I would like to make a comment for you to think off to make the bins easer to harvest the worm castings. Have the bin end side to be removable so you can walk into the bin not climbing in. Cheers Mate from Australia (AUS)
Hey Gary… that’s an innovative idea!
Hi Matt! I am trying to catch up on all the content you’ve put out so I have lots of questions!
What is the dry “worm chow” mix made of and what’s the purpose of it if you’re giving them blended veggies and coffee grounds?
Do you ever get bedding materials from donors in the community, and if so, where? I don’t have enough property to use my own leaves/etc. as bedding.
Last question has already been asked on this comment section: do you need to heat your garage in order to give this giant worm bin a proper temperature environment? My garage has no heating or insulation right now and it’s getting to be winter time quickly here in Idaho.
Great video I have some questions. Do you freeze your vegetable scraps first? Are you concerned that the bin would heat up too much when adding everything? What is your bedding mix?
Hey Matthew! I freeze root vegetables first. Adding 5 gallons of browns when I feed and pre-blending food for rapid consumption keeps the bin from overheating
You mentioned a food grinder. Can you tell me what that is? Thank you Craig
hiya, curious how you lined the sides of the bin with plastic? many thanks!
Worms are very healthy and getting big
Just curious how many worms you start the bin out with in this wedge system and do you add any as you go or just let them multiply on there own???
I wish I knew about how to sell mine. Mine are like 4-7 inches long.
Hey Cpt. Matt... on the subject of coffee grounds, if you live around any starbucks, theyll give you their used grounds for free and they normally have more than you can ever need
Great tip!
Enjoy your videos! Curious as to why you switched from your CFT bins to horizontal migration bins? Just curious.
Getting old… and in search of ease ☺️ I also enjoy doing things different each year - to test the underlying principles
Well good luck to you!
What is BTI for us newbies?
Awesome wedge method in absolutely huge worm bins!! So cool to see how you do it!! 🪱🪱🪱
Do you feed any sand or any grit to help digestive of the worms?
Hey Richard, I add stone dust to my worm chow.
Is the mosquitoe bit the same as the mosquitoe dunk. Do you use both at the same time?
Essentially the same, Larry.
What do you estamate the number of worm are in each bin?
Do you put the castings in an air tight bag or a bag that breathes? Could you make a worm bed from wood. Do you line it with weed cloth?
Does the bti help with mites also?
Likely not… only affects certain fly species larvae
Where do you get bti? Do you have to be zoned agricultural to purchase?
I use Mosquito Dunks that I get on Amazon. amzn.to/3Znl6uv
What or were do I get bti
Hey Captain Matt. Where do you get the BTI you use in your worm bins?
Hey Larry… we put links in the video description.
How many lbs/gallons out of the 958 gallons of castings do you harvest at the end of the 32 weeks?
Cappy-
Re: BTI what is the amount per gallon of water you have found effective?
If you mentioned it in this or another video, I missed it. Thnx.
I use 1 BTI “dunk” in a bucket for a couple weeks for daily watering until it disintegrates.
shalom from Norway. I've got some red wriglers😊
What's bti, and what's in the worm chow? God bless❤
Mosquito Bits - bti - bacillius thuringiensis
Hello Captain!
In Romania there is, among those who deal with Vermiculture or Vermicomposting, the statement that they actually grow a hybrid created by the State University of California called "Red Wiggler of California" (the scientists from the University of California would have brought improvements to the common red wiggler )
They also call this so-called hybrid also with Eisenia Fetida. Is it true?
What do you know about this?
With admiration and respect, Stefan!
That’s new information to me - please share if you find out more over at community.wormpeople.com
How do you make the compost for your worms
Hey Michael - leaf and woodchip compost - aged in a pile outside.
can you share the plains for this bin
Well put it on the idea list - thanks for the feedback, JC!
How many pounds of worms do you use to start your wedge system?
Hey Matthew! Approx 30lbs each side
Dear Captain
Can anyone help you get a nice lapel mic…?
Thanks for the recommendation, Randal! Upgraded recently (thanks to my kids) and should have better sound quality going forward!
How’s that Garbage Can flow through you made coming along?
Sir why you are uding coffee
Is this used coffee or unused?
Used coffee grounds.
👍
What is the ratio of BTI to water?
I use 1 BTI “dunk” in a bucket for a couple weeks for daily watering until it disintegrates.
جيد
Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (BTI)
Wouldn’t the amount of castings collected from one of these bulk bins amount to over 5 one-ton bags? I don’t know if my math is correct, but that seems pretty effective!
Yes! Exactly! 👍
Can you add to much coffee to your worm bin?
Hey Terri, Yes… even though coffee is brown, it is considered a “green” and can heat up - so use care and moderation. Worms ❤️ coffee though!
