As a kid, I lived in a suburb called Madras in Lusaka Zambia. It was a predominantly Indian suburb and was named after an Indian city of the same name. That city is now called Chennai but my old suburb is still Madras.

Nope, Chennai is South India, Bangladesh is East India. But what they do share in common is the Bay of Bengal, A Water Body (Sea) that brings Tropical Rainfall every Winter.
Kerala , karantaka, meghalaya and other northeast states all looks more wet than Chennai. Even highest rainfall receiving place is in india.
