Black Sabbath - Anno Domini - Forbidden Remix Discussion and Review

- Brent and Brian are once again joined by fellow Black Sabbath aficionado, Travis, for a discussion of the newly released box set covering the band's years originally on the IRS record label. These albums featured Tony Martin on vocals, along with Neil Murray on bass (for Tyr and Forbidden), drummer Cozy Powell (on Headless Cross, Tyr, and Forbidden) as well as Geezer Butler and Bobby Rondinelli (on Cross Purposes).
For most fans of this era of Sabbath, the star of the box set is the remix of Forbidden, which consumes the vast majority of the discussion in this episode. The CD version of the box set also includes three bonus tracks, which had originally been released on import versions of Headless Cross, Cross Purposes, and Forbidden.

Geeky yet very enjoyable conversation 🤘
Haha! Yes, absolutely geeky!
Greetings from Scotland! Fantastic in-depth discussion. Love the remix! Subscribed!
Thank you! Yes, the remix is one of the best remixes I've ever heard. Far better than I anticipated, and worth the wait! Thanks for the sub!
Can't Get Close Enough best tune imo love that tune ....
IM getting it for my birthday end of October . TM is my fave era!!
That's too long of a wait! Then again, we've been waiting years for this anyway, so what's another couple months? 😄
Wouldn't have picked the alt vocal take at the beginning of Can't Get Close Enough or removed the first couple of solo's in Forbidden track 🤷 Other than those small quibbles, great remix 🔥
Hope Martin leaks those Dehumanizer demos failing an official release!!
Those Dehumanizer demos are like the holy grail of the Tony Martin years!
The lyrics/original inner sleeves are in the book of the LP Box Set!
Oh, indeed! Perhaps acquiring the vinyl version is in order!
I'm pretty sure all the heavy rhythm guitar tracks were re-recorded by Iommi and not reamped. Some of the solos too. I don't think he can admit doing it though, for legal reasons. Don't get me wrong, I love the whole thing. Sound awesome.
I'm not experienced enough with reamping to give any authoritative view on it, so as far as I know you may have a point. I've done it only a time or two, but only with bass, and never with a distorted guitar track. My intuition tells me it's Tony did simply reamp the signals, because rerecording all those guitars would be a pretty tall order. But as you say, the end result sounds awesome and that's what counts.
The guitars seemed to me to be re-recorded too in some cases, but I could be wrong, but it made it way better. It just sounds so much heavier on "Forbidden". I love both versions of the albumbut the new one is just so awesome. It's like a new whole take on the album. A lot of Tony Martin's alternate vocals were used too. The bass and drums are so much punchier. I like it now much more though.
@@billjannusch I'm especially impressed with Tony's vocals - some of the harmonies that weren't used in the original mix. Really hoping for a Born Again remix now.
