      you can use the USB, it can be anything on the network, my NAS was just an easy to access exaple. With your routers USB you will need to allow access to router from external connections in the security of the router

    I am using tp-link archer ax6000. But I can’t see any ports open. ISP claims that all ports are open but I can’t see them in my any (iOS or windows device)
    However I can find that my WAN IP is 10.xx.xx.xx and device ip is 117.xx.xx.xx so they are always in different range.
    Can you suggest something on this? I don’t wish to pay for static ip 🥴

    Can I ask?
    Would this be basically the same way that I would access my server BMC, from outside network? It does look to be, but I just wanted to check in case their were other options that needed doing also.
    Also on my (1+ year old) TP-Link router there is no TP-Link DDNS option; the only options are: NO-IP and Dyndns. Am I right in thinking that Dyndns basically the same thing, but just a paid version?
    And lastly! If I just use normal DHCP, do I just go though the steps again (generate certificate and export config file) if and when the IP changes?
    Thank you in advance for any guidance.

    • @TechManPat
      @TechManPat  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your first two questions you are correct, newer modems have it own dns built in via the brand but most older ones used the 3rd party service in regard to number 3 I’m not sure I think you need the same certificate for any device that connects then they get an ip after using said cert to log on

    Yes...it works... perfectly!
    Chrome OS and TPlink vr400 are compatible. My problem was;
    The set up was too easy and your instructions were perfect.
    But it wasn't working initially because...
    I forgot to click the app OpenVPN and to turn ON.🥴
    Oh by the way...the OPENVPN is not a VPN. Is a protocol between our devices and router. , In other words, no need to log in to the subscribed VPN. Also, this protocol between our devices and router contains an excellent fire wall under the name of Cyber Shield.
    My english is poor but am I right? Or my explanation is wrong?

      Have you registered a TP-Link cloud?.
      No need to set dynamic DNS unless you have purchasef a Dynamic DNS. You also can obtain it for free .
      Keep the default numbers (subnet).
      The most difficult I had last night!
      Installing a Proton VPN in my router.

      Good question , you need to set the settings to game their own sub net and block connections to local networks but that depends on what you want to achieve

      @@TechManPat I've setup OpenVPN on my router & can connect to it remotely & access my home network, all that's working fine. I would also like all the traffic from my home network (through the router) to be protected by vpn. Any advice in this regard would be greatly appreciated, I've been scouring the Internet for information; to no avail.

      @@vidneypopples EDIT: I just realized you might be talking about protecting your identity from others on the same home network. That seems morally questionable, whether you just want to hide your porn use or actively pursue an affair online, or if you are living with your parents and hiding something from them... Without judging, I'd say you need to set up a separate network entirely, and if you can't, you probably shouldn't try!

    Great walktrough. But if i want, for example, connect my lg tv to the vpn, i think this is not possible with this method. I personally prefer cloud vpn. Faster and i can connect all my non windows and android devices easily to vpn.

    2 problems #1 Modem and Router are not the same thing
    #2 In order for the Router to have external IP address requiring for VPN to be accessible from Internet and not only on local network, Modem has to be in the BRIDGE MODE. Took me all day to figure this out. No one is even mentioning it.
    Once you do it, your external IP may also change. Mine changed instantly. I couldn't change it for years.

      If you have a true modem, it will always be in bridge mode. You probably have a modem/router combo. True modems have no choice but to bridge the connection to a router.

      I have the AX1800 router and NordVPN. Followed YT how tos and it wasn't working right, contacted Nord and they sent me to a step by step for how to setup Nord on a Tp-Link router on their website, voila, worked. The VPN client is NordVPN, the server OpenVPN.
      Fair warning though, I'm watching Pats video because I'm troubleshooting some issues though. My internet without VPN is over 200mbps but with all VPN parts enabled it drops to 10mbps. I suspect it's user error, but regardless if it's throttling due to the VPN on the router, I can still play large online games on console without issue, other devices function fine, etc with VPN on.
      So it's doable, but may throttle your speed a bit.
